According to Marx there were only two class catagories: ruling class and working class. The middle class is a recent invention attempting to join a segment of the working class the constant counter-revolution of the rich.

You are only a capitalist if you live off your capital without depleting it.
If someone is extracting a surplus of value from you then you are working class. Even if you are currently unemployed, you are still working class.

Part of our work as anarchists is to smack some sense into the "middle class." Someone has remind them that a house and a car are not the same as freedom. If we can bring them into any struggle for justice they will quickly see how powerless they are and either become escapists or join the revolution.

The people I have seen make the best attempt to explain anarchist visions of the economy is the Institute for Anarchist Studies.
