Support the lowercase collective squat, fight evictions!

Hey folks,

A few weeks ago we posted a call-out asking for support in lieu of our pending eviction. After receiving many questions concerning logistics and the space itself, we have decided to issue the lowercase call-out part II to clear up any confusion.

As many of you now know, the state is planning to evict the lowercase collective squat in approximately three weeks. The foreclosure and eviction of our home is one of many in this neighborhood and many other neighborhoods. Our resistance is a response to not only the attack on our home, but also to the attack on all people facing eviction as well as the system from which evictions are born.

During the weeks that precede our eviction, we are asking for the help of our friends and the greater radical community. Mutual aid, folks! These are the things we need right now:

-wood + nails
-bricks
-paints
-headlamps
-extension cords
-electricians
-batteries
-sheets (fabric)
-canned food
-storage bins
-ladders
-ornaments (bulb kind)
-muralists & artists
-self-defense classes
-ropes
-netting
-pulleys
-generators
-large amounts of water
-welders
-medic training
-lightbulbs
-mothballs
-trash bags
-medical supplies & straight-edge (alcohol-free) tinctures
-lawyer contacts
-candles & rewindable flash lights
-propane tanks
-propane stoves
-indoor plants, dirt & seeds
-money
-several 10 gallon buckets
-dental floss

Aside from these material needs, we need a physical presence in this
space. This will be crucial as the eviction date gets closer. We want to
be clear: this is our home and we have policies in place that allow us to
maintain our collective as a safe space. They are as follows:

Oppressive behavior: Any language or action perceived to be racist,
sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise oppressive will not be
tolerated.

Consent: Our consent policy states that if you have ever been accused of
assault, you are not welcome to stay here. Other than that, anything other
than an explicit "yes" means no. "I'm not sure" means no. Silence means
no. This applies not only to sex, but also touching, entering someone's
room, etc.

Drugs: Don't bring them into the space. We don't want to give the cops a
reason to come in.

Vouching: someone who lives at lowercase or someone who is a close friend
of ours must be able to vouch for you if you intend to stay here. This is
not to exclude folks that want to help out, but we need to know we can
trust the people we allow into our house.

Our house is comprised of mostly people of color, and if that makes you
uncomfortable you can fuck off.

Alright then! So now you want to stop by- what next? Give us a call, email
us, send us a message on facebook/myspace/twitter, whatever. But contact
us first! We are sitting by our computers and our phones waiting to hear
from you.

i'm guessing under the uppercase collective.

I sent you folks an email

I sent you folks an email right after the first one of these went up, and I didn't hear back. I was the one from Indiana. I'll send another. People in Chicago can vouch for me.

Evict them bitches. You

Evict them bitches. You fucking bums need to get a job and pay your own way. Its ok to live off of someone else?

I stayed at that place, and

I stayed at that place, and it was fucking horrible and depressing. Why would anyone want to defend it?

Mice, bugs, no food, no gas, bad people, air of defeat and passive aggressive shit.

I hope the building gets demolished by an IDF bulldozer.

this is the second time I've seen an article about lowercase on anarchistnews.
why do they think they are so important or are the only anarchists in the city?
you really think appealing to random internet trolls would be effective?
sucks they are being evicted but that shit happens all the time, so you got away without paying rent for a long time, great
but why do I never see anything about the chicago anti-eviction campaign on this website?
or about any of the other thriving (A) projects here?

Because they post their

Because they post their stories to the site, maybe?

thriving anarchist projects in Chicago? HAHAHAHAHHA

I have been to lower case,

I have been to lower case, but only for a night. And the people there were amazing! And the space was awesome, and welcoming. It is a space that has supported so many people, and now we need to fucking support them!

Rock on!

Been through there twice and

Been through there twice and the people and the space is awesome. Sure like all spaces there are problems but it's better than not having a space and the problems they had weren't all that bad in consideration to the awesomeness they had.

Much luck, love and solidarity to the Lowercase. Continue resisting and never give up the space!

"it's better than not having

"it's better than not having a space"

not really. i'd rather get a job and not find cockroaches in my food (it's happened). i'd love to see responsible people living communally, but i'm not holding my breath.

Interesting shopping list.

Interesting shopping list. It reminds me of when the A-team turns a car into a tank and blasts the hell out of the bad guys.

>> Mutual aid, folks! anyone

>> Mutual aid, folks!

anyone that has stayed there - or even knows and trusts the individuals there - ought to pony up what they can to help. that would seem mutualistic.

but to ask for a shopping list of shit from folks you don't even know... seems more like charity to me. just because someone claims to be an anarchist doesn't make them my comrade. *potential* comrades, yes. but that's a huge leap, from potential to actual.

... not to mention that based on your shopping list, you guys obviously don't have it together enough to barricade your own damn doors. I mean, i understand asking for some help and supplies, but you just admitted that you don't anticipate being able to scrounge up your own damn plywood, screws and tools. Best of luck but I'm not sure you guys are physically prepared for this, and I think the cops are gonna kick your asses. i won't gloat, but....

what's the harm in asking,

what's the harm in asking, grumpy?

if you don't want to donate anything, then don't!
i'm not!
