How To Catch A Fire

“White youth must choose sides now. They must either fight on the side of the oppressed, or be on the side of the oppressor.” -Bernardine Dohrn (member of the Weathermen)

The People of the World are starving. The masters of racist empire (the politicians and corporate ceo's of amerika) are murdering, maiming, and raping the People of Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, Palestine. Those are just a few of the Peoples that are Truly Suffering under the racist, imperialist, and colonialist forces of the amerikan regime. These People are hungry. They're hungry for Justice! They're hungry for Equality! They're hungry for Freedom! They're screaming for these things. We have to stop sitting around, We have to stop begging our "leaders" to "fix" these "problems", We have to Wake Up.

Time To Stop Sleeping On Black Liberation

In mainstream "white" society and even in some so called Revolutionary circles (or more accurately "white" Revolutionary circles) the Civil Rights Era (read Black Liberation Movements era) is considered a bygone time. A bygone time of "rare" "radicalism" in the Black Community. This assumption is completely wrong, first off it was not rare, in fact Black Revolutionary movements or organizations had been evolving for decades. The notion that it was a radically "tinged" movement is also false, from the very start there were many individuals who realized the truth about the Liberation of Black People, it could/can only be achieved through nothing short of a Revolution (I believe Malcolm X came upon this realization very early on and understood its implications), in the later years of the movement when organizations such as the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, which arose out of Oakland,CA in 1966 with the help of founding members Huey P. Newton (Minister of Defense) and Bobby Seale (Party Chairman), they (the later organizations such as the BPP) sought this as their ultimate goal (Social Revolution). Although later on because of inner conflicts there was a sort of schism in the BPP, the split revolved around how exactly Socialist Revolution/Black Liberation would be achieved (members such as Huey Newton and Bobby Seale favoring non-violent Direct Action and members such as Eldridge Cleaver seeing that the time to engage in Armed Struggle had arrived). Most ex-Panthers started taking refuge in the Black Liberation Army which was dedicated to much more aggressive tactics (personally I favor the views of both organizations, I believe in both the necessity of non-violent Direct Action and Armed Struggle or violent Direct Action if that's what you want to call it), this along with the counter-Revolutionary actions of Cointelpro agents, the assassination of Fred Hampton which was carried out by the Chicago police department (pig department is a more accurate description), along with many other cold blooded murders of Panther members carried out by the pigs, rising legal costs, and inner conflict led to the collapse of the BPP. Another misconception is that the Revolutionary movements of the 60's/70's were only Black movements, this is wrong, there were many radical white student organizations such as the Students for a Democratic Society, and the infamous Weather Underground Organization (or the Weathermen), there were also Chicano, Women, and Native American organizations which were part of a much wider Global Revolutionary Movement. The Black/Brown Liberation movement was dealt a huge blow and it has been almost unconscious for many years but was never defeated. Some key figures that "white" anarchists should study are Fred Hampton (R.I.P Comrade), Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton (R.I.P Huey), Kuwasi Balagoon (Anarchist member of the BLA and a Brave Comrade, R.I.P), Mumia Abu Jamal (Free Mumia!!!!), Ali Khalid Abdullah (also an Anarchist), Lorenzo Komboa Ervin (Anarchist and former member of the BPP), Assata Shakur (Hands Off Assata!!), George Jackson (A true Soldier of the Black Revolution, R.I.P), and Frantz Fanon (read his book Wretched Of The Earth). Those are just a handful of courageous Black Revolutionaries. Now, in the interest of getting to the main topic of which this essay revolves around I'm not going to lay out the entire history of Black/Chicano/First Nations/Women's/white Revolutionary currents in amerika. The main topic I'm talking about is white supremacy, or the white power structure. White domination is very real in this world that we live in, in reality the forces of kapitalism (the amerikan empire/government, and amerikan corporations) revolve around and rely on white domination. Think about it, if the white working People broke down the racial divisions that separate them from the Black/Chicano Community and joined with the Black/Chicano working class in actual Solidarity it would be very difficult for the state to conduct fascist attacks on Black and Chicano People not only in amerika but in the greater part of the world. What has become very clear to me is that the Catalyst for Social Revolution in amerika would be a renewed Black Revolutionary movement and Solidarity between Black/white working People and Solidarity between "white"Anarchists/Socialists and Black/Brown Liberation movements and organizations. Revolutionaries such as Anarchists (which are mostly white middle class People) and other Socialists, as well as Progressives (who aren't necessarily for Revolution) must realize this. As a ("white") anarchist myself I feel the need to address the fact that the majority of Anarchists (the majority being "white") in amerika continue to brush white supremacy off to the side. Now many might argue that anarchists are adamantly anti-racist and I believe this to be true but lets be honest you don't see pigs going into "white" suburban nieghborhood's and murdering/harassing/torturing innocent People as they are so fond of doing in the ghettos and barrios. It's time to take the anti-racist ideals of the anarchist movement and evolve it into an explicitly militant anti-white supremacist stance. The destruction of the white power structure should be one of the main objectives of anarchists in amerika. One of the many ways "white" anarchists can achieve this is by expressing Solidarity with already existing African Liberation organizations such as the International Peoples Democratic Uhuru Movement as well as future movements regardless of whether or not they are explicitly anarchist. "White" anarchists should make it a priority to study Black Revolutionary literature instead of just "white" anarchist literature so they can better understand the struggles of Black Liberation movements, they should also study the literature of Chicano/Latino/Native American/Asian Revolutionary movements. It is ridiculous to think that you can lump everyone's economic/social struggles into "common struggles of the People" or "common economic problems". The existence of white domination has serious effects on Black and Brown People in amerika and across the world. These racial struggles that white People don't have to worry about create oppressions directed at the Black and Brown working communities that make their struggles a hell of a lot worse than what white working People experience, such as, pig brutality, racist imprisonment, racist economic oppression, racist employers and attacks on affirmative action (last hired, first fired), and racist drug operations conducted by local pig departments or the C.I.A. That's just a few of the struggles that poor Black/Brown communities experience and whites don't have to live through. "White" anarchists must build new and stronger anti-fascist movements, We must push anti-white supremacy and Solidarity with Black communities/Black Liberation movements to the forefront of our struggle against kapitalism with the realization that Solidarity between white People and Black People is a must if we are to inspire a Revolutionary movement in amerika. Anti-white domination, anti-colonialism, and anti-fascism must join with anti-corporate, earth/animal liberation, and anti- imperialism as the main struggles of the anarchist movement. In reality the white power structure is one of the main components of kapitalism and must be dealt with head on with Direct Action if we are serious about Social Revolution. Anarchists should organize Black/white Solidarity Direct Action events in both white working communities and Black working communities. We have to realize that the amerikan government as well as corporations are institutions of white supremacy and kapitalism itself relies on white supremacy. Direct Action must be used against white supremacy! I'm not just talking about fist fighting with neo-nazi skinheads and disrupting racist Klan/christian events either, although those organizations should be dealt with by any means necessary. Anarchists and other Socialists have to realize that the masters of the white power structure are the politicians, corporate ceo's and other kapitalists. Neo-nazi organizations and other similiar movements advocate the white power structure but they don't run the show. In effect "white" anarchists must publicly/verbally/physically display and organize true Solidarity with the Black community and Black Liberation movements, we must expose the white power structure to the masses and the fact that kapitalism relies on it and feeds on it. The severe lack of Black/Brown anarchists is primarily because of the reluctance displayed by a majority of "white" anarchists to express Solidarity with the racial struggles of the Black community. The anarchist movement must no longer ignore racial divisions and the racial struggles of Black People, if we are truly dedicated to the Liberation of all Peoples we have to support organizations like the Uhuru movement and other future movements, we must respect African Peoples right to Self-Determination, we must help break down racial divisions among working class People, we must use and rely on the power of Direct Action and propaganda by the deed as well as visual propaganda, we must support the Black community, we must embrace militant protest/activities. I believe being a Militant Activist means realizing both the necessity of non-violent Direct Action and Armed Struggle. Non-violent Direct Action protest (which I believe includes property destruction) and grassroots community organizing/support is most effective for inspiring and building a mass movement, but once that mass movement gets strong enough and organized enough the white power structure/state/corporations will feel threatened by it and they will try to destroy it through covert operations and violent means (by violent I mean switching their rubber bullets for the real bullets!), this is where Armed Struggle will be necessary. Then again I can't predict the future, but I do know that if anarchists are serious about Revolution they will make Direct Action, community organizing, and Solidarity with Black Liberation, against the white power structure and colonialism as important as anti-corporate, anti-imperialist, earth liberation, and other anarchist goals!

All Power To The People!!!!

THere are no black anarchist

THere are no black anarchist because lets face it most of us are white dudes from the suburbs who are uncomfortable around blacks. It's just the reality of growing up in a divided culture. Be honest Mr "white" how man black anarchist friends do you have? Whatever the history, anarchy has become a movement for and about the dissatisfaction of white middle class men/boys.

Huh? Why does your life

Huh? Why does your life define mine? Just about everytime someone draws some broad conclusion about the composition of anarchists, I feel as if I just don't fit in. I feel more affinity with the broke anarchists that conflict with these preconceptions than those pointing the finger.

Rebels don't need to enlighten themselves around a finger-pointer's preconceptions on culture. Unity comes with shared experiences not preconceptions. If we are trying to motivate people beyond the activities of last men, maybe we can learn about the lives of the individuals we interact with? Books on dead revolutionaries are stories appealing to the politicized. Most people feel disillusioned with politics.

When I look about my life, I am affected by politics from forms of media and those bureaucratic organizations that touch my life. Political idealism rarely interacts with its reality. This proposal for attempting to integrate the white politicized with the black politicized should expose its framing. Its not about "anarchists" in these articles...its about "middle class" kids trying to get along at school. At least that's about as close as I can relate to it without becoming cynical of its proposals.

When anti-authoritarians talk about politics, we talk about it not as policy makers, but rather as rebels. We attempt to criticize politics, not individual political decisions because we don't shape policy, we are shaped by the system that demands policy. Many anti-authoritarian solutions are based on acting directly rather than politically because we often seek to respond to oppression outside systems of control. When we attempt to manipulate politics into functioning in beneficial ways it has historically increased the specialization, size and power of bureaucratic organizations. This seems to be true of all those that play the game of politics in present and much of historical capitalism.

This sounds like another talking head that's too broke to afford a real radio show to manipulate the guilty into dittoheading their political program. If it is framed as a scene or university article attempting to achieve unity in a specific arena where people already share a norm that seeks education, I can see potential. Integrating educated rebels in a strategy of rebellion together sounds easier than uniting races.

This isn't a revolution to achieve this kind of unity. It is finding unity in educated subcultures. Should some semblance of unity be achieved among the enlightened cultures, how does that play into affecting control? Finding unity might be a personal goal to some, but it won't be based on creating broad social norms among generic racial categories. Rather it will be the ethical and/or self-interested decisions created by small groups of people that have reason to overcome division. If the white educated want to intervene in uneducated black culture, does the black uneducated actually share this knowledge of black rebellion the white educated rebel does? From my experience, they know as much about it as the white uneducated knows about the weathermen and other 60s icons...virtually nothing other than idealized worship of what they represent.

In greek times these things were called Hero cults and shrines were built to honor what a hero represents to an integrated society. This is another piece worshipping the heroism of the 60s and idealizing its modes of behavior.

My cynicism of my comments

My cynicism of my comments is old and tired. Its been overdone.

Why do I even try to expose

Why do I even try to expose how tired and old my comments are? Who cares about my cynicism of my cynicism? It doesn't help anyone.

Amen. hpwombat's posts on

Amen.

hpwombat's posts on race should be a drinking game.

Take a drink when he mentions class.

Take a drink when he mentions identity politics.

Take a drink when he mentions APOC.

Take a drink when he defends online assholery as serious political and theoretical dialog.

Take a drink when he mentions discussions of race as stabs at white guilt.

Take a drink when he avoids race as everyone being the same.

I'm sure he's got an RSS for any anarchist site (except APOC's) mentioning race so he can show up and write the same crap he does every time. Next.

APOC wire is a leftist wire.

APOC wire is a leftist wire. Why should I care what they say when they haven't said anything that I haven't defeated in discussion?

Stupid leftist, criticism is for the awesome and you are not.

Oh yeah...I forgot to

Oh yeah...I forgot to add...Necrotic State....is that you? I read your crap. Of course you know that if you are shadowing my comments.

Christ on a pogo stick...

Christ on a pogo stick... how idiotic can one be? No, more people than "Necrotic State" think you're a babbling proto-racist. Try again.

definitely a troll. I'm

definitely a troll. I'm done with you.

"Why should I care what they

"Why should I care what they say when they haven't said anything that I haven't defeated in discussion?"

Read: I comment on cross-posted articles and therefore I win. Whoa. The intellectual threshold you have there is stunning.

"criticism is for the awesome and you are not"

You assume what you do is criticism. Blurting your poorly informed opinion and calling it criticism is like calling a Big Mac, fries and a shake a three-course meal. Of course that flies fine on infoshop, but not in the rest of the world.

Oh, add to the drinking game: take a sip (not a full drink... you don't want to be out too quickly) every time leftist is used in place of an insult, a racial epithet, etc.

You keep throwing craps

You keep throwing craps troll. If you want to beat me, you need to take on my arguments.

When you have an argument,

When you have an argument, instead of juvenile name-calling and gross simplifications of the world, call me. The reality is you don't have an argument, unless muddled mega-paragraphs and sophism suddenly became intellectual debate. The only real sport is satire, thus the drinking game.

Don't think I haven't read enough of your rants, boy, to realize engaging your "arguments" is just an invitation for you to throw out blanket insults and generalizations in hopes of making yourself feel like you're not "beaten" -- a claim you really can't make because you're not that smart. You can't punctuate or spell, and you're tagged after a woodland creature... trust me that such invokes fear in no one. ;-)

nice try but i think you are

nice try but i think you are confusing me with you, i am not the one throwing out the generalizations, i am talking from my experience which is the only thing i can talk from, unlike some who assume they speak for the world...and your a moron, you haven't read my posts for shit because if you did you'd realize i don't feel the world exists soley in our heads, only that our perception will always be what we percieve it through. if i thought the world was nothing but a product of my own mind than i woudln't be talking about how devestatingly real and total capitalism is as it stand and why would anything need to be destroyed when i could think it a way? i merely speak from experience, as i have said, and i don't righteously pretend i can speak for others, beyond how i see it i can only assume, you seem to lack this realization. nice try but i am afraid the judges cannot award you any theory points.

yeah, i will be the first to admit i am cynical and abrasive, i am a very bitter person as are most people living in social situations they abhor. it may escape you too but, guess what, i try to convert my cyncism into humor and i just happen to be somewhat of an "insult comic" akin to say bill hicks minus the mysoginy. at any rate i am not putting anyone through any criticism in any form i haven't already put myself through...shock of the century i suppose, i believe criticism can also be turned inward when one feels it is appropriate. i engage ideas for critique for this reason: challenge ideals, see if anyone can prove me wrong, prove it to me so that i may have to alter the way i am looking at things. i also am not going to concede when i still feel no one has done anything to prove me wrong, not only are you awarded no theory points by the judges but i am afraid we are going to have to revoke previous theory points, if any.

Still craps. Your

Still craps. Your meta-conversation is stale. As I said, you need to take on my arguments, which you haven't. You are a sniping coward.

Oooooh, coward. Very nice,

Oooooh, coward. Very nice, womby. Consider me scared. ;-)

Like I said, when you get an argument (or at least figure out a way to coherently state it, and do so in a way that doesn't involve folksy personal stories of homeless people), give me a buzz. The only sport with you is satire. Too easy otherwise.

I guess I do consider you a

I guess I do consider you a coward. Weren't you talking about how you help at the homeless shelter? Was that bullshit? Isn't that a "folksy" story? If not, then how is my story folksy and yours not? You are trying too hard to get on top of my mountain. If you keep slipping sniper, I'll find you.

uh no... I don't help at a

uh no... I don't help at a homeless shelter. I think you're losing track of your replies, among other things.

Your mountain = hilarious.

I don't understand a word of

I don't understand a word of that hpwomba. I guess the point I'm making (and your reenforcing) is that there is a major disconnect between the anarchy community and the people they claim to be defending. That's a huge problem. How many of you guys volunteer at homeless shelters? I'm guessing zero. But I'm sure that's less cool then storming your suburban police station.

You clearly don't understand

You clearly don't understand me. Thanks for clarifying. Why would you judge helping at homeless shelters...a volunteer service versus an attack on a suburban police station? I don't own a police station, I don't live in the suburbs. Why do you care where I come from? What is valuable to you? Is it how I'm helping more than Christians and the left? How I'm expressing anarchy by serving as a model citizen like the guys that get raises? I find your understanding of anarchy to be confusing, so I can understand why you can't grasp anything I'm saying.

Can you clarify your position? I see you snipe and troll. Maybe trying to rile people up? Maybe you want to say something? I'll go on record as saying that a homeless shelter is part of the problem. Do I do it to motivate you away from doing something you enjoy or just simply to expose a systematic flaw? I'd say the latter more than the former. I'd rather not starve nor see others starve...should I be afraid to speak about how a service is messed up?

Christians offer services. This doesn't make them not capitalist. Those that receive them are often forced to listen to religious bullshit as part of the solution to their pauper status. The homeless also often have to act in a manner befitting the assistance they might receive from just about any social service. No more booze for you miss or mister and be in before dark. Institutions are problems even when they want to be solutions.

Maybe you've got an "anarchist" homeless shelter that you'd like to talk about? Though I doubt it would offer anything that would save your argument, it would be interesting if such attempts are occurring. I wouldn't mind hearing news on an anarchist homeless shelter and how they are trying to offer their services.

homeless shelters are indeed

homeless shelters are indeed part of the problem. i have both delivered a meal to one and visited one when i was in middle school, as well as at one point having a coworker who was living in one. when i delivered food there at the job i used to have (it was a thanksgiving charity sort of thing) i looked on in fury as i noticed the staff forcing the inmates (which is what people in a homeless shelter are treated like) being forced to say grace, to say fucking grace, and one of my bosses even started harranging them. the attitude of the volunteers, as well as my boss, smacked of exactly this: "how dare you ungrateful wretchs not show apprecation for what we wonderful conciencous middle class people are doing for you, you've got some nerve! now bow your fucking head and be humble social reject, bow your fucking head!" also i have been told by the woman i used to work with there was a curfew and everything, shelters are mildly humanized prisons, that small degree of humanization does not change that its social control.

as opposed to this i have actually had several homeless friends who i would hang out with and get high and shoot the shit, perhaps toss a couple bucks or smokes or whatever their way...you know, we'd treat each other like fucking human beings rather than me treating the homeless person like a child gets treated at school.
also of note: shelters give the society the perfect excuse to break up homeless encampments eg: "why don't you come in out of the cold and do everything we tell you to do...slave." yeah, you know, the state is sooooooooo good at helping people out after it has kicked them when they are down. whats a charity i could get in board? perhaps arm the homeless!

-lord rambler

However you define anarchy

However you define anarchy there's one fundamental truth inherent to the movement and that's defending the oppressed - something you feel is the job of organized religion or the liberals. Also totally warped is your perception of the poor as you claim: "homeless also often have to act in a manner befitting the assistance..No more booze for you miss or mister". Believe it or not, I know a lot of homeless people who are sober, hardworking, kind and (get this) - human. Yes they're human. Some are even kids.

So I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you but you're not an Anarchist. Perhaps you should try nihilism - there's less reading and thinking involved with that movement and you don't have to care about anyone but yourself. Something you're well qualified at.

While you're at it, take Lord Rambler with you. His idea of helping the oppressed is smoking crack with them. The two of you make a great pair

Warped perception of the

Warped perception of the poor? I am poor. This has been your failing from the beginning. You want me to be a kid that lives in the suburbs and I'm not either. I hang out with homeless people when I wander and we drink together. Sorry to break it to you buddy, but some homeless people aren't hardworking, kind and (get this) moral. They tell me they hate the shelter and that it is bullshit, that is why they don't sleep there and prefer the tracks. Oh no! Homeless people are people! Funny how my use of "people" sounds less moral than your use of "human"..isn't it?

You speak of "fundamental truths". Where are these fundamental truths and why should they rule me? You brow beat, threaten and denounce. Some would call this righteousness. Why must I elevate myself above the poor to help them? What is defending the oppressed and how is that even radical? Why should I accept your moral truths as my absolute conviction?

I'm sorry I'm not a Leninist.

Homeless people don't sleep

Homeless people don't sleep on the tacks anymore hpwombat - that's only in the movies. As for your self proclaimed destitution, I would say that poverty is a relative term. The fact that you can afford a computer with internet access puts you in a slightly different category then people living on the streets. But lets stop the bickering I'm not perfect, you're not perfect lets call it even. All I ask hpwombat is that you dig a little deeper into a movement you obviously feel strongly about.

Yes, some homeless people do

Yes, some homeless people do sleep around the train tracks in my city. I make no claim that all or most do, nor do I think I know how I could offer such a statistic. I travel by walking on the tracks from time to time.

maybe the bickering could

maybe the bickering could stop if people stopped making stupid assumptions. i don't take too kindly to people who portray me as a crack addict and i don't think wombat takes too kindly to being called a fucking proto racist! both of these statements would happen to be false. at any rate now you want to extend the olive branch after a bunch of shit talking? i am game for grabbing on to extended olive branches sometimes but not when i smell the falsity of it...and this smells to me like you are simply trying to prove you are bigger, another tactic in righteousness, now if you walk your talk then prove this assumption of mine (which i admit is what it is) wrong! when you start engaging peoples ideas and cease pulling shit out of your ass, than we can have a more mature discussion of matters but until then this is what it is: a game of shit talking.

i also happen to know homeless people do live on the tracks. not all of em' some live in parks, plenty hang out around campus here, some squat buildings, and, yeah, some are packed in humanized prisons such as shelters and others are packed away in actual prisons. i am aware that none of these is the case for all homeless people but, you know, here's the thing: generalized social categories are made up of individual people who desire, you cannot peg everyone who happens to be from X, Y or Z category into the same neat little package, especially because such neat little packages themselves are part of how social control works on our minds.

-lord rambler

oh really now, we want to be

oh really now, we want to be immature? fair enough, i can play the game of assumptions too: your ideal of helping the oppressed is going door to door telling them how much more you know about their own lives than they do. oh righteous white university vanguard how dare we not defer to you! you talk as if you can organize the oppressed...first of all apart from anyone who is wholy identified with this society we are all fucking oppressed in some way, unlike moralists such as yourself i don't play the game of whose oppression is most important, anarchism is against all of it and people like you who like to classify struggle (your real class struggle) might as well be fucking leninists. second of all: defending the oppressed? what the fuck have you done about that? what can you do but play your part when you notice your moment or stay the fuck out of the way of struggle allowing it free movement? political organizing? great, all bow before the new messiah and make way for the next totalitarian mass social system! unfrotunately for you most people are alienated from activism and most activists are middle class (not that middle class people cannot revolt against society, anyone can, but i am talking about not even being able to get past notions that would appeal to the middle class values, such as fucking citizenship and contractual rights...and don't try to tell me being a "world citizen" or the princples of an anarchist federation are really any different!), most people, when they actually do anything approaching revolt, do it in everyday life when they fuck with their job, the cops, cheat the system, whatever, but you don't understand this because it isn't activism! politicians are the ones that are not anarchists, i am talking more than the politicians who run in elections, you are not an anarchist! in the next phase of your grand social movement i suppose we can look forward to seeing you among the hands that holds the guns which force people back to work! there, have i made enough assumptions wanker? and sorry about your luck but i am not going anywhere, last time i checked i didn't have to defer to what you wanted anymore than you do to me!

what i said was that i actually have had homeless friends, yeah, sometimes i got fucked up with them...and way to take on arguments buddy ol' pal since niether me or wombat ever said anything about what homeless people do, other than that they are homeless (fuck generalizations that obscure the individuals that make them up!) i merely pointed out how i have socialized in the past with a few homeless individuals i personally knew, most of whom have decided to hop the train out of here (the one i knew best was searching for his estranged son who is my age) or are in prison (and BTW: you know who has contributed funds to the defense of this person? why me of course but i never do anything so...)...BTW crack? now whose the one who has a stereotypical view of the homeless oh mighty university vanguard (again, weeeeeeeee, look at me i can make assumptions too)? the point is my idea of socializing with the homeless is not evanglising them, it is actually relating to them as a person who i might like or who i might not like just as any other person, hearing about their experiences and relating to them as i would any other friend rather than as a social category...i know that is hard to understand for those of us among us who are poltiicians and who are blind to anything outside of social categories though, who care more for abstractions than flesh and blood, so i guess i am talking to a wall. later wall, tell pink floyd i said hi!

than this comment was from a different anon i take it? or are you not only a moralist but also one who likes to preach hypocritical moralism, as in prescribing a moral dictate for others you don't keep to yourself. if it does so happen that we are dealing with the same anon here it is pretty hilarious, i might add, that this comment i quoted appears right below you telling wombat that you don't work at a shelter, while we are on the subject of keeping track of comments.

You think just because cops

You think just because cops don't come into white neighborhoods and beat us, we are at fault. And then that makes us racists for not realizing that. Of course we realize that, but then again let's look at what's going on in each of the neighborhoods. When was the last time there was a gang shooting in a "white" neighborhood. I say white in quotes because you are making it seem like that all whites live in the suburbs and all blacks live in the ghetto which is a gross racist and generalization, which makes you more of a racist then any of us "white" anarchists. I fully understand that cops take it way to far when they arrest people in the "black" neighborhood, but that gives you no right to come blame us. None whatsoever. So how bout you get a reality check, realize that anarchy sees no colour, and start practicing what you preach instead of being a hypocrite.

Wow. Let the reverse racist

Wow. Let the reverse racist cries begin. The writer told you to read and stand in solidarity -- not blame you. Are you related to wombat? ;)

Nationalists are boring

Nationalists are boring guilt lovers. You fail to comprehend my argument and you dribble on. I suspect a stupid troll wants to be fed. Here's a bone dog.

identity politics is such a

identity politics is such a waste of time: all it is would be a competition between different types of oppression to see which one everyone else in the world has to get behind as priority one (where it would be more anarchist to, i dunno, fight starting from your own experience and organically link with all sorts of other shit along the way), and which group that suffered what gets to be the righteous vanguard that the rest of just need to blindly abide by. its of course to be expected from politics in any form. race is certainly one among many valid experiences of oppression to attack this society through...it is not however the only one or the most important (a most important form of oppression? yet another mythical beast! i won't even give this label to domestication, which is what all this including capitalism has taken place in the 10,000 some odd year context as it has unfolded! oppression is oppression regardless of what form it is taking). and just so you know just cause someone has been identified by social convention as white doesn't mean they are content with society as it is and feel comfortable within it, blanket stereotypes are stupid no matter who is being stereotyped and no matter how understandable it seems on the surface.

This kind of blathering, replete with disgustingly obsequious hero-worship, is unfortunately typical of young white male pseudo-anarchists. The celebration of "Armed Struggle" completely ignores the logic of clandestine life, which necessitates increasingly criminal (as in anti-social, not merely illegal) activities to sustain "the Underground." Less and less of the acts of the Armed Struggle group are geared toward something vaguely termed "revolution" as more and more are geared toward expropriating funds for rent, food, ammunition and other supplies.

For a better look at what actual self-described anarchists (as opposed to authoritarian nationalists) did when forced into illegalism, try studying the actions of the Spanish anarchists in the 1920s. While not necessarily exemplary in terms of revolution, they were at least focused on the needs of the anarchist infrastructure in Spain, which was where the bulk of the funds went. Underground newspapers and pamphlets, educational centers, clandestine health care, etc. were all sustained by the expropriations and "revolutionary taxes" collected by armed anarchists. Similarly, the French illegalists sustained anarchist projects throughout France and Belgium with the proceeds of their actions.

The mystique of "niggers with guns" is too tied up with the confusion and guilt of white liberals and bourgeois (counter)morality to be useful for anarchists these days. Fight your own struggle instead of getting off vicariously through the actions of others. Be a white ally if you must, but don't peddle your bullshit here and expect not to get called on it. Fucking liberal.

if your responding to me this is a very empty and false interpretation of what i said, or are you responding to the article? at any rate, i see no way "forward" but an assualt on the totality of the present order (which means exactly what the words imply). and no, i don't immulate the wheathermen, they were stupid vanguardist moralists (for example they moralized fucking for the sake of fucking, big deal, just a different type of moralization from monogamay...NEXT PLEASE!).

Clearly my post was a response to the article. Take a chill pill dude.

yeah, sorry about that,

yeah, sorry about that, thats what i was trying to figure out...theres been a lot of stupid assumptions made about either myself or what my views are recently by people who don't know how to read and i did make the little quip about the idea of "arming the homeless" as a snipe at charity and how pathetic it is to boast of your acheivements cause you have done that (to that other anon, for that matter, guess what? i too have had moments in my life where i have been involved in charity, i reiterate that my arguments have basis in my experience, rather than a book on dialectics or something, though i have also read many such books). i am a little high strung right now to cause a whole bunch of shit is fucking up in my life.

actually there are and have

actually there are and have been a small number of black anarchists like Lorenzo Komboa Ervin who wrote "Anarchism and the Black Revolution" which is an excellent piece. I think the writer of this article is trying to address the fact that there is such a lack of black anarchists and the anarchist movement as a whole hasn't really expressed any real Solidarity with black liberation organizations.

You really think Ervin's

You really think Ervin's piece was excellent? How so? His call for black leadership? His embrace of the most stultified form of anarchism (syndicalism)? His veering toward national liberationism? Yeah, great.

Huh... well I respect your

Huh... well I respect your opinion and I'll rethink my thoughts on his (Ervin's) piece. Although I was talking about the 2nd Edition, I haven't gotten around to reading the 1st.

I think the problem with

I think the problem with holier than thou politics like what is espoused here is that they oversimplify arguments and avoid the positive because it doesn't serve particular needs.

Ervin's second edition of the book (posted on illvox.org) was written nearly 20 years ago. His "embrace of the most stultified form of anarchism" is, actually, his personal statement about being a syndicalist (as well as a libertarian socialist); part of his work is helpful in explaining to audiences who might not otherwise be exposed definitions to other forms of anarchism, how anarchism differs from other ideas, etc. Fault him for being a syndicalist if you wish, but this reminds me a lot of weak liberal dogma -- find some personal flaw, minor or major, and use it to dismiss an entire argument which has positives and negatives. Anarchist thinking really has to evolve to be more independent/critically minded than this -- to understand the individual, and separate them from the argument, which can be debated on its merits.

Similarly, I think anarchist analysis needs to be more specific in its critique. The closest Ervin gets in the book to "veer[ing] toward national liberationism" is his remark in the African Intercommunalism section, where he notes an alliance of ideas (my words, not his) between national liberation fighter/movements in terms of fighting state power. However, Ervin much more so in the same section and elsewhere denounces these movements for selling out and being problematic on other fronts. There are two alliance references and (I counted) ten against national liberation movements, so it's not like there's parity here. In fact, Ervin himself predicted in his book that his arguments against white privilege would be dismissed by whites as "Marxist national liberation nonsense."

"Call for black leadership" is an overstatement of intricate ideas Ervin brings up. In the book, Ervin speaks out loudly against Black leadership, which he feels has betrayed Black people and communities in favor of power. Several comments imply the need for Black leadership (organizing of armed forces to protect the Black community from police, for example), but what he calls for most explicitly is a change in the Black community to a more radical post-Civil Rights orientation.

Like most writings, the book is not intended as a Bible with all the answers. Throwing out misleading comments to discredit what has been an important book for years seems a bit lame.

authoritarian nationalist,

authoritarian nationalist, anarchist, or just plain feed up american. . found it on the internet somewhere. can an anarchist believe in such plans?
this plan would restore the united states to a constitutional republic, by the people of the united states, who by power of the law of the land are entitled to changed their form of government if they so choose.

The united states government today is corrupt. the laws have been passed by a kangaroo court to unbalance the systems of checks and balances that were put in place as the backbone of a constitutional Republic. It is the law of the land, and not the law of a man that determines the coarse of our nation. The laws of the land were established to ensure the liberty of each individual, as enshrined in The Bill of Rights. These rights, as it is so duly noted, are not rights granted by another man. These rights are natural rights. Natural rights that each man, in a free society is born with.

The source of those rights is Almighty God. Today, there are some that may not believe that it is God, and that is ok. We must still maintain our republic, in order for future generations of men to know Love, Beauty, and Liberty, and consider these wonderful works, and their source. The founders of the Republic of the United States, being men, had in their possession the foresight to create a republican form of government in order to produce a nation free of tyranny for their children. However, since they were men, they were misguided in their idea of a freeman, and a mistake that lingers with us in these united states was the idea of slavery. Today, the concept of slavery has been applied deliberately to most Americans. Each american that holds debt in the fiat paper money system has enslaved future generations of Americans, and is impeding the creative spirit of those young people who have no voice in the current era of greed and corruption. In order to re-establish our Republican form of government, I propose the following actions, that are to be taken by those governed under the laws of these united states.

Since our republican form of government is a government of law, then it is in our best interest to restore the judicial branch of our government as we see fit. Like any system, there are operating parameters that must be free to operate correctly in order to achieve the desired results. The results that we are getting from the system are not the results that the majority of americans are happy with. What must happen then, is that Justice is restored to the land quickly, efficiently, and with little or no violence. This can happen.

The most fearful sight in the eyes of men who sit and judge, are the men who have been judged unrighteously. It is these men, these americans that i call on today to set things straight.

The actions will require that Americans be the best they can be.
What must take place by action of the people is the removal of the current Supreme court justices, and new Judges sworn in to uphold and protect the constitution of the United States.

a highly synchronized flash mob will appear, remove the justices from office, New justices will be sworn in to office. Their duty at that moment will be to dismiss the sallied judges from their post, and establish a position of constitutional establishment and hearings to bring criminals in the executive and legislative branches of government to justice immediately. At the same time, the dept. of the treasury will be relieved of their duties in relationship to the federal reserve and the IRS, and the repeal of all non-constitutional acts regarding the principles of fiat money will be enacted. I believe that the system that was established by the founding fathers of these united states, if allowed to work properly, and with support of the governed, will restore liberty, and prosperity to the people of America.

flash mobs at every state capital, as an extreme show of force. synchronized.
all military hospitals open to the public for immediate treatment of civilians.
all miliary organizations to be on high alert for outside interference.
this is a civilian matter, and full support by the military would be appropriate.
flashmobs around UN, to show that the US is a sovereign country.
flashmobs will show that all politically motivated gain must be for the good of the american people.
The new supreme court, with the aid of the rest of the dept. of justice, will investigate ALL wars, both future and present to determine their true nature.
All Secret Service protection of former presidents will be terminated.
All Treasury dept. police forces will stand down, and officers may be given leniency, for testimony.

Of all avenues of action, i believe that this action on the part of and by the american people, to strike at the root of the nation’s problems, is the most just, and gives support to our form of government. It upholds the traditions of liberty and freedom. It removes the wires and threads of corruption that have stopped the wheels of liberty from turning, and gives credence to the system of balanced government that lead to the formation of the greatest ideas of liberty ever to bestow mankind.

If then, current and elected officials such as the president still want the job after the restoration of the laws of that land, and they are elected by the people justly, and legally, then so be it. It is not one man that governs the united states, it is the law of the land, and that law and the system in place to assure that the laws are just, must be allowed flourish. Americans will once again be free to determine their own destiny if they so choose.

This plan would require the assistance of all people of color in our land who call themselves americans. Our black brothers, our white brothers, our indian brothers, our chinese brothers, our irish brothers our American brothers are asked at this time, are you willing to break the yoke from the backs of our children and the future generations of children? Because today, every child born in America is born under the slave-atude of debt, and poverty. To restore the laws and procedures of the land by force of unity and solidarity can be our only goal.

My fellow americans, Let freedom ring.

this is a plan. This plan would require the formation of a panel of citizens to manage, organize and plan these actions. The panel would choose new Supreme court Justices based on constitutional guidlines, and a new constitutional ammendment would be put in place to better assure a future government guided soley by the constitution, and the people who support it. The changes necessary in the United States after the reestablishment of Justice are great. The problems are severe. The solutions are difficult. The task is overwhelmingly complex. It is now, or never. It will be the greatness of America will shine, or it will be the boot on our necks. We must first allow the system to work properly, and after maintain its workings. There will be many years of additional challenges to our form of government, but it will be that we the people have spoken loudly, and clearly, and unitedly, with one voice, that the time has come to end the occupation of our lands by corrupt political, and financial entities who care not of our freedoms, our liberties, or our children. The history of our great nation is filled with coruption and death, but it is also filled with passion, and love, and laughter.
Today, I bid you good luck, and godspeed.

Ok sooooooooo... I'm the

Ok sooooooooo... I'm the asshole who wrote this piece and I apologize if it came off as some sort of 60's hero worship essay, although I still have a great respect for all the people I mentioned, except Bernadine Dohrn after reading that remark she made about the manson murders, I haven't really studied the complete history of the weathermen, nor do I plan on doing so after that quote. I more or less just used that "white youth must choose a side" quote to kick off what I was writing about, the essay itself was more of a rough opinion piece that I sort of just put together on the spot. Of course what I was trying to get at was the fact that the majority of the anarchist movement, at least here in amerika, is made up of mostly white people and how this might have some relation to (in my opinion a very strong relation to) a lack of commitment towards breaking down racial divisions among white working class and Black/Brown working class people. I also apologize if it might have seemed like I was accusing any anarchists of being racists or assuming that any of you are in some way "materially privileged". Racism is a distortion of perception and the existence of the white power structure and unearned white privilege has a profound and negative effect even on white people themselves. Racism in many ways makes white people EXTREMELY prone to being taken advantage of and exploited by fascist organizations (the klan, neo-nazis, ect) and of course the corporatist state itself which is obviously the head of white supremacist society. Western culture itself is mostly just a unison of white supremacy and capitalism. This must be taken seriously by all types of anarchists and instead of just paying lip service to anti-racism we should physically go into white working communities and organize, rally, and inspire racial SOLIDARITY. I truly believe by confronting white domination head on, using Direct Action obviously, we will spark mass revolutionary action and thought among the working people, especially white people.Oh yeah and whoever made the first remark at the very top about how the anarchist movement is just "about the struggles of white middle class men" is obviously a closet authoritarian and racist, you obviously have a severe lack of understanding when it comes to anarchist thought and history and no I am not a "fucking liberal".
Thank you all for your criticism and opinions.

i don't want to "organize

i don't want to "organize around" racism or any other form of oppression specifically, i think there is this equality here, you know, all of this shit sucks equally, we need to get rid of it all. since i feel all these oppressions are nestled all snuggly and warm in the belly of politics, even well meaning ones which, by the way, i do see stuff like this as well meaning, i reject politics, i try my damndest to reject generalizations about any group of people as well for the same reason.

other people are not movements for me to organize (what the fuck could i ever know about the more intimant layers of their lives anyhow?), they are human beings, some of whom want the same thing i do, some of whom think my ideas are shit. what organizing would be in my book would be to link with those individuals who share the visions i espouse and i really don't care what color or background they are from period as long as we are on the same page. it is a matter of ethics (though not morality) to me who my anti-political comerades are though i will point out i am a lot more open minded than this when it comes to simply being friends with people.

Racism in my opinion is a

Racism in my opinion is a blatent form of conforming to a standard that isn't your own. Racism has been around for hundreds of years and obviously is something that is handed down from generation to generation. So basically if you're a racist then you're just conforming to the standards handed down to you from an earlier generation. So not only are you a stupid twat, you can't even think for yourself and need other people to help you define other people instead of using your own experiances.

Have you also

Have you also liberated
yourself from PARAGRAPHS!!

I'm sure it was good reading.
All I got was eyestrain!
