Anarchist film doesn’t exist

from Videos from The Trash Dimension

A video zine about anarchist film not existing. Now that it’s finished, it feels like the Videos From The Trash Dimension manifesto but I promise we weren’t trying to be that corny.

If you made a video with no director and no money, send it to us and we’ll screen it in episode 3 of Videos From The Trash Dimension. TheTrashDimension@protonmail.com

Are we talking the whole distribution process or are we talking about themes. I would certainly like to see more of the latter by having anarchists communicate anarchist archetypes via film.

did you even watch the video or read the zine? that would have answered your question. in any case, here's a tl;dr for you: it addresses themes, storytelling, narrative devices,, d.i.y., focus, framing, limitations, possibilities, security concerns, intended effects on audience, etc.

As far as distribution goes, film as it exists of course has a distribution method that an anarchist wouldn’t do because of the obvious reasons, and the sort of friendlier alternative to that is probably the film festival circuit which I would also say anarchist film would not have in exactly the same way. An alternative to that which is a little similar could be developing on the tradition of infoshop screenings where instead of the usual documentary, anarchist video makers just send videos to infoshops and then the only gate really being kept hinges on the personal taste of the infoshop in question. If that was the beginning and end of anarchist video distribution, that would make sense to me. Oh also, we just put on screenings ourselves and that happens in lots of different locations so there’s that option too, and if anarchist film existed, there would be lots of different screening series
