Aragorn! memorial - 6/25/22 Humanist Hall

aragorn!

We're finally doing the party to say good bye to our friend and inspiration, the ACTUAL unique snowflake, Aragorn!

Saturday, June 25, from 11am to 5pm, at Humanist Hall , 390 27th Street, Oakland, CA, between Telegraph and Broadway.

The earlier part of the day will be food (a potluck! sign up HERE! vegan dishes especially appreciated but not required) and chat-centric, the later part of the day will be listening to people's stories about him--funny, poignant, significant, funny, provocative, FUNNY--and ignoring some of us sobbing/raging away in the corner.

Thanks. Hug an old friend today.

The plan is for people to wear masks inside, and there is a nice outside area that can be maskless.

Thanks for the help in writing this, everyone!

i will be there for sure....but, are misanthropic tendencies allowed at "Humanist Hall"?

....and, i know i live "out in the sticks", and "outdated", but i think june 25th is a saturday???

and obviously we will make the humanist hall work for *us*!

well, as we know, the humanists love to work for everyone

Dogs are way more fascists than time. Proof being that they wake me up at 7 in the morning, barking straight at my tent, just to remind me about society, and its time. When anarchos and anarchopunks quit domesticating dogs due to thsi realization, we'd likely be in a better anarchyland...

Domesticated dogs of comfy White middle-class Errorpeans are hardly hungry in the morning. Authoritarian domestication makes them into intolerant brutish cowards (fascists) who only listen to their masters.

See, the thing is, dogs have to rely on a human, otherwise they would be hunted down like dogs.
On the other hand, bastard dogs are the most beautiful...
And African Wild dogs don't need no human.

Masks and proof of vaccination required? Thanks!

I get it's kinda creepy thing to do from an anarcho and anti-tech perspective , but since the US might likely still have Covid entry restrictions for foreign travellers in two months, that'd be about the only way to "attend" for many people.

Of course this would mean a pressure on the live attendees to mask up and/or not talk... So just a suggestion to consider!

I like this idea. Live-streaming it might be another option.

No cameras please. Except or course for the final group photo with road flares and a banner. Thank you.

tech nightmare.

one appreciates that people who want to be there (and who everyone wants to be there) won't be able to come, but location is real, and not to be diminished, despite the efforts of our tech overlords.

the organizers will do what they think is best, but surely pepole don't want to make it harder for them?

If you submit headshots of all attendees to Google, Facebook, or Zoom for pre-analysis you can securely adjust the algorithm to exclude, modify, and/or blur real faces from the livestream. The shots can be securely transferred with p2p encryption so it's all good.

I met Aragorn twice: Once when he came to Chicago for a tour promoting Anarchy magazine, and once at an anarchist conference in Indianapolis - both times in the late 90s, I believe. Prior to that, we had exchanged a few comments on news.infoshop.org. I might come to this memorial, but I won't be wearing a mask. I see nothing in this post or on the Humanist Hall website to suggest that vaccination status would even be an issue, but if it is, that will be just one more rule for me to flout.

" I might come to this memorial, but I won't be wearing a mask."

Don't be a dick.

It's a memorial where the people hosting it are asking a simple thing:

"The plan is for people to wear masks inside, and there is a nice outside area that can be maskless. "

It's not about you, dick.

...unless the hosts at the memorial choose to make it about me. I will not challenge their personal beliefs about masks - only their power to impose those beliefs on others. If they don't bother me while I'm there, I'll be just as quiet and respectful as anyone else.

What about you imposing your beliefs on everyone there by not wearing a mask? How is this "respectful?" Turning a memorial into an opportunity for confrontation...nice.

Its not ACTUALLY Humanist is it, its just a Hall, a vacant non-ideological space, right?!

All buildings are humanist! Just the whole notion of permanence in dwelling spaces is wrought with anthropocentric intentions directed towards comfort and safety.

What happened? Did Aragorn! die?

I for one love the bittersweet irony of this. Looking forward to it <3
