Peter Lamborn Wilson, RIP

Jim Fleming, publisher of Autonomedia, writes:

Peter Lamborn Wilson died in his apartment in Saugerties, NY last night, reportedly from a heart attack. Lewanne Jones, Fred Barney Taylor and I spent Saturday afternoon with him, filming what will have been a final interview with him for Konrad Becker in Vienna. Peter seemed no worse than usual, but of course he has been in bad health for a number of years. I will provide more details as soon as they become available to me.

One time Peter and I visited Robert The on the Lower East Side, and we got lost INSIDE the building as we were leaving--it had blind staircases, open shared bathrooms, etc..!

Ugh. Fucking shame. He was a truly unique mind and voice. Totally irreplaceable. Wish I had the chance to meet him. Rest In Power brother.

So sad to hear about this. Sharing below one of my favorite pieces of his (produced under the name Hakim Bey).

yes

No, its about loving boys celebitely, like the opposite of being an Incel, but instead voluntarily, like a daughter, with gentle delicate emotionally passionate gesturing, hugging, soft talking, not the disciplinarian militaryesque masculine barking orders, gruff unemotional conversation, brutal force to win etc.etc.

Didn’t take you long did it? The man wrote hundreds of thousands of pages in his life, yet you highlight this as somehow emblematic. I’m not even necessarily problematizing it but more problematizing you for obsessing over his minor controversies and throwing them in the faces of anyone who would be irked by them, as they have their right to, but it’s disingenuous to pretend like this is a big part of his writing or that other writers or revolutionaries are without fault or controversy. Landsteicher also has “boy love” references in his work. As does John Henry Mackay. Paul Z Simons defended Wilson, and actually offensively from my perspective, defended indiscriminate terrorism, always not clearly defined of course. Bakunin has anti semitic things he wrote. Perhaps everything ever referencing Bakunin should highlight that as if it’s a critically important part of his thought and character? And of course ask these writers ought to be purged from the publishers still distributing them, right?

The internet has afforded us the ability to more easily than ever search through everyone’s writings and permanently catalog their controversies in a way that was unthinkable prior to its ubiquity.

I remember people doing just terrible things in my local scene and six months later people are like “well whatever that was a while ago and i don’t even remember the details.” Imagine if you could just look at their Wikipedia page and see all the details immortalized forever and of course if you remove such things it will be labeled censorship.
As much as it annoyed me at the time, I prefer to live in that world than this one.

Count yourself lucky that not being a public figure you don’t have to permanently face the same kind of scrutiny for every little thing you ever wrote or did. And also, content wise, maybe at least partially recognize that anarchists historically have tried to rattle every cage they could find, real or imagined, to try and see what would result and whether new oppressions or freedoms would be discovered. That spirit of experimentation with different ways of thinking and trying out different positions from the mainstream is something that overall should be celebrated in the anarchist tradition.

Different anon here. Maybe the lesson is for anarchists to stop putting white men on pedestals?
RIP, PLW.

"Maybe the lesson is for anarchists to stop putting white men on pedestals?"

or better yet, how about stop putting ANY MOTHERFUCKING BODY on pedestals?

oogles tend to think: for example, the most common criticism of stirner i have heard is that he's a "dead white man". How bout we add a little eco-extremism to this...and stop putting PEOPLE on pedastals in general? You think jk rowling, candice owens, robin diangelo are the antidote to domination? It's that identity politics reasoning which produces such figures. Not saying I support eco-extremism, but i do like it better than identity politics.

As an aside, to everyone who's mourning Peter's loss, what are his best writings? I read something about spirituality from LBC about his trip to the middle east, i enjoyed reading it. Did Peter Lamborn Wilson actually harm any children? That just seems to be the implication of all this complaining, but there doesn't seem to be any real claims associated with it.

as a boylover i appreciated it. they didn't say it represents everything he ever wrote, just that it was one of their favorites of his writings. that user may well also be a boylover. a mention of dissenting literature on the oppression of child+adult lovers is not an attack on the author, that's your own worldview speaking.

My early inspiration for an amoral rebirth of pure unconditional human relationships. "RIP" is shallow, rather, DIE, Die In Ecstasy !

A great inspiration to me and I loved him so much. A great light has passed.

Chaos never died.

Some relevant guidance that outlives him--from TAZ:

Of all “political systems,” anarchism (despite its flaws, & precisely because it is neither political nor a system) comes closest to our understanding of reality, ontology, the nature of being. As for the deserters...we agree with their critiques, but note that they seem to offer no new powerful alternatives. So for the time being we prefer to concentrate on changing anarchism from within. Here’s our program, comrades:

1. Work on the realization that psychic racism has replaced overt discrimination as one of the most disgusting aspects of our society. Imaginative participation in other cultures, esp. those we live with.

2. Abandon all ideological purity. Embrace “Type-3” anarchism (to use Bob Black’s pro-tem slogan): neither collectivist nor individualist. Cleanse the temple of vain idols, get rid of the Horrible Old Men, the relics & martyrologies.

3. Anti-work or “Zerowork” movement extremely important, including a radical & perhaps violent attack on Education & the serfdom of children.

4. Develop american samizdat network, replace outdated publishing/propaganda tactics. Pornography & popular entertainment as vehicles for radical re-education.

5. In music the hegemony of the 2/4 & 4/4 beat must be overthrown. We need a new music, totally insane but life-affirming, rhythmically subtle yet powerful, & we need it NOW.

5. Anarchism must wean itself away from evangelical materialism & banal 2-dimensional 19th century scientism. “Higher states of consciousness” are not mere SPOOKS invented by evil priests. The orient, the occult, the tribal cultures possess techniques which can be “appropriated” in true anarchist fashion. Without “higher states of consciousness,” anarchism ends & dries itself up into a form of misery, a whining complaint. We need a practical kind of “mystical anarchism,” devoid of all New Age shit-&-shinola, & inexorably heretical & anti-clerical; avid for all new technologies of consciousness & metanoia — a democratization of shamanism, intoxicated & serene.

6. Sexuality is under assault, obviously from the Right, more subtly from the avant-pseud “post-sexuality” movement, & even more subtly by Spectacular Recuperation in media & advertising. Time for a major step forward in SexPol awareness, an explosive reaffirmation of the polymorphic eros — (even & especially in the face of plague & gloom) — a literal glorification of the senses, a doctrine of delight. Abandon all world-hatred & shame.

7. Experiment with new tactics to replace the outdated baggage of Leftism. Emphasize practical, material & personal benefits of radical networking. The times do not appear propitious for violence or militancy, but surely a bit of sabotage & imaginative disruption is never out of place. Plot & conspire, don’t bitch & moan. The Art World in particular deserves a dose of “Poetic Terrorism.”

8. The despatialization of post-Industrial society provides some benefits (e.g. computer networking) but can also manifest as a form of oppression (homelessness, gentrification, architectural depersonalization, the erasure of Nature, etc.) The communes of the sixties tried to circumvent these forces but failed. The question of land refuses to go away. How can we separate the concept of space from the mechanisms of control? The territorial gangsters, the Nation/States, have hogged the entire map. Who can invent for us a cartography of autonomy, who can draw a map that includes our desires?

AnarchISM ultimately implies anarchy — & anarchy is chaos. Chaos is the principle of continual creation...& Chaos never died.

Yes!
" 5. In music the hegemony of the 2/4 & 4/4 beat must be overthrown. We need a new music, totally insane but life-affirming, rhythmically subtle yet powerful, & we need it NOW."
Latto's "Big Energy" was one of Lamborn's favourite releases of 2022.

Yeah, its like when she describes Big Energy as a non-sexist non-materialistic aura of self-awareness and creative sensuality. The fountain of life and exciting possibilities.

That's a very Hakim Beyesque societal aesthetic, which harkens back to medieval times when troubadours and gypsy clans wandered freely across continents influencing cultural values and customs, often with satirical relevance to a region.

What is the definition and meaning of chaos according to Peter Lamborn Wilson?

Peter very graciously gave me permission to reproduce any of his writings with our publication the Invisible College.

His quick mind his sense of the poetic and his commitment to anarchism will be sorely missed.

His translations of Sufi poetry sustained me through dark periods of my creative life.

We hadn't talked in several months and this is sad sad news of his passing.

It was tried already for bringing Aragorn! back, but didn't work. So you gotta accept that the biggest shitheads always live loooong lives, coz anyways that's surely the only one they'll have. Other examples include: Bill Gates, Dr Kissinger, the Rolling Stones, etc.

Oh ookaaay Billy Joel Only the Good Die Young fallacy spreader, thinkin' of JFK,,,

Have you seen pictures of his house (that he rented). He lived in squalor surrounded by books and friends in upstate new york. He did have a small family income which he used to avoid work and instead write anarchist books, make art and poetry. A pretty good choice, from my perspective.

you can see peter's falling down house in this video: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=XB30aABPbtQ

the virtue signallers on twitter wouldn't dream of living anywhere like that, of course.

That Peter was a bibliophile hoarder and in too poor health to tidy up his place is no surprise for anyone who knew him. You're assuming a lot from a corner of his kitchen.

"virtue signalers"
Ah yes those who anonymously point out personal wealth contrasts of personalities within the anarchist milieu are signaling virtue. LOL.

Imagine having a trust fund so large that you could pay for ivy league schooling, travel the world, and live to such an old age without ever having to earn monies. Such anarchy!

bey didn't own a computer. bey didn't own a smartphone. bey didn't own a car. how many of those boxes do you tick, anon?

You have a verynarrow understanding of what wealth is if you think it's measured by smartphones, computers, and cars.

Do you know that a majority of houseless people in the Bay have one, more, or all of these? Would you call them wealthy, 08:11?

the majority of houseless people in the bay have cars?

Reading is hard!

"one, more, or all of these"

## float away cackling ##

Bey was a pseudonym. His surname was Wilson.
Get off his dick. Unless you're a youth and a necrophiliac.

let it be known that anon09.07 prefers legal names to the names individuals create for themselves

Let it be known that IDpol 10:43 doesn't know what a pseudonym is and thinks Peter went by Hakim Bey. LOL

Woketard pseudo-anarchist is wrong - PLW lived a quite mean, low, plain economic existence at the end of his life. I knew him personally.

At least his brain wasn’t so ravaged by lyme that he thought words like “woketard” were offensive on anews, rite?

I too knew Peter personally. You’d be surprised how far a trust can be stretched.

Anarchists have included nobility among the ranks. If a fucking wayward prince wrote The TAZ it would still be lit and legit text that it is.

Fucking resentful retards.

Spoken like a true trust fund anarchist (or worse yet, a poorcuck trust fund anarchist worshiper).

By the way, nobody said anything about him having a trust having any impact on the value or legitimacy of his writing, Ziggy. Simmer down.

Is irrelevant period. The world could use a few more rich anarchists on the level of a Bakunin or Kropotkin.

Obviously the generation of wealth is the problem. If we are taking about anarchists who come into wealth that is not nearly as problematic. I can even entertain a become wealthy anarchists within certain limits.

"I'm a utopian anarchist." --Elon Musk

Maybe the real wealth is the radical centrist egregores we cucked for along the way?

I'd invite financial wealth into my realm if I felt that it did not compromise my authentic anarch self ;)

Do you believe if would compromise your authentic anarch self if your financial planner / portfolio manager invested your trust into Monsanto, Raytheon, Lockheed, etc so that you could live off of the interest for a lifetime? It's a bear market out there and anarchs gotta eat, rite?

Yes it would compromise my authentic anarch self because my unique aesthetic sensitivities are offended by the crass materialistic desires of the investment class, who in their libidinally detoured grand social-engineering activities have made profit, economic rationalism and barbaric destruction of pristine habitats their business!

It is irrelevant, because material wealth pales into insignificance compared to the wealth of experience, deep human relationships, an emotional aesthetic which focuses on the psychic wellbeing of one's companions regardless of their age or gender. This IS NOT another Prince Andrewesque financial contract with a sex worker,( how crass to even compare the aesthetic to acts of pompous arrogance!) This IS the realization of lifestyle becoming a work of art and poetry beyond the moral realm.

PS, Just to emphasize this irrelevance, red lentils and cheap vegetables make up a significant portion of my diet, and I'm on basic wage, though I am opposed to work, but I don't have any trust.

PW, Peter Lamborn Wilson, Hakim Bey, etc.
A giant of a small, slight man. A very kind man. A brilliant piercing mind.
His Bolo-Bolo is an instruction manual.
Pirate Utopia is a revelation.
TAZ--a blueprint.
I love the response to the boy love hatred rave (how mean to bash a dead man)--countered by the notion of tutorship, guidance, etc. Sexuality not necessarily determined by male mentors when boys with inclinations seek out such relationships of their own accord. Albeit...if Peter was flawed, then who the fuck isn't? I also like the argument that anarchists traditionally rattle all cages. And that's what he did best.
I will miss him. I knew him for years, somewhat tangentially, but we were for certain fellow/sister travelers. He often wrote me little notes on books from Freedom Press and other anarchist-oriented publishers. I will always treasure them and the common bonds shared through our social convictions.
Peter, you were a piece of work! Long may your influence wave on the future!

sure to all of this, except that he didn't write bolo bolo, so not sure why that was included. PM is not PLW... unless you're breaking news here or something...

I think here you see a real generational divide. Anarchists from previous generations were, dare I say, a bit more free thinking and non-judgmental, willing to tolerate other perspectives and try to even understand them. Today’s anarchists are far more immediately judgmental and willing to rattle less cages (lest they to be judged) even if the ones they do rattle are rattled quite impressively sometimes.

Case in point those zinetards who decided to remind everyone that WolfI Landstreicher published an essay back in 1987 that was adjacent to pedophilic interests. In addition to being virtue signalling moral fagz very much in keeping with the times they completely missed the greater point of the essay. They represent a much more pathetic zine scene in comparison to the era that early Wolfi and others represent. Virtue signalling judgement is one of many things that make the millennial radical generation pathetic by comparison. Here’s hoping the Zs bring a return to form.

Sad news to be sure! Influential and superior mind!
But, does anyone know if he publicly commented on all these nast accusations?
Yes he slipped in poetic items about boys in his work, but did he ever act on it?
IF he was a pedo, I’d rather he write poetry than actually physically take action.
As much as I love his work, I’d drop him instantly if he took action

Some writers have been troubled by Bey's endorsement of adults having sex with children. Michael Muhammad Knight, a novelist and former friend of Wilson, stated that "writing for NAMBLA amounts to activism in real life. As Hakim Bey, Peter creates a child molester's liberation theology and then publishes it for an audience of potential offenders" and disavowed his former mentor.

You moralist monster, suppressing the sensuous expressions of puberty. I suppose its ok though to teach children to kill or to prepare for a miserable monogamous hetero servitude and violence at the hands of patriarchs?!

Hello.

You two too? I remember when I was 12 necking with my 13 yr old girlfriend, and fondling eachother's genitals cos it was hilariously ticklish and enjoyable, and this old patriarchal uncle of mine screamed and waved his arms, and I knew then, sex was a liberating act. Later I got into Reich and orgasm/fascist social moral relationship dominating cultures.

Will everyone please settle down, in respect to Peter, who isn't here to defend himself, and to the children whose lives are severely damaged by an absence of affection or emotional attachment, who are disciplined and denied sensualities.

Mmmm. I'm a big fan of Reich, and I get what you are saying, but I don't think he advocated adults messing around with kiddos. Kids playing with each other is of course natural; adults playing with kids has caused untold amounts of damage and shame. Ask any survivor, or see the writings of Derrick Jensen on the lingering effects of abuse.

That said, in the U.S. I'm in favor of lowering the age of consent to something more reasonable like sixteen... though from my own experience, teenagers are still way impressionable to dirty old men (or women -or x, y, z they/them if that's yer thing) and PLW was a dirty old man.

Still I believe in free speech, and he had the right to write for NAMBLA and I have the right to call it out as BS under the rubric of "anarchism".

So morally you would object to a 70year old man having sex with an 18 year old of either gender, and also 70 year women with 18 yr old boys?

That's not what I said, and no I would not object. I said I would be in favor of lowering the age of consent to 16. Yet, I still think teenagers can be pretty stupid (I was!) and impressionable, and I wonder about the power dynamic there, but don't find it morally objectionable.

Look, I was just advancing an example of sexual partners to understand some of your personal morality, and to then propose a similar hypothetical, a lonely 76 year old man seduces a 16 year old sexually active teenager male or female, which you approve of now that you have declared you acceptance of sexual activity between people with an age gape of 60 years. Thx Know Wonder

that sure isn't what they said, is it? ya trolling little shithead, you ;)

He wrote very little for them outside that one article. Also, are we on the same page of what activism is?

ANON **DESTROYS** CONVERSATION WITH COPY AND PASTE FROM WIKIPEDIAZONE

He will be missed. Bob and others in his boomer age group ain’t far from joining him. Sadly GenX and Y anarchists have not stepped up to the plate and given us anarchist ideas on this same level. It’s just derivative zine crap and activist adjacent boredom. I for one try to do my part in regards to anarchy and new ideas.

RIP PLW/HB

Like totally. Gen-X and Y cucks are too retarded denying their anarch ego egregores to step up to the heights set by boomer ego egregores. Every egregore knows this.
RIP PLW. We equate our Tweeter contributions to your body of work. You’re welcome.

"Sadly GenX and Y anarchists have not stepped up to the plate and given us anarchist ideas on this same level"

According to your logic does this mean that the "boomer age group" anarchists just utterly failed? Either they didn't make an impression or their message was otherwise ignored for reasons. If they had done their jobs wouldn't we all be living sweet, ego anarchy lives right now? OR perhaps the Gen-X and Y anarchists who were influenced by and came after the "boomer age group" anarchists you ejaculate over are they way they are BECAUSE of "boomer age group" anarchists' ideas and contribution? Maybe if PLW, BB, et al had kept their mouths shut and pens silent we wouldn't have had "derivative zine crap and activist adjacent boredom"? Makes you think.

It is quite often the case that good ideas(especially extreme and niche) go unread(the never entirely).

Bob, Peter and company were adjacent and downstream of a cultural revolutionary and insurgent period in US Western and World culture. That period faded for various reasons. It is hardly the fault of those with acutely good and radical ideas that things don’t change to scale. It sounds hipster to say this but the best ideas are quite often unpopular.

The Zine Scene(which PLW had a huge part in shaping along with BB) was not always derivative shit. To use a Heavy Metal analogy after Sabbath and company you had Metallica and Death. Right now anarchism is more like the derivative core this grind that crap that is contemporary metal(though there is still good stuff on both sides).

It is high time that that a new wave of anarchists n anarchs step up to the plate and do these pioneers some justice. I’m hoping genZ is that gen.

Here to say that after careful analysis it is clear that SirEinzige is the Wayne Price of edgelord, rest stop bathroom gloryhole anarchy. While Wayne is always quick to jump to the defense of any revolutionary action by The People, SirEinzige will always cream himself over the cringe for cringe sake. Party on, Wayne! Party on, Ziggy!
It's, like, silly to mention it but taking the approach that 'these are good ideas' as a matter of taste while obviously expressing that taste is subjective, and then not recognizing that others have different tastes, therefore prefer different ideas, makes my entire dojo chortle with glee.
The funniest thing would be for every cringe genZ anarchist to be just like Ziggy. He'd be so upset.
Every egregore knows this.

Rest in Chaos, Peter.

Sure good ideas are subjective. In terms of the distinction between me an Wayne, what makes you think that you come up the middle as being any good?

Yes, after Sabbath it mostly became teenage angst rather than teenage wrath and rage, though like you said, the best ideas never get heard or seen in whatever genre, the whole aesthetic is a shallow veneer of the potential creative depth music could be used as a rejuvenating catalyst for psychic developement.

Cobain veered off into the interesting Grunge genre which showed alot of promise, until opioid abuse raised its eternal lure before the artiste's suseptable will.

The GenX and Ys didn't step up because they got corrupted by materialism and IdPol, leftist cousins.

Sometimes old ideas revived from the dead are better than harebrained "knew" ideas. Still I wish you luck percolating some new drips.

On a positive note, its good that any group of folk can form their own TAZ and experiment with living in a sensuous non-cognitive non political and non economic experience.

Peter was and would be disgusted by the amount of censorship / moderation on this website and within anarchist conversation online.

Farewell, Peter. I'll miss our talks at the DQ.

was he also a passive-aggressive person who made the dead complain for him or is that just a you thing?

Indeed necromancy was one of his fascinations. Is one of yours passive aggressive denial of authoritarianistic behavior?

This comes as sad news. Damn, this guy was soooo interesting. He turned me on to Henry Corbin, among many others.

I had been trying to find a contact for PLW for awhile, but of course he had no email address. I wanted to ask him about sources for Sufi writing stoned, then straight, stoned, straight, etc.

He will be remembered for TAZ, but he wrote an incredible number of books on all sorts of subjects. I remember copping one of his books from the public library on "avant gardening"...and it was riveting! For those renegade intellectuals who are interested in cannabis, his book with Abel Zug, _Orgies of the Hemp Eaters_, is something to have on your shelf. Trust me on this. It's fat, exhaustively researched, anarchistic, and encyclopedic.

Orgies of Hemp Eaters is fantastic but hard to find. Reportedly Autonomedia will be publishing more copies which would be great.

From Peter Lamborn Wilson's Wikipedia entry:

Criticism and controversy
Murray Bookchin included Wilson's work (as Bey) in what he called "lifestyle anarchism", which he criticized Wilson's writing for tendencies towards mysticism, occultism, and irrationalism.[20] Wilson did not respond publicly. Bob Black wrote a rejoinder to Bookchin in Anarchy after Leftism.

Some writers have been troubled by Bey's endorsement of adults having sex with children.[21] Michael Muhammad Knight, a novelist and former friend of Wilson, stated that "writing for NAMBLA amounts to activism in real life. As Hakim Bey, Peter creates a child molester's liberation theology and then publishes it for an audience of potential offenders"[22] and disavowed his former mentor.[23]

EVERYONE READ THIS ANON'S COPY AND PASTE FROM WIKIPEDIA IMMEDIATELY-ISM

Rest in power, creative spirit Peter Lamborn Wilson.

I see some young anarchists grumbling about The Olds disrespecting beloved frugal romantic Peter Lamborn Wilson. "Times are different," etc.

It's funny because my father was a whole generation older in anarchism and viewed Wilson with a full erection.

ffs can people pls stop disrespecting my father william gillis the first aka the father of anarchism!!! you anews primitivistic nihilisters always take it too far!!! again: LEAVE MY DADDY OUT OF THIS

No

What the fuck did you just fucking say about my daddy, William Gillis the First, you little bitch? I’ll have you know he graduated top of his class in Big A Anarchism, and he's been involved in numerous secret raids on the anarchyplanet network, and everyone knows that it was him who finally took down Aragorn.

He trained in cyber warfare before that was even a thing and he was the top keyboard warrior in the entire of Silicon Valley, before there was even any silicon there. You are nothing to him but just another pixel. He will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on the West Coast, mark my fucking words.

You think you can get away with saying that shit about Gillis the First over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak he is contacting his secret network of tech bros across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. He can be anywhere, anytime, and he can wipe your hard drive in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with his bare wrinkly hands.

Not only is he extensively trained in unarmed, bare-chested combat, but he has access to the entire arsenal of the Centre 4 Stateless Society and he will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue.

But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. He will shit fury all over you from his colostomy bag and you will drown in it.

You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

I'm never really sure about this whole PLW is a pedo argument. Where is the "evidence"? Has anyone condemning him actually seen and read his NAMBLA articles? I ask, because I honestly haven't read that stuff. I have read his more easily-obtainable work, and the worst in that stuff tends to be more sufi-inspired poetry about youthful boys, etc; not my tastes, but from what I've seen, nothing truly horrifying either.

how many that condemn him know that Allen Ginsberg also wrote for NAMBLA? both Ginsberg and Burroughs also talked about "boys", but from what I've seen, it's mostly a generic term for anyone younger than them. Remember Burroughs didn't even start writing until his mid-forties! despite WSB's bizarre and very horrifying, symbolic "fantasies" in his novels, he never struck me as the pedo type. pedophilia tends to be about power-tripping by deranged individuals, and quite often not something run-of-the-mill homosexuals participate in (more often than not pedos tend to be hetero).

another fact often overlooked, if at all even known by the straight people throwing stones here, NAMBLA was established as a sort of haven for younger homosexuals to be shepherded into adulthood by men who had struggled with this in their youth as well. straights might bristle at that, but it was seen as something sort of positive way back in the 1980s. hence a small rush of "established" writers (Ginsberg, PWL, et al) in the 80s to contribute. granted, and this really does suck, NAMBLA lost that completely and spiraled into something pretty deranged.

and, let's get this clear right now: I'm a happily married straight guy that abhors any pedophile actions against anyone under age. I just want "evidence" that shows PLW as a deranged sick fuck and not some elderly gay man that sees poetic beauty, via sufi poetry, in youth. again, his poetry ain't anything I care to get into, but I will fight for his right to make it and publish it, as long as that's all it is. however, I wish someone would show me evidence that he has abused his power as an adult with a minority, or show me where he advocates that others abuse their adult positions in such ways.

so, in this age of fake news, pedo tunnels under DC and "pizzagate", let's not misuse the term "pedophilia" as an easy insult for people we disagree with. it is a sick disorder that should not be taken lightly. if you dislike PLW's poetry, fine. if you dislike his politics, fine. but anything else requires evidence and not just your opinion. otherwise, I will continue reading his political and social commentaries, to which I find thought provoking and even illuminating at times.

William! Noo! Give no ground to these spiritualistic individualists! Not one inch! Your Patreoners demand it of you!

(Which I’m against for one) and which there is no evidence that he did. The only thing that is known is that he had an orientation(and it IS an orientation retards). The rest comes down to whether you are disgusted by pedophilia or not as such. I am simply not disgusted by it and I generally tune out societal disgusts which quite often are historically specific.

What bothers me is the age imbalance fallacy regarding inter generational sex. Imbalances apply to every thing regarding adults and minors. Hell David Benatar makes a very good argument that bringing someone into physical existence is an imposition. I don’t quite buy DB’s argument but it’s convincing and certainly there are MANY cultural things that are allowed that are impositions(circumcision and religion anyone) that have traumatic lasting effects.

There is nothing qua bad about pedophilia outside a historically specific disgust which I simply don’t share.

nope nope nope! doesn't come down to disgust at all.

the philosophical bedrock is about how consent can meaningfully function with huge power disparities ... something any anarchist should be able to understand ... ... ... ... ...

.... ... ....

you braying jackass

Pretty well most or morality is a manifestation of human disgust(see Jonathan Haidt) He also talks about moral dumbfounding on many issues that result from societal moral judgements. Pedophilia is an obvious example of people not being able to look at it logically.

You are displaying the imbalance fallacy again with consent. There are all kinds of things that children/minors don’t consent to. Some of it is unconsensual some of it is aconsensual(cultural encoding that someone will understand in time) There are things that are allowed on children right now that I consider to be worse at the as such level. Again, as someone who is pro-carnal and pro-bacchus) I simply don’t have the base disgust for pedophilia though I acknowledge it can’t be allowed in this current historical context.

Another point I would make is that consent is a governmentalist contractual construct. It really doesn’t have a place in a more stateless immediate human context.

To the other idiot, you clearly are unaware of the term contact/non-contact as it relates to this particular discourse.

Whoa SirEinzige has gone full brainworm. Bingo!

"imbalance fallacy"
"aconsensual(cultural encoding that someone will understand in time)" LOL
"as someone who is pro-carnal and pro-bacchus"
"consent is a governmentalist contractual construct." AHHHAHHA

In time we will be unsurprised when he becomes a TikTok sensation.
ZigTok 2023.
Everygregore knows this.

I say it's about power disparity, you say various other things using dubious rhetoric ... and should we ever meet on the road...

Is an unavoidable part of human affairs lump a’ dumps. This is not always a prelude to predatorial human behaviour. This can apply to sex and other things. Someone brought up the historical context of NAMBLA and made the point that many outcasted homosexual youth found love and meaning in older men who went through the same life trials and tribulations in repressive homophobic fordist society. Of course there was a power imbalance between older and younger as there is in many things older/younger beyond sexual intercourse. In these instances however you did not necessarily get predatorial practices on the part of the older men who(again)went through the same shit the youths did.

It was the homophobic protectors like Anita Bryant who were the real pathogens to homosexual youth. I unlike you consider this historical context and it aids what is already an amoral overall position on human affairs.

And lulz to you and me meeting. If you look like I think you do it would not go well for you;)

that's cute, you're real cute as always. it's "unavoidable" in exact proportion to one's desire to avoid it ... or not.

i'm not trying to tell anyone what to do, only nodding towards the reality of predatory behaviour, for which I reserve judgement and always will. quite cheerfully so! and with no small amount of malice for them! i like bullying bullies, you now? it's a hobby.

their tears are the finest wine, that exact moment where they flip from you-can't-stop-me to whining about how they're the true victims. i live for it! don't yuck my yum, as they say! isn't that kind of what you're saying too? but definitely go fuck yourself tho, k? as always

I am more disgusted by your misuse of “qua” than your edgelord opinions on pedophilia that everyone already knows about. We get it, nothing is “bad.” Lastly, your choice to draw a parallel between “made contact,” as in making contact with alien or unconcqured peoples of alien or terra incognita. and the act of molesting children is remarkable and did not go unnoticed, you human diarrhea stain.

Err, excuse me, but the term --> " ,,,making contact,,," is not exclusively reserved for referring to communications with aliens or unconquered peoples and can be used in a plethora of situations. e.g. The positive wire made contact with the negative wire and blew the fuse.,,,As soon as his body made contact with the freezing water, he got depressed....As soon as his penis came into contact with his hand, he posted a comment on the @news site at 13:51 etc etc.

The Latin scholar did not claim there were not other usages just that the choice had the parallel. Critical thinking and language are hard don’t beat yourself up for making this common mistake. You assume the Latin scholar is a penis having individual because all scholars must have penises, right? Misogynistic scum

Parallel assumes an analagous relationship which is a false analogy or logical fallacy in which someone argues on the basis of a faulty or weak analogy. Gender choice is irrelevant.
My view is that unconditional love is a rare and precious relationship which would not diminish its essential pure form with trivial carnal lusts, and I believe PLW was one who observed this rare encounter with appropriate grace and tenderness.

Clearly more fash than grammarian. You embarrass yourself. You embarrass language.

I also am graceful and appropriately tender and shall rest my case on the precept -- Treat others as you would have them treat you.

I bet right now he is riding an anti-lion now through a sea of lemonade, heading to a pirate utopia, where he can plunder some underage booty.

Everything is set up to protect the abuser and what that means is that we all conspire to help the abuser not face the implications of his abuse. We all protect the abuser emotionally so one of the ways Hakim Bey gets protected is by other Anarchists overlooking the small infringements in advocating the "beauty" of a man loving a boy. That is a power dynamic that was also advocated by that creep Daniel Carleton Gadjusek (or GadjuSICK, as I see it). [ https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1996-04-09-1996100049-story.html ]

As someone who had been repeatedly targeted by older men, it's just something I feel strongly about.

I think similar parallels can be found with this, and the way fascist ideas get dripped into certain genres of music, notable neo-folk and some black metal, for example. These ideas, placed in a milieu where not everyone who is listening to it is aware of what they are doing then get normalized. (See here the music of Death In June and others. Here is a good article:

https://datacide-magazine.com/from-subculture-to-hegemony-transversal-st... )

I see Bey/PLW in a similar way. He mixed in some ideas many would not really agree with, inside a form that was more digestible. So when the young kids came over to his TAZ, they might not have realized there were some ulterior motives. I was one of those people, and then had to do a double-take, re-reading what I had previously read.

Still, I'll raise a glass of lemonade to his memory.

I completely agree with you and perhaps it's worth mentioning that this ... icky corner of anarchy land has been discussed many times on this platform? still trying to decide how i feel about getting dogpiled by the trolls during a funeral for an admittedly brilliant mind who also happened to be more than a bit of a creep (in all likelihood) annnd how that intersects with classic homophobia tropes ... annnd a theoretically interesting discussion about age disparity consent... that always gets ruined by vampires .... annnnd so on and so on.

anyway, that's why I kept my mouth shut until now! perhaps all these things are worth mentioning? still can't decide. also ...ick!

know wonder, i agree with a lot of this too, but i do disagree that everything is set up to protect the abuser. it's a lot like women who are raped, in the sense that there is both protection of the abuser and also rabid rhetoric in defense of children/survivors/etc.

don't know that this changes anything else about what you said, except that there are knee jerk reactions and bad faith on both sides, even if one side is a lot more immediately (and obviously) a problem.

Yes, I think you raised some good points. I agree there is rabid rhetoric. I suppose the #metoo movement was also used as cover to just to throw a bunch of people under the bus, even if they'd done nothing more than make a mistake. We all make mistakes, and everyone has there flaws.

The truth is I'm rather conflicted about good ol Bey. I loved TAZ and Immediatism and some of his other writings when I was young. Later as I read some of his newer works such as Ec(o)logues and Abecedarium I noticed him "inserting" the boy love stuff into the texts. I went back and re-read some of the other stuff and it was very prevalent once I was reading it with a less idealized mind. Some of his ideas are very catching & fetching.

Later I wondered, as I saw the traces of this obsession of his in various spots throughout his writing, what his real interest in anarchy was. It was kind of the same with the neo-folk music I mentioned, and some of the more obscure industrial and noise artists. "Oh, are use of fascist imagery is just to shock" etc. Yet when you dug deeper into it, some of them actually were Nazis or far-right nationalists of various kinds. The slight veneer on the releases, and the oblique lyrics were actually a kind of subtle propaganda and entryism into the scenes.

Anyway, someone further up this thread mentioned the need to not put people on pedestals. That's true of pederasts on pedestals, or Bakunin, or Berkman, or Goldman or whomever. Also, not every heathen group playing with pagan imagery from Scandinavia or Germany is fascist. There are huge gray areas everywhere in life and culture.

One of the things I find so damaging in Judaeo-Christian rhetoric is the reliance on moral binaries. Yet the same is also true of much Leftist, or would-be-Leftist ideology, I suppose inherited from the dialectic logic and reasoning of Hegel, and passed on to Marx and Engels. I think there needs to be more triolectic logic, that allows for third positions.

Anyway, Bey had some brilliant moments and ideas, but he was a flawed human being like the rest of us and I really wonder about his primary motivations.

The idea that everything Hakim Bey wrote was secretly a conspiracy to get kids to sleep with him is QAnon type thinking. I doubt even Robert Helms really believed that, although who knows what goes on in that guy's head. Fact is, Wilson was a man of means, and could've lived out his days in Thailand or wherever and done exactly as thousands of wealthy Western men do over there.

Even if it was true, that begs the question: do Helms' sexual desires inform everything he writes? Or is it only gay men who do that?

I'm glad someone else brought up the blatantly obvious fact that the word 'boys' in the writing of Hakim Bey (as in Ginsberg, Burroughs and more or less every gay writer ever) refers to males who are younger than they are. In the same way Duran Duran's song 'Girls on Film' is not a song about child pornography, not every gay man's ode to boys is about breaking age of consent laws. I was once told I was a 'beautiful, beautiful boy' by a professor at his retirement party. I was forty at the time.

I don't even know who Robert Helm's is and I definitely ain't QAnon, so I don't get the reference to Helms.

From my own reading of Bey I didn't get that "boys" stood in to mean something other than the word itself. I suppose it meant something else too for the Uranian Poets?

"Hey little girl is your daddy home? Did he go away and leave you all alone? I got a bad desire ..."

OMG The Boss is a pedo, right? Words are hard.

Our conversation was short and sweet / It nearly swept me off-a my feet / And I'm back in the rain / Oh and you are on dry land / You made it there somehow / You're a big girl now

Add Bob Dylan to the list! All these creeps singing about GIRLS... where's Robert Helms when you need him?

Actually Dylan has recently been accused of some serious sexual transgressions in the 60s, but something tells me that when he dies there won't be a mass pile on of anons shouting from the rooftops about how terrible he was and, of course, how great they are in comparison...

Perhaps the lesson here is: Kill All Men, Their Defenders, And False Critics? Yes, I think so.

I think this is definitely true a lot of the time but not necessarily all the time. I think people often use the same language without knowing they don’t mean the same thing and I do think that’s the case with the use of “boys” as you’re describing. It’s also worth mentioning that a lot of if not most of the supposed hardline real boy-lovers of NAMBLA were really just interested in teens slightly younger than the age of consent (which varies and used to vary a lot more). Even David Thorstad, the main founder of NAMBLA, was himself not exactly a pedophile, but a pederast. The difference being that a pederast is interested in boys who are post-puberty, so basically teens. To me, that is a pretty big difference from pursuing a 9 year old. And my understanding is that historically teen involvement with older men was a big part of the gay movement and a way a lot of gay kids had their first introductions to the gay scene. Not everyone, but my understanding was it was fairly common and not this unusual thing. Now NAMBLA obviously, especially over time, was tolerant of basically sexually with no age limits, partially on principle I imagine and partially because some of them really were interested in the most transgressive types of relationships age wise.

So obviously a lot of people don’t like the idea of a 15 year old boy being involved with a full grown man, regardless of how the boy feels before, during, and after, and I understand that and because this is such a controversial subject I feel it’s worth mentioning that I have no interest in anything like that personally. But my main point is that there is a difference between someone who’s 15 and 9, as anyone who has been both ages can likely attest. And so I think there should be a difference in how we view those who pursue relationships with one and the other.

This doesn’t entirely resolve the PLW question but I’ll say that having been pretty into him, I personally encountered little to no boy love stuff in his writing. I know it exists and it exists in more than one place but I really strongly disagree with the notion that this was his main political concern, main thing he was interested in writing about, or that it was the secret message or subtext of everything he wrote. I’ve seen numerous people say things along the lines of “the real reason he’s involved in anarchism is to validate pedophilia” or that this is somehow the central aim behind every text he wrote. I really think the evidence does not support that at all. He had a very very wide variety of interests and wrote a lot about a lot. The way people talk about this is like the way people would say an anarchist has anarchist motives behind everything they write and we’ve all seen the formula. There’s a review of a book, an article about a news event, an analysis of a moment in history and by the end of it there’s always the central point we get around to: smash the state, overthrow capitalism, anarchy will triumph, etc. In other words, there is a propaganda motivation behind things an anarchist writes and they are trying to get those points across despite writing about a lot of things. So people write as if this is the case with PLW and boy love and that is just a completely unsupportable argument. It is so obviously not the central aim or argument behind even a significant minority of his texts. Him peppering in comments here and there on a small handful of occasions to me is not convincing evidence that this is his whole thing, his whole mission, his raison d’être. It’s just not, no matter what you think of him, his apparent interest in the subject, whatever he may have done or not, etc. And we clearly don’t know much and probably never will know whether his boy love was for real, whether he was just being provocative, or whatever. But all I know is the man contributed immensely to anarchist thought and many adjacent movements and subjects and I think that should not be dismissed.

Pedantic blah blah blah listen you're all hung up on historic moral imperatives ingrained into your self-righteous head. I accept the prepubescent demarcation, I prefer the cellular physiological data for puberty, Otherwise, if no skin tissue is bruised or torn, and a pleasurable creative relationship was developed which passed on skills of life and prolonged survival in the environment IS NOT A CONCERN for moral and judicial intervention, or ridiculous liberal-esque discussion on an anarchist site. Oh my dear Peter, you are lucky to be gone from these imposters, who frown on a 76year old such as yourself, from enjoying the young physicality of a 14 year old with pubes!

"So obviously a lot of people don’t like the idea of a 15 year old boy being involved with a full grown man, regardless of how the boy feels before, during, and after, and I understand that and because this is such a controversial subject I feel it’s worth mentioning that I have no interest in anything like that personally."
This is an unfortunate paragraph, so twisted in its motives, terms like "being involved with" and "anything like that", so reminiscent of that older conservative generation, probably within the age group of 65 - 75, and probably secretively envious of PLW, so denying his own latent desire to embrace the youthful body!

"Even David Thorstad, the main founder of NAMBLA, was himself not exactly a pedophile, but a pederast. The difference being that a pederast is interested in boys who are post-puberty, so basically teens"

Wrong.

Pederasty is the older term for being sexually into kids, but often more precisely young prepubescent boys. Being into post-pubescent is a deviance known as "hebephilia".

did you have any luck finding your imaginary bullshit "imbalance fallacy" on there? hmmm?

since you're already on the site and all.
added bonus! the balance fallacy does exist? and it's what you and several other posters are currently doing in this thread

Obviously what I mentioned is not a formal fallacy, but it is indicative of illogical inconsistent thinking.

^made up bullshit, pulled straight from the ass of ziggles the diddler

Noooo what I meant to say was that if you look at 10000+ years of formally acceptable logical phallusies there is the egregorian potential for my informal addition! Every ego egregore knows this!
*sweats*
*hides for a while*

Wtf you using the moralistic term "deviance" on an anarchist site, preacher ?!

What is called hebephilia is not a big deal in many human cultures. Males in particular have proclivities towards neotenous features. Most human cultures give the ok(with varying conditions) to fucking pubescent human beings.

It’s this epoch of modern western xian sexual mores that is a historical deviance. We’re talking inside the last century deviant.

Nooo I meant “xian” like Chris-ians which would be a term for followers of anyone named Chris which is basically where Christ derived from. We like to pronounce it like “sheAhn” but “ChrisIan” will be acceptable in some circles. This is another potential formal terminologicsl addition to the grammar. Every pubescent admiring einzige egregore knows this.

Actually you are incorrect, Jesus' name in Hebrew was “Yeshua” which translates to English as Joshua. The proper historically authentic term in naming any religion taking Yeshua's name would be Yeshuaism. I would accept Joshuaism or Joshite, though the latter has a derogatory feel, though context would either reinforce or ignore the nuance.
Xian is actually truer to abbreviation of Christianism, Yeshuaism or Joshuaism. For the believers, the following, Christian, Yeshuan or Joshuan, but NEVER Christianite, Yeshite or Joshite, that's just plain bad manners spelling.

Nooooo obviously what I mentioned is not a formal naming translation, but it is indicative of historilogically inconsistent naming! Every einzigorgon egregore knows this.

It thinx it's replying to me:)

My pronouns are radical/centrist eggo/egregorian/anarchian thank you very much.
Donkey Kong!

Yes sir I was, and " +ian " is the perfect abbreviation.

Clearly more fash than philologist. Additionally, nowhere in your factually irrelevant rant did you explain how "xian" was more correct than "xtian" when abbreviating Christian, or how you derived "xian" at all. Christ =/= Yeshua. Every philologist knows this. Good attempt at a 'splainin smokescreen tho.

But a purist would insist on +ian, because like, he was crucified on a cross +, not on an X !

oh you like 3rd positions huh?! I'LL BET YOU DO

just kidding, that's all fair

I'm afraid I accidentally put this comment previously on an archived page that all the codes came thru on but whose script may not function.

Last night he came up in a conversation with Don Meinshausen, who asked me if he was still around. I said I didn't know, thought he was, but that I'd check. (This comment also serves to tell anyone who was wondering whether Don is still around that he is; he's here with me.)

One thing I’ll say further on ‘the issue’ is that if he was a pederast and not a pedophile like I had assumed that’s even less of an issue for me as that involves pubescent human beings. That’s basically aggregate sexual human history on a Tuesday.

The morally uptight sticklights can go jump in some water.

Wilson, in the small portion of his work under discussion below, invoked the hysterical rage of the Spectacle upon his own head, so great was his contempt for the flood of manufactured pablum dragging each of us to the threshold of imbecility. I can't find it now, but in an interview he discusses this explicitly. I think his "Nambla" poems are beautiful. They're about impossible love. After listening to his many Naropa lectures, I find it inconceivable that he would engage in a coercive, manipulative, or inegalitarian relationship.

A brilliant wonderful person. When you spent a few minutes with him he stimulated creativity in even the dullest of humans.Very loving by the way.Dear Peter.Rascal.I say a lot of the posted comments are from people who never knew Peter Lamborn Wilson. So many fools out there.all critics and no knowledge.Peter was an amazing star .

What's worrying about anarchism and anarchy is that Bey along with Black and Landstreicher have not had any worthy intellectual successors. These people hypothetically should have been late born Xers and Yers. It simply hasn't happened. It also corresponds with a clear decline that began right after 9/11. This seems eerily similar to the decline of anarchism/anarchy after WW1 where the likes of Novatore and Armand along with all the other tendencies of anarchism/anarchy from collectivist to individualist simply did not see worthy generational updates.

You look at how the sites have seemingly dried up(this is the last topic with over a 100 comments-have they As all fucked off to the fediverse discord and social media?) And it seems pretty obvious that we are seeing a multi-generational decline of @ ideas that mirrors what happened from the start of the 20s through to the late 60s. It could very well be the 40s that we begin to see solid @ ideas return to the stage. Right now it's the full on stench of identitarianism and all the retardation and faggotry(burnable value not homos) that comes with it.

Sad. All the more reason to solute the likes of Pete for bringing great ideas into the world. Black will probably be joining him soon sadly, hopefully Wolfie sticks around.

Long live anarchy.

Possibly that is because you spend all your time online. if you read the zines that PLW was (& Landstreicher is) involved with you might realize who their intellectual peers are. Escape cyberia, and things might become clear to you.

I've read some of those writings(KKA for instance) and while there's good stuff there were no young bux that came out of that whole later zine scene era that really matched those writers in question. Fact is that @ideas peaked in the 80s and 90s. You had the whole indymedia era that followed and that was-in hindsight-mostly disappointing. Much of the terrible leftist activist puritanical procedures that plague @ today had their start during the whole indymedia era(call out, cancelling etc) and they played a role in sinking anything interesting that occupy could have been. Occupy was the last salvo of anything interesting. Everything since then has been garbage in garbage out identitarian retardation.

At this point the only option for honest post-leftists(and even some still remaining honest leftists(they're not going away)) is for a new radical discourse to emerge probably driven by different types of media ecology(web 3 maybe?) Or something just off grid period.

So true, SirEin! These retardcucks don't know that we require the actual Great Mans for our radical centrist egregore anarch ego anarchy. We will not accept mere peers as substitutes like some lames out there. Anarchy is in a sad state when there are no Great Mans to follow. We egregore anarchs can not stand this garbage identitarian retardation. We should just quit anarchy and go back to based tiddy structures in Minecraft to share on Reddit.

Hehehe, KKA was over 20 years ago. Zige hasn’t read anything in decades. No wonder the intellectual landscape is so bleak.

And even though it was a come down from the originality and novelty of the 80s and 90s it was better then anything being produced now much of which has been greatly infected by the leftist identitarian nexus(a term used by the fucking cancelled podcast).

The stuff that's at least preferable is largely derivative. It's like tech death metal after the good stuff in the 80s and 90s.

Grass

I've been around and also feel alienated by the increasing collectivism and lack of critical analysis amongst the "anarchist milieu", which I keep seperate from the more authentic anarch spirit which PLW, Black and Lando' lived and expressed.
It's incredibly frustrating to see this new cycle of generational renewal being diverted from free tbought by the stresses of a dying overcrowded planet,,,,sure, 9/11 played a part in this masse global era of distraction and uncertai ty for the future, and i feel fear and other reflexive self-preserving emotions will see a diminishing interest in the more ideal pastime of anarch existence.

I better step in here and also voice my disappointment with the direction anarchism is going, not that I approve of the democratic concept of majority rule,,,,,,I'm just lending my minority voice against the boring unimaginative left-liberal corporate me tality that has overwhelmed even radical thinking groups. *sigh,,,,, yawns*

Not that those outside of cyber forum/social shit reflect this. Go cry about the idiocy of cyber discourse. Meanwhile, some have quit this shit. They signal le way.

Another Stirnerian here to offer my condolences to the family of PLW and to add my deep respect for a true individualist in heart heart and soul.

He's essentially a poetic mine where's I'm a spergy logical autist. I couldn't write like him if I tried. Me and him both have an acute understanding of what anarchy should be though:)

*mind*

Why does thecollective who runs anarchistnews have to be such downers and ruin perfectly good discourse by swinging around their big dicks of moderation? Why leave up some snark but delete others when nothing was a real violation. Why pretend you're all not just being exactly like Elon Musk with Twitter but in a more microcosmic way? Think long and hard about your lives and what you're doing here and how it is contrary to anarchy lifeways.

that's a good question, that "why?"

maybe you could consider why moderators moderate some comments and not others, in some way other than the rhetorical or the they-just-hate-our-freedoms way, and get back to us.
