From the Chicago Tribune:

"[Chris] French had tried to break through a line of officers on bicycles near Van Buren Street and Wabash Avenue on May 20 last year, according to prosecutors.

French pushed an officer who was detaining a protester in the Loop about 8:45 p.m. that day, and then scuffled with police who tried to arrest him, slightly injuring three officers.”

And from the Chicago Sun-Times:

An anti-NATO protester was sentenced to roughly a year in Cook County Jail Thursday after he admitted he scuffled with the Chicago Police officers who tried to arrest him during the mass demonstrations…

During the protests in downtown Chicago, the Wisconsin man charged an officer who was trying to arrest another protester who had knocked the officer down, prosecutors said.

“You aren’t arresting him,” police said French told the cop, pushing him in the 400 block of South Wabash.

The officer suffered a cut on his left hand.

Officers had to use an “emergency takedown,” and French tried to grab the wrist of an officer, making it hard for him to be handcuffed, prosecutors said.

One officer tripped and cut his left wrist, requiring medical attention and another officer scraped his knees, police said at the time.

French, who wore shorts and a T-shirt to court Thursday, was taken into custody immediately after the brief hearing before Howard.

a YEAR for misdemeanor resisting arrest?1!!?!

I'll be sending them a letter soon. Thanks for letting us know!

Chris definitely prefers gender-neutral pronouns. They also have expressed the notion that maybe capitalism doesn't exist... maybe now they will be convinced:P

send them zines about prison/capitalism if you can:)

"They also have expressed the notion that maybe capitalism doesn't exist..."

What?!?!????

I've seriously never heard anyone, anarchist otherwise, make such an argument. Do say more, please; I'm intrigued.

write them a letter and ask them!

I know a lot of these anarchists skate the line between right wing and communist libertarianism. Typically in America, this view is seen the most from the right wing variety as well as others but the main point is simply semantics. Not capitalism per se but old capitalism, markets based on mostly exchange in goods of equal or relatively equal value and/or currency. What exists today is nothing of the sort, if you haven't noticed. The idea that we go to the store and spend money we worked to earn is only an illusion which covers up a condition that more closely resembles slavery, because the conditions of who gets to set up a store and further, what those stores sell among other and various specifics of individual exchange behaviour is determined at a much higher level by coercion and violence, through wars of conquest and monopolization of resources. The wages paid are purposely meant to be just enough to get by and further, through no coincidence, to create a reliance on credit. What this person is probably referring to is industrial capitalism where instead we are currently under the yoke of finance capital.

"Not capitalism per se but old capitalism, markets based on mostly exchange in goods of equal or relatively equal value and/or currency. What exists today is nothing of the sort "

No, no, no. "equal or relatively equal value and/or currency" is a fallacious assumption. Never have capitalists considered equality of ANY quantitative or qualitative matter!

Yeah, I suppose I see your point. For the capitalist system, exploitation is sort of a necessary condition.

Yes, whereas all of my scones are for free and I possess no property, and my generosity is rewarded and reciprocated fully in the most organic way imaginable ;)

Furthermore, industrial capitalism is booming at an all time peak, I don't understand how you can make such an absurd statement concerning the non-existence of capitalism with this gem of erudite analysis >

"What this person is probably referring to is industrial capitalism where instead we are currently under the yoke of finance capital."

Partly correct in the parochial Western sphere, the tip of the capitalist iceberg. Ever heard of China? 90% of your existence is a product of State industrial capitalism.

You are committing and error here because you equate the progression from industrial capitalism to finance capitalism as necessitating the abolition or reduction of industry. Quite the opposite actually, it is through finance capital that the industrial forces of society are let lose to the extent we see today. Finance capitalism does not mean the end of industry but rather points to those who control it.

I never assumed a progression, both industrial and finance exist side by side in different proportions depending on the regional location of banks and the labour market. I'm not going to waste my time searching for addresses on Long Island for the wealthiest capitalists, nor am I going to point at the vatican or winsor castle, but it just so happens that the asset and paper wealth floating globally around us at this moment still requires a step by step synchronicity of labour management, not its precedence. Money IS poured in and labour pours in, money goes out and labour strikes or goes home.

"Money IS poured in and labour pours in, money goes out and labour strikes or goes home."
This statement really doesn't contradict either of our theses.

but this earlier statement is patently and factually incorrect...
"industrial and finance exist side by side in different proportions depending on the regional location of banks and the labour market."
Industrial capital doesn't exist side by side with finance capital. Finance capital is loaned out to capitalists and becomes industrial capital. You are looking at them statically not as the functions they play in the market.

I gave a static not going to waste time splitting hairs statement in reply to you static statement. Ummmm,,,,,,,,,my scones aren't static!

Also the idea of searching Long Island for the wealthiest capitalists was a metaphor alluding to the decentralisation of capitalist finance which in this era has become a floating cyberspace digital Fort Knox. The infrastructures for production are quickly constructed massive modules which are placed wherever the labour market accepts the lowest wage. Look, I have a football team staying at my trailer tonight, I have alot of scones and hamburgers to prepare, goodbye.

You're full of it (besides scones and burgers I mean). Seriously, in what way could finance capital be anything other than money loaned for production (hiring labor, raw materials, machinery). That is precisely what defines finance capital, as such it is not decentralizing but monopolizing. At least it was at the beginning of the 20th century. As I see it now, every country has four major banks which pretty much control everything. Further monopolization will lead to international finance capital and a global state monopoly. But tbh, I haven't been keeping close attention, I'm still trying to catch up. It may be that finance capital is fragmenting as you say, but I'm skeptical, and rather it is more likely small subsidiaries that you are referring to.

"in what way could finance capital be anything other than money loaned for production (hiring labor, raw materials, machinery)." perhaps you are unfamiliar with the derivatives market?

Though I wouldn't say "capitalism" doesn't exist, I'd say that what a lot of people used to mean when they said "capitalism" isn't the popular economic model used today. I could see this statement being taken out of context as well.

fuck Chris French

IGTT 1/10
F for effort even, you gotta give us something.
Cointeltroll is lazy.

kid's a scumbag. not worth airing dirty laundry here, but there are solid folks that deserve our time and attention.

how very unsubstantatiated of you. may i propose that the @ scene needs to pay a little more attention to the legal support even of "scumbags" as these are the kind of people most vulnerable to informing, tactics of infiltration and bolstering repression. our terrible relationships will come back to haunt us.

what makes them a scumbag?

history of violence against other members of his community

To say the least

What community?

If he'd worn a suit and tie he would have received 6 months. I influenced a magistrate with my delicious Devonshire tea and scones, it doesn't mean I slept with him or gave anything away. We must be more Machiavellian and graceful in our daily intercourse. Judges have alot of pride, turning up in shorts and T-shirt is disrespectful to that whole authority scene, why exacerbate the situation? Most revolutionary obsessives totally lack street smarts, or else they are into the absurd cult of celebrity, or demonstrations stemming from their petite bourgeois ressentiment which fuels the whole predictable rev experience.

Seems like Chris's reputation precedes they. Was hardly surprised by the negative comments already posted here about Chris. A divisive glory hound, at best. But your typical fool isn't so reckless. Wouldn't surprise me if they support network was comprised of other dubious characters. At worst, I'm sure they will take care of they. As for the rest of us however, as another comment already put it, "there are solid folks that deserve our time and attention."

Also, I'm curious, does adopting gender neutral pronouns help you get laid? That really seems like it must be the motivation for some people.

Wow. Some of these bullshit comments. Wow.

Listen, fuck these comments so hard.

Chris and I have had a falling out. In fact, I'm sure they have had a falling out with a lot of people they were once friends with. They are not very delicate or gentle with their relationships and I basically hate their politics (which are excessively minoritarian, entitled, and basically a justification for ooglism more than anything else.)

Regardless! Chris is extremely intelligent and fearless. They wouldn't want people to feel like they "should" support them and they are probably not against people airing out shit about them or being against supporting them, per se: all apart of anti-social civil war at the molecular level or some shit like that. I'm not trying to speak for Chris here at all but I am saying that people shouldn't base their support for prisoners only on personal shit. Probably a lot of the people you support are assholes and misogynists or were at one point.

Basically what I'm saying: I plan to materially support Chris because I know that people who are not supported become snitches and because of their fearless attack on the police, which they have pled guilty to, in order to save another demonstrator. Even though they have become intolerable this last half year or so and burnt all of their bridges, basically.

If the anarchists in the states actually took themselves seriously an unsubstantiated rumor or a snitch jacketing with no evidence would equal a physical confrontation. But so many people who claim to be anarchists are because they want to belong to some clique. Its a fucking joke and if we can't move on from it we should just give up.

The problem isn't really a matter of whether or not this particular person is deserving of some sort of support network. For better or worse, this particular person seems to have a support network. And the problem isn't really people potentially getting involved with someone who may or may not cause them various problems in the future which, it seems, some of the comments here are a warning about. You can decide for yourself whether or not all this needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

The problem is that there are many known political prisoners with solid reputations who have been railroaded, but they won't get half the support or media attention. And there are others who, perhaps being more worthy of attention, fall completely through the cracks. This is to say nothing of the millions of other normal everyday people who go through the prison system with no support whatsoever. They get no support before, during, or after their sentences.

Maybe the implication of the comments here is that Chris French is some sort of deep cover agent, or maybe it's merely that this person is simply bad news. Those may or may not be more or less valid concerns. Unfortunately, these are things which sometimes must be taken into consideration. Whatever the case, it's not necessary to make a poster child of every wingnut who seems to have a peculiar knack for finding trouble.

This is in no way to deter people from supporting the countless others who, clearly, have less of a support network. If you feel inclined to help a prisoner out, then let this serve now as a reminder to write a letter, make a visit, or send a care package to them. And let this also serve as a reminder that the prison system as a whole needs to be abolished, efforts can also be directed toward that purpose.

"Maybe the implication of the comments here is that Chris French is some sort of deep cover agent"

Can you elaborate please?

re: the vagueness of the critical comments doesn't clearly express that French is merely a piece of shit and that may be (wrongly) interpreted that those folks are suggesting French is whatever.

That's not the thrust of any of the criticism.

You say that he is a piece of shit - that is a very vague description - do you know him - ever met him; if so, please elaborate to the specifics that lead you to this character assault
