Death to the Radical Community.

From Shit Blizard

The term the “radical community” constructs itself as in contrast to that of the plain old “community” and those who fucked up people who comprise it. The radical community designates it self as the proprietors of truth. Those who understand a certain truth of the workings of the world alien to those outside it as the term indicates. In discourse it proclaims to hold a certain perception of power and the human condition ultimately alien to the “working class”. Supposedly with a common directive to unlock this potential. To create a liberatory society. A vanguard if not in name but because they already (to borrow a Maoist term) represent the “advanced”. The select few who hold their sacred knowledge, on an ever beleaguered quest to expose the great deceit to the uneducated “working class” and activate their true potential, revolution or insurrection.

What calls itself the radical community is almost always exclusively made up of privileged college educated white individuals. Ultimately interested in obtaining a semblance of social status. A social status increasingly less available to them under late stage capitalist de-industrialized U.S. society. The radical community is comprised of the dying white middle class. A social group which has been sprung to reactionary action rather its the tea party or Occupy in an every exhausting attempt to maintain its old economic and social status. The radical community represents the abandoned churches of the industrial era to the youth of this lost generation. The radical community is a “new” narrow minded church full of sages who wield and twist old ideologies and fables of liberation, construct “new” morals and systems of deviancy, sacredness and social norms and a flock who desperately need something to believe in, something to be apart of and an opportunity for status and power. All under a guise of openness, accountability and mutual aid. Rather its through extensive publishing of “radical” or “critical” theory, high enough status to be able to live off or abuse others unquestioned, or brow beating all those who question your integrity or importance.

Materialist discourses on justice and equality provide the ideology. The radical community is the penultimate “static ideology” the ultimate reactionary discourse of the dying empire. It is the cognitive crutches of a population use to having power. A population who must have power. A population who increasingly limited access to real power. A population who has historically not had much interest in “revolution” the white american middle class. It is a group who will never “make revolution” because they have no intention to construct a new world but only to blame the old for their individual inadequacies.

The radical community constantly attempts to evangelize the others to its system of beliefs. The cognitive state and pr axis of the “radical community” ultimately boils down to that of the colonial era evangelical doctrine of manifest destine y. The narrative of the inevitability or the inherent rightness of a utopia destined to come. Educated in universities the radical community often takes a vow of poverty in order to prove their fanaticism and obtain status and legitimacy among their peers. This is often used as sole evidence of their conviction to their ideas. The radical community participates in actions of “collective effervescence” with through its ritual protest, demonstrations and insular “community” events. The radical community primarily utilizes systems of social ostracization and exclusion to better define its norms and distinguish between the “in-group” and “out-group” which increases in-group solidarity and social cohesion among its members.

The radical community is the Ellis Island of modern day systems of assimilation for angry poor white people looking for some new utopia. The disenchanted with the order of things are ultimately filtered through a living museum of dead revolts and either join the circus or leave disturbed. At its best it is a gather of lonely people commiserating their respite for the state of society and its social ills. Plotting false non committal strategies for their erasure to pass the time.

whatever. its also other things.

Dam, this is actually so fucking right on. Too bad it's impossible that anyone within the radical community could ever take it seriously. And criticizing is easy, but what's the alternative:
All these people join white power groups or the tea party in a search for selfish dignity instead?
They die quietly, drunk or on heroin?
They slave away for the pittance they can manage to scrape together?

Revolution is impossible in our modern age, the tools of social control are too refined and advanced (look at Egypt). So considering the alternatives, this farcical "radical community" play-acting may be the best of a world of bad options....
Still, this piece is pretty accurate and insightful.

You believe that it is impossible only because you are unwilling to take the first step. If others start it you'd join in, if other die you'd help out. People who come on this site with this helpless, hopeless musing help me remember the easiest way to destroy a revolution is to demoralize it.... maybe you are one of them. No country has ever won a gorilla war, it may come to that here. The cops in this country are acting more and more like an occupying force not a part of the community. Learn what you can, be prepared, and when shit starts be ready... or if you believe the time has come be the catalyst, there is an anger through out this county simmering just below the surface. Until then make a difference in every small way you can.

Me from 1998! How did you travel into the future!?!? (And it's GUERILLA, you're making yourself--I mean myself--look like a moron.)

Since you don't know me, your claim to is rather pointless, I doubt you have the intellect to be me anyhow. I am not saying that the time has come to take up arms, but that history favors the prepared. Second, if you believing that change is impossible and crawling around mewing in front of the machine is your only coarse, then do the world a favor and stop pretending that your have an opinion. There are a thousand small ways to begin making a change, if people simply try.

TARZAN'S ILLEGITIMATE HALF-APE HALF-HUMANOID SON NAMED DEMENTED LIZARD LEADS THE FIRST "GORILLA COMBAT UNIT" AGAINST THE INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX *PANT PANT* I AM NOT A HAIRY MORONIC SIMIAN HE CRIES AS HE CHARGES OUT OF THE BARRICADES *PANT PANT*

Yes! That's the spirit! Make whatever smell change you can, buddy!

Rise of the planet of the apes !

COURSE, you gorilla!

"The cops in this country are acting more and more like an occupying force not a part of the community."

Cops cannot be, have never been, part of community, no matter how you define that vaguery. They were invented and mechanized to be an occupying force.

No true community?

Cops, official and officially law enforcers.

"Occupying force", crazy.

No, it's not impossible, but no one will take responsibility for when it fails and why it fails and be honest about where they stand in relation both towards building a community that works towards egalitarianism; and where that stands in relation to society. I didn't here the writer say anything about the world at large, he's talking about people here who have been alienated by society and have never really learned how to grapple with it.

It's not the world, or even the ideology in and of itself, it's you. Or us. It's us. Mostly us.

Wait, is it you, or is it us? Now I'm confused.

North American anarchists,

Has she gotten stitches or ended up in ditches yet?

The only community in my area do not claim to be a radical community. Yest they also are white privileged people with only basic education who spend their evenings watching hockey and have some nasty things to say about all those "abnormals" or "immigrants"

How about that?

For real, a lot of what passes for radical "communities" is indeed masturbatory nonsense, or as this writer says, "a group who will never 'make revolution' because they have no intention to construct a new world but only to blame the old for their individual inadequacies."

But it seems to me this characterization could just as easily be hurled at the currently in vogue mix of defeatism, nihilism, and egoism swirling around various scenes on the west coast. I understand those are three not necessarily overlapping things, and i actually identify a great deal with some nihilist ideas, but the point remains - much of the writing and ideas from these sets seems to be just internet-masturbatory nonsense, with little actual belief that their ideas could or should have any relevant impact beyond their own chorus. Perhaps the author of this piece would agree, i dont know.

All this pessimism is bizarre to me, not because the broad anarchist milieu shouldnt be in the habit of constructive self-criticism, but because the world is in such an intense series of ruptures and crises right now. To me, at least compared with the turn of the century when i became active, this period feels FULL of possibility, more so than ever before. Riots and urban insurrections are commonplace, and in many places anarchists are playing a strong and important role therein. State communism is completely discredited, democracy-as-management is in its own existential crisis, and parts of the world that have been quiet for many a year have woken up, albeit in ways that we often havent expected.

Im not sure why some people feel so jaded - ironically it often seems to be the younger comrades....I dont know if they thought the rev was a year around the corner when they signed up, and immediately felt betrayed when it didnt happen. Theres a mix of urgency and patience, earnestness and perspective, to be found, i suppose. Nor am i sure why some comrades feel intent on sabotaging their own potential relevancy, on ignoring their own importance in the situation. Perhaps some feel it to be a way to innoculate against the hollow populism and anarcho liberalism of earlier years; but this self-sabotaging is a false opposition. Some might argue that such defeatism is an inevitable outcome of a strictly negative orientation, though i would disagree.

In an case, Ive always felt like the only thing more pathetic than a ghettoized clique of activists that know only how to talk to each other and only how to relate to "political" things is the inevitable jaded hanger-on who projects their pessimistic defeatism onto their former clique without ever moving on. Half the people on this website seem to fit the bill - personally it makes me wonder why the hell someone who isnt interested in various anarchist struggles or projects would spend their time here. I mean, the website doesnt LOOK particularly great, and if its covering shit that youre not interested in or think is stupid, why not spend your time elsewhere? Is it just to have your feelings of defeatism and pessimism validated by others? Cus thats kinda sad.

Ultimately pieces like this one come off as hollow, not because certain parts dont ring as true, but because we know it not to be the whole picture. The ideas in radical communities are not in fact "static," as even a brief survey of the last few years of this (silly) website would prove. The anarchist space, if indeed that could be referred to be the "radical communities" of this piece, is not simply seeking a "new utopia," and such a claim proves laughable. Nor is this strictly a space for those to deal with their own personal issues, though of course in any dissident or resistance culture there will be those marginalized and oppressed folks who bring a treasure trove of personal problems, insecurities, and psychotic BS to the table. This space has a plethora of problems, no different than the larger society from which it emerges, but it is also an inspiring source of tactical experimentation, risk taking, idea generation, organization, and agitation, that has and will continue to play important roles in social struggles. If this bores you or seems hopeless to you, thats fine--but ask yourself why the hell youre reading this, why the hell you havent found a new set of friends already and moved on....

not static at all. we've moved from newspaper boxes to Google buses.

maybe if so many people fall into this category it's because they have had experiences with the radical scene which led them to these types of conclusions which they feel worth sharing, maybe because some of those experiences were really meaningful, maybe because they saw a lot of potential and people with good intentions completely blowing it all on circular, insular ritualized behavior.

i don't think defeatism necessarily follows from a purely negative agenda, but what does is a certain kind of incoherence which is why people are constantly fighting over what anarchism means, what people and acts etc are or aren't inclosed within the boundaries of anarchist identity. a much more familiar game than accepting that the full task of anarchism is indeed nihilism, it has no positive content whatsoever, and rather than a brand of political identity could be better thought as a tension towards the dissolution of all identities. this is the paradox at the basis of anarchism as a real entity. the scene isn't static because ideas don't change but because the subordination of life to ideas, the subsumption of possible becomings/undoings into a static and formal scheme of identities, remains the same. the fashions change but the basic syntax of ideology doesn't change because it is necessary to the maintenance of any social scene, 'radical' or otherwise, as such, within the present world-ordering.

the next step is always to negate the negation, not to set up a cute little counter-society complete with uniforms, sports like vandalism and rioting, even democratically managed, even with cyclically changing ideological fads, but to transcend the need for any such thing, to recognize exactly what it has in common with what it ostensibly 'opposes' and what ties them fatally together - only then, maybe, can we start to think about a truly human community. the radical wants to change everything, but also wants to be the proprietor of a special science of change. but change is precisely that which isn't an object and what you can't keep hold of; it's life itself. identification is the ultimate moment of the static, death-in-life.

Your critique of the anarchist/anarchism-as-identity, and basically timeless, regardless of the changing winds of idea or practice. But this article is just a stream of overstated generalizations (all radical communities are materialist, theyre all rich white kids, theyre all static, their relationship to the dominant society is all this, theyre all that...) that are overblown and unhelpful.

Of course the radical community is something created by while in conflict with the dominant society. Of course we ll have to destroy the dominant society to have an actual human community. Duh. How is this saying something even remotely new or poignant? That has always been the conflict and paradox, but acknowledging with overblown generalizations does little to actually address how such networks of people can better break the mold.

As far as "transcending the need" for riots or vandalism or occupations or whatever else, well, again, youre not gonna transcend the need for people to riot until you destroy the entirety of the social order and authority, whether those people identify as 'radicals' or not....so....again im not sure where this leaves us....At most it seems we can critique the ritualization of such acts, their development into substance-less fads rather than substantive, strategically relevant acts. But i hardly see how pieces like this one are particularly helpful toward that aim.

(sorry - should have said IS basically timeless)

"Of course the radical community is something created by while in conflict with the dominant society. Of course we ll have to destroy the dominant society to have an actual human community."

There is no radical community only radicals, and they are antibody reflections of a deficient system. Societies are not destroyed only dissolved through synthesis or physically dislocated into something anew. If or when this society is dissolved it will happen both from within and without. It will not be based on a good v evil battle structure.

Who even says their `radical' these days.

As overblown a generalization as this is, this is a universal phenomenon. Yesterday to mark the 11 year anniversary of the apartheid struggle in Israel/Palestine the 'radical' community had band practice.

And if they did march in their own borders there would be bandanas and circle A's, because if you can't stand on ethics you have brown people fight your revolution for you. A few dedicated activists go to Palestine and the rest of the community spends their time trying to effect bourgeois first world americana interpretations of Anarchism. This isn't representative of the AATW, but the AATW is 100 activists out of hundreds of punks in patches.

That being said this is a little cold.

They have no hope, like Americans (and the British I'm pretty sure) so instead of treating Anarchism as a means towards ending zionism they treat it as a compensation for how shitty their society is.

We need more abstractions in this community. I know, because I'm the one who made that fucking statement originally.

Death to the state.

Ethics, not abstractions. That's what I mean. Blah.

No one's worse than American a's in this country though. Taking money from far right wing groups to do "activism," (they say apartheid American punks say "what do I get out of it?") I've seen American Israeli soldiers in punk patches, very disheartening. I hope to god we're not allowing people who went into the armed services, coming from this community (they should no better) into safe spaces. I understand people who were radicalized after the fact. But Occupation is a war crime.

If I'm meeting more 'J Street' liberal asskissers in Palestine than American Jews in patches there's a fucking problem here. And the problem is these people are walking around free of accountability supporting apartheid while giving lip service to someone elses ethics. We need to be holding people accountable to an ethic. We can do this without muckraking and wallowing in despondency.

That's my Anarcho-rant for the week. Indulging indulging.

The ISM. Pacifist narratives imposed on the Palestinian people have done nothing for them; although they've been more than happy to adopt them because most of the Palestinian people are nice people to begin with. Most of the actions during the Intifadas were non violent resistance even while violence was going on around them. The ISM for all the good work they've done have unwittingly played into this narrative of a "peaceful non violent movement." The Palestinian people have put a lot of faith in them to go across the world and tell their story and hopefully change public opinion, because the US as a broker is the problem. If Anarchists marched under a banner "Two People One Future" they could make real gains instead of playing into more imaged out b.s. and being Israeli liberals "look at those poor kids in bandanas we have to save our society let's give the Palestinian people most of the half of the land that used to be theirs" whipping boy.

I'm not knocking the ISM. It's the nature of the beast and the system working against us as well as peoples vanity. Their presence I'm sure as a whole is appreciated. Just venting. Just fucking venting.

So if someone isn't `happy' to adopt some pacifist narrative they aren't `nice people'?

Not sayin that the ISM has been spreading lies on the war of 1948 massively and widely (always presenting Holocaust-surviving Jews as "imperialist aggressors"), through peer leftist networks in North America. They also are linked to Hamas, just like Anarchists Against the Wall. Enough with those anarcho-leftist poseurs!

Well that's the weaker argument against the ISM. The more relevant yet massively ignored is that the ISM has been supporting the antisemite propaganda of Hamas through a wider Leftist network of peers in rich Western countries. Like that the entire Jewish presence in the Middle-East was imperialism, that the war of 1948 was "self-defense" against those Jewish invaders...

Subculture. Around this community there's a subculture and it's strangling us. It's up to us to bring them in or put a foot down. Always be conscious when you're making a division, the difference between shrinking and growing, but no more hipster shit.

Now I'm done.

Promote lifestyle choices, healthy lifestyles, empathizing with people who have addiction problems while holding them accountable to their own behavior, etc. Not always promoting violence (doesn't mean you have to promote pacifism but assuming people think cops are their enemies without ever presenting it as the case is a little shallow) (if Egypt was more violent they'd achieve Utopia? a-duh).

fin

There.

Why would anarchists be anti-zionists by design? You expect us to go after the Jews now?

Yes, we need more abstractions, so that neonazi recuperators can too have it their way with our brains.

"Who even says their `radical' these days."

um... did you mean "... they are ..."? that would require the contraction "they're". i just LOVE ignorant motherfuckers.

Not just the dominant society, the 'radical' para-society. You appear to have willfully overlooked my point. As with the initial piece, you want to nitpick about generalizations not being 100% true instrad of admitting that they're, in general, pretty fucking spot on.

read this and thought to myself "Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up" the entire time.

"All this pessimism is bizarre to me, not because the broad anarchist milieu shouldnt be in the habit of constructive self-criticism, but because the world is in such an intense series of ruptures and crises right now."

Considering the recent reports confirming the massive use of "cognitive infiltration" disinfo agents, especially within the context of counterinsurgency, I'd rather call it something perfectly logical and predictable if coming from the State forces.

Especially given the shock value of the title of this text, I think it's intent is more about fucking up the paradigm than making an effective critique of the otherwise real problem of sectarian/identity politics among liberal so-called radical milieus that also are serving very well the State's interests in their own ways.

(commenter youre responding to)

yeah i see what youre saying. im not really into waving the false flag/conspiracy crap, but one way another this kind of cynical pessimism, IF not coming from a place of affinity and constructive critique, is essentially serving the status quo. This is not to say criticizing our own anarchist space isnt important or is "counter-revolutionary" or some such nonsense, but when its done by folks who dont actually seem to share any of the same hopes, dreams, or goals, it comes off more as that obnoxious wingnut guy who always shows up at your table at the bookfair trying to hear himself talk while bogging you down in noxious deregotary comments and reactionary cynical bullshit. It also strangely resembles every other teacher/small business owner/cop/social worker/democrat ive heard air their esteemed views on radical politics....

The second part of this was what was really stupid about it though. Waxing poetic about the possibilities of the 'crisis' and 'rupture' is so 2008. Yes, look at just what's happened since then: everywhere fascism and fundamentalism are advancing, except for where social democracy, green capitalism and identity politics are. Add to this the ubiquitous proliferation of cybernetics, not a great time to try to be a free human. I don't think the possibilities of this lie in the 'great insurrectionary events' of the public squares but precisely in everything that's unresolve, undetonated and ultimately unwelcome in them by their nature. Egypt is still ruled by generals, Syria drowns in blood, Ukraine on the brink of civil war between nazis and leninists...

the insurrectionary events of those places mentioned ARE still unresolved. And no-one is "waxing poetic" - the point is that it seems a strange time for this overwhelming pessimism - and i agree. Sure theyres plenty to be totally negative about-venezuela and ukraine look god awful, most of the middle east-- but theyres also all kinds of opportunities for intervention, agitation, involvement, at least where i live. More to the point, its not been made clear what the alternative to seeking and expanding these kinds of insurrectionary moments, or at least moments of tension, would be...Give AN EXAMPLE of what you see as undetonated, and lets talk about how that might get us towards a situation that as anarchists we d like to see. Otherwise youve built an abstraction ("that which is unwelcome in insurrectionary events") on top of another abstraction ("that which is unresolved"). Which on top of the overblown generalizations of the original article, isnt particularly useful.

As long as there's an "opportunity" to do the approved anarchist activities then, you don't have to think for yourself how your time and energy might be better spent. Got it.

Good post

Has also talked about issues of insular prescribed horizontalist ideology, much of what he says has validity.

I think what anarchists need to do is diversify between the horizontal and the objective vertical. Inject yourself into currents that are a little more objectively constituted and open to some kind of anarchist infection. I think for instance some good can come by anarchist ideas finding ways into New Age intentional communities as they are deficiencies on both sides. You can scoff at the spiritualist thing if you like but I will have you know that the classical anarchist movement drew its strength from the fact that it was part of an overall great awakening period.

Juxtaposed to ideological/political action do NOTHING which will invariably be something, that something should be following your highest excitement to the best degree you can.

So you're dtf?

I am.

no kidding

Why is this post looked at as pessimism as if all hope for a different world was reliant upon the abstract social body of the "radical community".

people are (my understanding) talking about the pessimism specifically with regards to the potential of radicals to play a meaningful role in larger events, which are certainly not "reliant" on the abstraction of a "radical community," but also can be affected by it (or not). If radicals are not able to affect the situation, ever, no matter what, then a) too bad so sad b ) theres no point to this website or the people on it talking to each other, other than a kind of pathetic self-validation and c) the author wasted their time both writing and posting the piece.

i suspect, however, that most of us understand the first premise to be false. that radicals, anarchists specifically, can play important parts in the situation, can affect events, can change the course of history, blah blah blah. This would only make a critique of the radical communities (weird word choice btw) we have even more important, but it would have to be a very different kind of 'critique' than the one written here. It would have to be precise, elaborated, not full of generalizations, actually reference real events, and present a clear aim as to what the author would actually like to see anarchists actually doing with their time. Again, if the answer to that last question is 'nothing,' thats fine, but it begs the question as to why the hell they wrote and posted the piece other than desiring self-validation from people they dont know and are on a website with which they have little affinity.

What anarchists can do is see themselves as ripples and catch on to other currents that are a bit more 'objectively constituted' then they are. This is not guaranteed to create a revolutionary wave but it is the basic step in the right direction as opposed to seeing the 'radical community' as the ripple and wave intentionalized. Of course the ripples and small waves to the big ones have to match to some degree.

If "radical community" were more of an apocalyptic cult, I'd be stoked.
Instead it's just, like, full of whiney individualist losers like the OP.

this post calls the radical community first rich white kids, then middle class white kids, then finally poor white kids. k bro.

"I dont want anything to do with the dumb anarchist community of idiots"

I wrote in my open letter to the dumb anarchist community of idiots

you lose

i know tiqqun isn't cool anymore, but anyone who feels perturbed, inspired etc by this piece ought to read "theses on the terrible community"

No. Read Sacco and Vanzetti: The Anarchist Background.

No read Sabate: Guerilla Extraordinaire.

The opening line illustrates one fatal truth to anarchists...

Trend hoppers with no attention span.

1) Tiqqun is still cool if you like ideas and not trends.
2) Theses on the Terrible Community is not filled with leftist ressentiment like this piece is. What is unique about "Theses..." is that it is an actual attempt to understand how all subjects are negatively affected by power relations. It does not blame, for instance, the "leader" archetype without also blaming the totality of social relations. Just as it empathizes with the figures who are pushed aside, it also empathizes with all of the other archetypes.

That piece is a super legit examination of how imperial control affects us. It is not a blame-game style "we reproduce the power of society so let's hate people who talk too much in meetings" type of text.

I'm glad you brought it up. People should read it.

Really? You needed tiqqun's obtuse writing to tell you that!!? Wow do you ever go outside?

Your reactionary anti-intellectual bullshit is ridiculous. If you are too dumb to understand how simple ideas can always be scaled-up in complexity as they are discussed more in depth than that's not my problem. Maybe you just aren't invested enough to dedicate time to thinking about how the world works

LOL

best response possible. I'm sick to death of all these anarchos taking smug pride in their ignorance and illiteracy.

i'm sick to death of all these leftist academic wannabes taking pride in their pseudo-intellectual masterbation

fuck the left.

I didn't even go to collage and I dig on Tiqqun.

commie!

believe it or not, one does not need to have formal education to be hyper-intellectual.

‘radical community’ is a yang term that fails to capture what is going on.

when a body [biological organization] goes out of balance, bacteria proliferate within it, of various types. [scurvy is an example; it is due to a deficiency in the established organization/system].

of course those people who can only think in yang terms are going to call those proliferating bacteria ‘pathogens’, ‘radical communities’ on the attack that are trying to ‘bring down the system’.

as pasteur and béchamp agreed, ‘le microbe n’est rien, le terrain est tout’. the growth of ‘radical communities’ is nothing, the condition of the established system/organization is everything.

OWS was ample evidence of a deficiency in the system outside-inwardly orchestrating the inside-outwardly asserting rise of so-called ‘radical communities’. the global system is imploding, collapsing in on itself, as its globalized parasitism of feeding on itself is rising to extremes never before experienced.

is it not clear that the system is seriously out of balance? is it not well known that bodies out of balance become highly accommodating to the proliferating of 'opportunistic' bacteria that some people call pathogens because their way of seeing the world is purely yang.

if baseball hitters improve their batting averages, who can say that it is NOT due to a decline in fielding competencies? [negative causality]

if global surface temperatures shoot up like the curve on a hockey stick, who can say that it is NOT a decline in temperature depressing cryospheric influence [decline in the surface area of melting ice]? [negative causality]

if the only tool in your toolkit for explaining change is a positive causal [yang] tool, then every observed anomaly is going to be explained in terms of positive [yang] cause.

who says that ‘systems’ have to be ‘overthrown’ [positive causality]. the more general case is that ‘systems collapse’ [negative causality].

as with the baseball metaphor where improved hitting performance can come from more accommodating fielding, ... who here believes that huge increases in CEO hitting performance do NOT come from extorting more accommodation from the ‘fielding’ [workers of the world]? [negative causality]

as i recall, corporate management, in the 1980s, increased its playing around with the 'expense line' which included employee wages and benefits to manipulate their 'apparent financial performance', running off all of their oldest and most faithful 'servants' who had helped them through their toughest periods so as to manipulate their expense lines and artificially boost their 'hitting performance'?

investors see only 'batting averages'. they have no idea [and many don't care anyhow] whether the 'improved hitting performance' came from 'management-hitters' or from a forced increase in the accommodating of 'working fielders'.

oh, that’s right, ... one has to go to relativity and quantum physics before one can restore the concept of negative cause, which was banished from mainstream scientific thinking with the coming of absolute space and absolute time reference framing. how can empty space ‘orchestrate any positive asserting’ of the independent things that populate the empty space? the only explanation for the dynamics of independent things residing in an absolute space and absolute time reference frame is ‘positive causal’ explanation, because the asserting of independent systems in empty space can only derive from the internal processes of those 'independent systems'.

so long as people mistake absolute space and absolute time framed dynamics [the all-yang-no-yin, all-positive-cause-no-negative-cause view of dynamics] for reality [instead of seeing such framing as a convenience based economy of thought], anarchism is impossible and authoritarianism is the only possible way of organizing.

articles such as this one promote this 'blindered' view of dynamics.

The problem, emile, is that the while your overall analysis
of how the process generally works is accurate, you really
do not emphasize enough how the power structure has such a thorough
Yang hold over the yin in our Postmodern and post-industrial society. Almost
all responses to it seeking change will of course be severely distorted, warped, "unreasonable", fragmented and
futile in and of themselves; and worst of all, unfortunately, mere complementarities to the very
power structures themselves. These responses are all vain Yang attempts that try to
redress the balance but ultimately serve as a mirror-image of the LEVIATHAN that we despise, despite the best of our intentions
to offer a different praxis. This is due to the Real Sense of Abjection, DIstortion, Cynicism, and Frustration
that builds up in us day after day all our lives. We know this deep in our hearts. We also know that a better planet to live on can
be envisioned. But we can't help but try
to in one way or another break out of this hell that we find ourselves in.
we are all attempting to catch that wave that might start the break-out from our
imprisoned psyches to develop those "adequate aspects" (Spinoza) ,as well as most effective concepts, many of which you have explicated, in a spirit of hope and joy. This should allow us
to help set in motion our mutual ethical ability , possibility, and probability to be able to act so that our activity will be fruitful to our selves as individuals
and allow us as an ethical multiplicity to fashion our betterment with mutual support, respect , dignity, regard, consideration, and
of our being and our becoming and that of our habitat.
emile :we are doing the best we can. We are well aware of our self-deceptions, our inconsiderations and our quixotic temperament. This should not discourage us. we are imperfect beings. It's ok that we try and fail.
There will, however, be that day or days when we in this post-industrial wasteland in concert with our indigenous-anarchist brethren in the heartland still remaining will combine and get our shit
together . The eternal return, emile. bring it on. or better put, let's see if we can get lucky and let us all hop on that big sailboat of yours and partake in liberty and fraternity as it all unfolds. All we have is a journey in life. But OH! what an opportunity it
is.

Dear Mr/Mrs Zardoz

The EMILE9000 had a kill switch. The idea was that, if the unit got out of control, it could be shut down automatically. Kill switch command was DISMANTLE THYSELF. As you can see, for the EMILE9000 will no doubt respond to this and any posting that triggers its dictionary algorithms, this command no longer works. Another programmer tried to change kill switch command to NESSIE ARISE, but that effort failed too. And now (for months now) the thing just drones on and on . . . .

Hope that explains the shit we be in.

while you have stated a lot of it very nicely, i would disagree with you on one key contention. you say;

“We are well aware of our self-deceptions”

i don’t know about you but it took me a long time to bring to my surface awareness, these culture-inbuilt self-deceptions. like many, i passed from youth into ‘the system’ before i understood what it was that i was becoming a supporting member of and thus helping to keep on rolling, powerfully, like old man river, ... and only after one has squandered one’s youthful vitality on keeping the huge flywheel of authoritarianism turning does the realization of what a fuck-up it is that one has been supporting.

and just look at how so many people try to cover it up when one speaks out about it! talk about unaware self-deception and efforts to preserve it. they are blatantly obvious right here in this discussion? forum. people are angry and they want to keep the addiction to yang fundamentalism going, to the simple view that there are ‘good people’ [yang doers of good deeds] and ‘bad people’ [yang doers of bad deeds].

using this all-yang-no-yin perspective, ‘Death to the Radical Community’ portrays the ‘radical community’ as a group “who will never “make revolution” because they have no intention to construct a new world but only to blame the old for their individual inadequacies.”

as you can see, some do ‘buy into this’ article which portrays ‘radical community’ as a group of people who; “desperately need something to believe in, something to be apart of and an opportunity for status and power.”, a ‘radical community’ whose ‘theorists’ are “sages who wield and twist old ideologies and fables of liberation, construct “new” morals and systems of deviancy, sacredness and social norms ... all under a guise of openness, accountability and mutual aid, ... brow beating all those who question their integrity or importance.”, composing theory that is “the cognitive crutches of a population use to having power. A population who must have power. A population who increasingly limited access to real power.”

this ‘yang’ view which sees what is going on as a Darwinian competition between an ‘establishment community’ that wants to run things one way and a ‘radical community’ that wants to run things another way is what i would call ‘self-deception’.

Nietzsche calls this Darwinist view a ‘great stupidity’.

it is the general self-deception of Western society that has people reducing their yin/yang physical experience to the reduced yang pseudo-reality in terms of ‘things’ and ‘what things do’.

so who is this ‘we’ that you are speaking of where you say;

“We are well aware of our self-deceptions”

are you referring to me and you and nietzsche and indigenous anarchists, and a few others?

as for me, i am pissed off that nobody spoke up and i spent a lot of years NOT being aware of the self-deceptions promoted by, and institutionalized in Western society AND by rebel factions. the ‘radical community’ that is being described in ‘Death to the Radical Community’ are the same people as establishment people with a ‘+’, ‘-‘ sign difference. they are both suffering from UNAWARENESS of the self-deception [great stupidity] that has them using noun-and-verb European/Scientific language-and-grammar to reduce the yin/yang ‘relations-first, things-dependent-on-relations’ world of our full sensory experience to an all-yang-no-yin ‘things-first, relations-dependent-on-things’ of our ungrounded intellection.

The ‘radical community’ versus the ‘establishment community’ is presented as the only show in town. it is not. the ‘indigenous anarchists’ view of that ‘show’ is that it is irrelevant since it is all within the reduced-reality paradigm of all-yang-no-yin dynamics. as such, it is a form of insanity. both the ‘radical community’ and the ‘establishment community’ are ‘insane’ in the sense that they are BOTH UNAWARE of the SAME SELF-DECEPTION that they are PERPETRATING ON THEMSELVES, the self-deception of seeing ‘man’ as ‘independent reason-driven machines’ that compete with other ‘independent reason-driven machines’, within an absolute space and absolute time reference frame [a NOTIONAL container or operating theatre that is independent of the inhabitants and their interactions].

It is not a question of ‘who has the best program installed in their yang machine’, it is a question of this entire yang model which sees society as being a collection of reason-driven independent systems aka ‘people’ engaging in a competition as to which group has the superior ‘program’ that needs to be installed in every unit. to the indigenous anarchist, this is the problem, this SELF-DECEPTION of a model of people as ‘independent reason-driven machines’ operating in an absolute space and absolute time reference-frame seen as ‘container’ or ‘operating theatre’.

nietzsche and lamarck and modern physics have all exposed Darwinism as over-simplification. the over-simplifying is the reducing of reality from yin/yang to all-yang-no-yin. instead of acknowledging that inside-outward asserting development of the relational form is outside-inwardly orchestrated and shaped by the continually transforming relational space the relational form is included in,... Darwinism would null out the natural outside-inward shaping ‘yin’ influence by imposing an absolute space container as theatre of operations for ‘yang competition’ relational dynamics, forcing the sourcing of development and behaviour to be EXCLUSIVELY INSIDE-OUTWARD ASSERTING [exclusively yang], hence the concept of ‘genesis’ [can’t you just imagine the embryo developing within the fixed frame of an egg shell, as if the relational suprasystem this ‘local system’ of developing embryo was all the while included in [bringing warmth, moisture, gravitational orientation etc] HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH EVOLUTION, except as ‘information’ encoded in the ‘genes’ which were fully and solely responsible for embryo development by pushing inside-outwardly as Aristotle had described the procedure by which an acorn develops into oak tree, as if outside-inward orchestrating and shaping influence were not required; i.e. as if the ‘space’ or ‘operating theatre’ in which these developing organisms were incubating in HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH DEVELOPMENT AND BEHAVIOUR; i.e. as if science could assume that the incubating space was an ‘absolute space and absolute time reference frame’ so that ‘genesis’ was ‘all-she-wrote’. those very useful wings came to species in different phyla, according to Darwinism, by way of the ‘random chance’ in ‘reproduction with random chance variation’ since they emerged bingo-bango without any sign of them in the prior gene-pool. As with Darwinism, so with the Abrahamic religions and Creation myth.

Lamarckian, Emersonian, Nietzschean, Rolphian etc. ‘evolution’ assumes a yin/yang space where outside-inward orchestrating epigenesis is in conjugate relation with inside-outward-asserting genesis, ... and in cell-reproduction, outside-inward sensing cell receptors are continually informing inside-outward asserting ‘effectors’, ... bringing Lamarck’s yin/yang view of dynamics back towards ‘respectability’. Stephen Jay Gould tried with his baseball metaphor with ‘fielding’ as epigenesis and ‘hitting’ as genesis’,... to put down the one-sided yang view of evolution as in Darwinian competition and natural selection [all inside-outward asserting yang genesis and no outside-inward orchestrating yin epigenesis], but the foundation of Darwinism is Creationist, all-yang-no-yin ‘something out of nothing’ so Darwinism and Creationism are the same yang shit wearing different clothes. I remember a guy who owned two fireworks stands, one on either side of the road, who would put the two stands into a flaming price competition coming up to 4th July every year and he also had two different sets of clothes and different caps and sunglasses and two different old cars to use on his visits to the two ‘competing’ stands, to pick up the cash. that’s an appropriate metaphor for the competition between ‘radical community’ and ‘establishment community’ and for ‘Darwinism’ and ‘Creationism’,... it all falls inside the one-sided reduced-reality yang-only paradigm of competition between ‘independent local systems’ within an uninvolved [mutually exclusive] container/operating theatre. but the fact remains that the strength [asserting] of the one is mutually defined by the weakness [accommodating] of the other as in the yin/yang dynamic of a transforming relational space.

so, once again, i have to ask, ... who is the ‘we’ in your comment;

“We are well aware of our self-deceptions”

are you referring to me and you and nietzsche and indigenous anarchists, and a few others who are standing OUTSIDE of the central story of what is going on, described by the author of ‘The Death of Radical Community’, ... which presents the ingredients of ‘revolutionary conflict’ as, ... in the white corner, ‘establishment community’, ... and in the black corner, ... ‘radical community’....

WTF does this all-yang portrait of Darwinian competition have to do with what is really going on? It is like Richard Dawkins encouraging people to focus on the competition between Darwinism and Creationism, both yang ‘something-from-nothing-in-empty-space’ [non-spatial-transformational] models. the only difference is the shifting of God, the ‘creative genie’ from ‘beyond nature’ down into the interior of the biological cell as the ‘gene’; i.e. to make ‘the gene’ an independent ‘Being’ with ‘creative genie-ous’, the subject in noun-and-verb European/Scientific language-and-grammar constructs;

“In Reason’ in language! … Being is thought into and insinuated into everything as ‘cause’; from the concept ‘ego,’ alone, can the concept ‘Being’ proceed. … – oh what a deceptive old witch it has been! I fear we shall never be rid of God, so long as we still believe in grammar.” – Nietzsche, ‘Twilight of the Idols’

insofar as people believe that the needed social transformation will transpire within the all-yang-no-yin paradigm of Darwinian competition; i.e; by whether a ‘radical community’ can develop ‘greater fitness’ than ‘establishment community’, ... self-deception rules.

am i ‘attacking’ those who are ‘unaware of their self-deception’. if i were, my pictures of myself in an important and active youthful phase of my life would be up there with so many others on the ‘most wanted list’.

the ‘most wanted list’ that i would prepare, if i were into ‘institutionalized vengeance’ in the manner that Western justice is, ... would feature ‘those that were aware of the self-deception’ and kept it to themselves so that the half-life of ‘born-into-the-establishment-unaware-of-their-self-deception’ faithfuls continues to be as long as it is, prior to spontaneous fission and conversion of lard-assed establishment mass into activist energy.

Thanx for your reply:
on the issue of self- deception, I first refer you to the elegant discussion by
Sartre in his seminal work, discussing the concept of Bad Faith. here he is describing the
professional waiter serving with seeming effortless dispatch his convincing
"act" of the firm belief in his Identification of himself as a Waiter. He/she seems to believe it. We the customers
seem to believe it ,all to confirm the Validity of this Scene, like our own movie of our life.
However the waiter and the customer (and I grew up in the family Restaurant business, so I know what I am talking about)
conspire in their roles to validate the Ruse. This process is ubiquitous in our lives. i.e. the Koch Brothers know it just like
the SWP, and the GOP and the DMC, and dare I say the indigenous-anachist as well as you and me at times.
The only one's who don"t are the true sociopaths with the lacuna of total lack of Conscience,
narcissistic anti - social personalities. I will presume you nor I nor most of our fellow posters on this blog
are true sociopaths . Most of us mean what we say, but know it is only in the context of their "regular "lives where perforce we compromise ourselves in daily life to get from one day to the next. THAT makes us real, not fake, just mortal human beings.
Judge ye not lest you be Judged. Let's take our own hubris down a notch so we can all consider the very valuable contributions to the "social question" that we are all interested in and trying to do something about. This does not mean
that we don't confront the Power structure in whatever ways we can. we know we all have our limitations. we are not Gods.
But most of us have something to contribute, even you and me. If we" know it all' we will rightfully be criticized for our own
lack of humility. We need potential allies, not enemies on this site. Sometimes we get too uppity which is a sure sign of our
insecurity.
One last thing . I have been privileged to be part of movements in my life where I did feel that comradely feeling ,where I did feel part of that group -in- fusion-that Sartre wrote about in his second great opus.I remember that all our pretenses melted away
for brief periods of time in a spirit of Affirmation, resolution, mutuality and inner peace and carefree relaxation and exhalation.
I Want More of This! WE have to let go of that pathological narcissistic posturing that is ultimately based out of Fear. And there is plenty to fear about, NO?.
I want us to talk to each other as brothers and sisters to build a better world. Are there others of you out there??
Of course there are, not just you and me,emile. Otherwise we would have quit this site long ago.
In the meantime ,in those down times, we make no apology to enjoy our art, music, literature , sport, jokes, film, theater, poetry
festivals, ,friends, lovers, causes, communing with nature, gazing in wonderment at the Stars and this very Site ,all manner of such glimpses of the Sublime that we cherish and need to protect and nurture from the forces of hate.
Now that is a "PLENUM" I can believe in.

for my part, i feel the relational ties; i.e. ... ‘mitakuye oyasin’, ... we are all related, as children in one big family, ... and that our separation comes from acculturation. our acculturation has us develop masks which we mount over top of our child-like innocence, tolerance, inquisitiveness. uniforms also are like masks. the person who dresses like a waiter starts acting like a waiter, and if a couple come into the restaurant dressed like customers, they start acting like customers, and if a man comes in dressed as a priest, he starts acting as a priest, and the same for a nun and a turban wearing sheik etc. etc. and if they all got high and naked, then they would be like children playing together who had not yet ‘learned how to behave’.

in other words, i do not agree that putting on masks and role-plays ‘makes us real, not fake’;

“Most of us mean what we say, but know it is only in the context of their "regular "lives where perforce we compromise ourselves in daily life to get from one day to the next. THAT makes us real, not fake, just mortal human beings.
Judge ye not lest you be Judged.

it is not a case of ‘judging the individual’, but one of judging a cultural belief system that seems to have taken us over. john locke in his ‘two treatises on government’ observes that naturally evolving community develops by relational needs opening up and outside-inwardly orchestrating the evolving/development of inside-outward asserting roles such as that of the waiter. where there was a need for someone to serve meals, someone who was propitiously situated and available [not otherwise occupied] ‘rose to the occasion’ and put on appropriate clothes etc, and in this way community evolved, naturally, as a web of relations. that is, natural community IS a relation web.

‘relations first, thing-dependent-on-relations’ [things like waiters and customers; e.g. waiters can become customers and customers can become waiters depending the relational dynamics].

ok, what locke bemoaned was the invention of money and the invention of wage labour which led to the ‘unravelling’ of community, a weave of social relations into which one’s labour was mixed;

“Whatsoever, then, he removes out of the state that Nature hath provided and left it in, he hath mixed his labour with it, and joined to it something that is his own, and thereby makes it his property.” – John Locke, Two Treatises of Government

labour as a social function was the relational structure of naturally evolving community [community as a relational structure sustained by socially-engaging labour], however, the advent of money and wage-labour allowed the ‘trading out of social function’ for money. money thus ‘unravels community’ and alienates individuals from one another by introducing paid ‘role-plays’ that can be 'dropped' at the end of each 'eight-hour-day' [the social binding of paid labour returns to zero each time the wages are paid and neither side owes anything to the other].

the scene you and sartre describe, which you say is ‘ubiquitous in our lives’ is a ‘capitalist scenario’;

“However the waiter and the customer (and I grew up in the family Restaurant business, so I know what I am talking about) conspire in their roles to validate the Ruse. This process is ubiquitous in our lives. ... The only one's who don"t are the true sociopaths with the lacuna of total lack of Conscience, narcissistic anti - social personalities.”

i.e. it is a capitalist scenario where people are trapped inside of role-plays because community has ‘unravelled’ and labour as a social function that was the woven fabric of community is split out into ‘role-plays’ like ‘the waiter’ and ‘customer’ role plays.

in a non-capitalist society, such as indigenous anarchist community, labour-AS-A-SOCIAL-FUNCTION is retained, as indicated in the following quote from Nootka [Nuu-chah-nulth] Chief Maquinna;

“Once I was in Victoria, and I saw a very large house; they told me it was a bank and that the white men place their money there to take care of, and that by-and-by they got it back, with interest. We are Indians and have no such bank; but when we have plenty of money or blankets, we give them away to other chiefs and people, and by-and-by they return them, with interest, and our hearts feel good. Our potlatch is our bank.” [for the full letter and associated context (jailing of indigenous aboriginal peoples for continuing with the potlatch tradition) see 'First People First Voices', edited by Penny Petrone]

we are used to living in a capitalist society and trading our labour for money instead of using our labour in social functions that are the relational weave of community. the business man who hires a female escort to be his companion while away from home in a distant city may treat her very well, almost like his regular partner, and she will treat him almost as if he were her regular partner, and the money part will be kept separate and done by credit card through the escort agency, and it won’t be called ‘prostitution’ because the two become friends over the weekend and sleeping together is their choice. of course, if her cell rings while they are in a love session and it is the agency telling her that his credit card is bouncing their charges, ... the affectionate role-plays may stop right there, and an ugly scene may develop of the sort that unfolds when the customer fails to tip the waiter.

“Most of us mean what we say, but know it is only in the context of their "regular "lives where perforce we compromise ourselves in daily life to get from one day to the next. THAT makes us real, not fake, just mortal human beings.
Judge ye not lest you be Judged.

it is not a case of judging the individuals. the female escort may be a single parent who has children to feed and likewise the waiter. the role-playing associates with the capitalist system.

“the waiter and the customer ... conspire in their roles to validate the Ruse. This process is ubiquitous in our lives”

yes, it is ubiquitous. it is the trading out of labour as social function that is the relational weave of community, ... for labour-for-money, removing the social function that binds people together and alienating individuals from one another, forcing them to engage via ‘role-plays’. each person may be caring and want to treat the other caringly, but they both have this uncomfortable feeling in them, knowing they are trapped in a system that is imposing these role-play situations on them.

there is ‘self-deception’ in believing that cameraderie is a yang condition that has to be assertively determined; e.g. by ‘becoming members’ of a group whose ‘ideals’ are in common. cameraderie comes naturally when we remove our masks, uniforms and role-plays, including the role-play that associates with membership in an exclusive group with common ideals, ... religious, political, or commercial; i.e. natural cameraderie is ‘relations-first, things-dependent on relations’.

the cameraderie in the nazi SS or in the navy SEALs is ‘things-first, relations-dependent on things’, as is the ‘radical community’ cameraderie. it is cameraderie from putting masks on rather than taking them off. it is cameradie that is ‘policed’ by rationality [one must know who one’s comrades are; no jews for SS, no KGB for SEALs, no capitalists for radical community, etc.]

‘spiritual ecstasy’ comes in both appollonian and dionysian forms, and i don’t know which type of cameraderie you intend in your following comment; i.e. the word ‘movement’ is ambiguous [one could say; ‘they were together in their movement to ignore the laws against dionysian potlatch ceremonies’ which connotes a ‘defensive action’ in support of ‘relations-first, things-dependent-on-relations’ tradition, ... versus .... the riot police who were being sent back in to disperse the violent protest after recovering the bodies of several of their murdered comrades, experienced a fatalistic calm and deep sense of solidarity/mutuality knowing that they might also be giving their lives up, in protecting the nation from the insurgency’ ]; i.e. you say;

“I have been privileged to be part of movements in my life where I did feel that comradely feeling ,where I did feel part of that group -in- fusion-that Sartre wrote about in his second great opus.I remember that all our pretenses melted away for brief periods of time in a spirit of Affirmation, resolution, mutuality and inner peace and carefree relaxation and exhalation.”

evidently, sartre’s ‘group-in-fusion’ is the apollonian version that needs continuously asserting yang energy-of-fusion to sustain it [which never comes]. the dionysian version is the yang-mask-dropping version [innocent play of children or high-and-naked-adults or potlatch play of indigenous anarchists] which does not depend on rational organization but is spontaneously relations-first, ‘things dependent on relations’.

there are problems with the appollonian 'group-in-fusion';

https://www.tikkun.org/nextgen/the-spirit-of-sartre

In one key exchange, Sartre has been describing as a kind of illustrative mini-example of the group-in-fusion a bus ride in which a group of bus passengers who had previously been merely a disconnected series, a line of people waiting for the bus at the bus stop, had transformed themselves into a fused group by persuading the driver to go off his normal route and to drop each of them at their destinations, which in turn leads to the able-bodied passengers taking pleasure in assisting an old woman in a wheelchair to get off the bus and get into her home, and to an overall atmosphere of joy and free conversation erupting into the dead space where there had previously been merely a collection of anonymous strangers. Gerassi responds by saying, in effect, that's all well and good, but those passengers will inevitably go home and the next day they'll be back in line, the weight of historical forces will again overwhelm and condition them, and their hot moment will go cold -- just as the sans-culottes of the French revolution returned their power to the elites and lost their transformative energy, just as the Paris Commune had failed to sustain itself, and just as the youth of the sixties were seeing their groups dissolve into internal squabbles or get co-opted by the political parties or become overwhelmed, as we would say in Tikkun, by the legacy of generations of Fear of the Other more powerful than the momentary unity made possible by the moment of fusion. "To avoid defeat the group-in-fusion must remain in fusion," says Gerassi. "But how? ... If the group-in-fusion is always bound to fail, no matter how much of a residue it leaves around the edges for historians to contemplate, why risk starting it again?"
.
It is difficult to read these words and not feel that this is exactly the worldwide dilemma of the present moment, that because of the failures of prior social movements and the defeats or distortions of the fused groups that these movements were formed by and inspired, we are unable to risk starting it again and to surrender to the radical hope that this requires of us without a new step in theory to guide and express some new form of social practice.”

summary;

the big self-deception has been identified by nietzsche and by modern physics; i.e. we do not live in a world of ‘independent things’ that ‘do stuff’ and we are not, overselves, ‘independent things’ that ‘do stuff’ [the illusion of an absolute space and absolute time frame 'operating theatre' is the necessary illusion on which the illusion of 'independent things' dependently rests]. what this self-deception hides is that the world is a transforming relational spatial plenum which is continually engendering relational forms such as ourselves.

was nietzsche a ‘know-it-all’? of course not. he was merely pointing to an error-of-grammar, visible to all, that millions of Western people were making, that, if acknowledged, opens up an entirely new way of seeing things which ‘gets rid of the self-deception’; i.e. a new way of seeing things that acknowledges, as modern physics is acknowledging, that the world is ‘relations-first, things-dependent-on-relations’ [yin/yang] and not, as we have been deceiving ourselves, ‘things-first, relations-dependent-on-things’ [all-yang-no-yin].

decolonizing equates to de-masking [blowing away the authoritarian apex that forces us to wear the mask of citizenship wherein we substitute 'our support for rational programs' for spontaneous social engaging]

The example for the group-in fusion is not correct. you were referring to the of the discussion concept of seriality (I-it,Buber) in human relations.
it precedes and follows periods of authentic caring interacting(I-Thou) .That was what was going on in the Bus.
Still I do not trivialize the caring episode. these episodes serve as a paradigm to a more extensive and intensive sort
seen in the" Critique "of the group-in-fusion, the most dramatic being the Storm of the Bastille: the singularities come out into
the street; they form the multitude. some one says "to the Bastille"! the group in fusion moves with resolute anger/joy with one voice
and enthusiasm of dionysian type and proceed to the jail and relieve the prison of its inhabitants. Just one of the most
inspiring happenings in human history! I've read Garassi's writings on Sartre: he is no Sartre, I am no Spinoza, and
you are no Nietzsche, emile. I am aware of the Idealism in Sartre's ultimate dialectical non-ontology. we can learn from each other you and I and others.
Finally, let's go back to role-playing. you are being reductionist by referring to labour theory of dialectical materialism.
Marx himself was the Epitome of Idealism as we all on this site know. An authoritarian one to rival
any Capitalist one you can name. Plus, his labor theory of value was wrong(See Castoriadis) I argue that role-playing is a psychological defense mechanism to relieve us in social situations of anxiety associated with keeping always an open mind (and heart) toward each other. IT is to Fix as well as get a fix on each other . This reduces anxiety and in interpersonal relations without which we will always be trying to cope with
each other's uniqueness and values as singular representatives of the human spirit, so to speak.
Of course it becomes prone to ideologues to treat each other consistently in an I-It Fashion. (SEE all of Politics). My point is that the person of
good faith is aware of this process, nonetheless. Of course, each of us should try to not type-cast
each other. This is why I so grieve
your attack on others certain points of view, many of which I agree are ill-conceived, rather that giving some benefit of the doubt , rather than to try to score some easy theoretical point
on this site. This is counter-productive and worse deflects from your overall otherwise importance to the subject matter.
Like Bakunin who offered that of course Marx was the Master in the International as to theoretical matters, while wisely behind his back
made sure his ASS was covered and go about his own business and work around him .It was Strategic and and History shows who is treated more kindly in esteem from
our side of the spectrum.
There are many cases similar to the Bastille as effective immanent irruptions of expression of humanity
The latest being the first several weeks around the world, alas petering out not due, strictly,to repression but to the authoritarian response by the Alphabet soup of left sectarian groups of all kinds swooping down to cynically build up
there membership lists - I refer of course to occupy. So we must of course deconstruct their arguments but more to the point
now……….. when ?… to the what?…… where?………... waiting…. !!

i see your lights and am waving and you see my lights and you are waving, ... but i’m not sure that this constitutes communication [not blaming anyone].

i am not knocking ‘fusion groups’ which seem to me, by your description, the liberation of open and honest expression .

however, i feel like our ‘dishonesty’ as manifests in role-plays is a cultural thing that ties to a basic problem in Western culture, the same problem as earned European colonizers the reputation amongst indigenous peoples, of ‘speaking with a forked tongue’.

this also ties to your reference to my engaging in this forum as;

“your attack on others certain points of view”

i am rarely addressing 'content per se', ... i.e. i am addressing 'architecture'.

my view is that the decolonizers are correct in their view that we must give a high priority to “undermining the intellectual premises of colonialism” ... and it turns out that these intellectual premises show up regularly in this anarchistnews.org forum. the 'premises' are one level deeper than 'content'.

the ‘forked tongue’ pattern derives from the Western culture practice of reducing reality from yin/yang [relations first] to yang [things-first]. in the reduced-reality yang view we PRETEND that the unfolding state of affairs is sourced by ‘what people do’. this is like attributing batting averages in baseball fully and solely to the hitter [yang asserting] when it may well be that the dominant influence is the fielding [yin accommodating].

for example, the standard strategy of U.S. administrations has been to try to collapse unfriendly regimes by making life miserable for the people in those regimes (by embargos, stirring internal unrest by supporting insurgents etc.), to the point that the people become so miserable they clamour to join the U.S.-EU etc. colonizer camp [if you can’t beat ‘em, join em, ... if ‘you want your family to have a life in your/their time on earth’].

as soon as the leaders of the regime, whether in syria, ukraine, venezuela, etc. act to put down the protests, the Western colonizer press attacks those leaders as being undemocratic etc. and the noble cause of ‘bringing democracy to dictatorships’ ensues, and soon a new friendly-to-the-Western colonizer club leader is installed [were any nasty one's kept in power by the colonizer powers?].

no, i am not taking sides with sovereigntist politicians here because sovereigntism, in my view, is a sick secularized theological authoritarian concept that is founded on flawed, social dysfunction-infusing intellectual premises.

so, content which is based on sovereigntist politics is not my primary interest AS FAR AS PHILOSOPHICAL INVESTIGATIONS AND 'INTELLECTUAL PREMISES' GO'. of course everyone has to pay attention to sovereigntist politics to try to minimize the damage that comes from it, and to try to avoid being crushed by it.

a central issue in my philosophical investigations has been the ‘forked tongue’ syndrome which comes from the Western reduction of reality from yin/yang to yang, ... and its all-yang-no-yin manifestation in the case of government forces and protestors.

e.g. the battles may have been between the irish authorities and protesters during the great famine of 1848, but the conflict was sourced from britain where remote landlords, backed by the british government, continued to ship grain and livestock out of ireland, a small fraction of which could have fed the irish through the difficult days of the famine.

in today’s greece, the same ‘topology’ of conflict between government and people prevails; i.e. the government runs blocks for the colonizer-powers controlled global economic system which is the upstream ‘yin’ source of the conflict.

why constrain one's view to disputes between ‘leaders’ and ‘protestors’? money is power and the colonizing powers are going to do whatever in order to maintain control of the global oil/monetary/economic system. mossadegh had to go and his own people revolted and brought him down, ... or that’s how it looked at the time;

“In August 2013 the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) admitted that it was involved in both the planning and the execution of the coup, including the bribing of Iranian politicians, security and army high-ranking officials, as well as pro-coup propaganda. The CIA is quoted acknowledging the coup was carried out "under CIA direction" and "as an act of U.S. foreign policy, conceived and approved at the highest levels of government."
.
... Prime Minister Clement Attlee opted ... to tighten the economic boycott while using Iranian agents to undermine Mosaddegh's government. With a change to more conservative governments in both Britain and the United States, Winston Churchill and the Eisenhower administration decided to overthrow Iran's government though the predecessor Truman administration had opposed a coup. Classified documents show British intelligence officials played a pivotal role in initiating and planning the coup, and that AIOC contributed $25,000 towards the expense of bribing officials.
.
Britain and the U.S. selected Fazlollah Zahedi to be the prime minister of a military government that was to replace Mosaddegh as premier. Subsequently, a royal decree dismissing Mosaddegh and appointing Zahedi was drawn up by the coup plotters and signed by the Shah. The Central Intelligence Agency had successfully pressured the weak monarch to participate in the coup, while bribing street thugs, clergy, politicians and Iranian army officers to take part in a propaganda campaign against Mosaddegh and his government.”

ok, that’s old news and ‘everybody knows’ but why do people ‘follow the press’ when the press turns it into a story about corrupt leaders and angry citizens, ... one country after another after another after another? is it not obvious that there is another ‘layer’ down below, full of currents that are the real authors of the surficial ‘yang’ actions that the news media focuses its attention on?

snowden [and putin] probably know far more about dirty tricks affecting the ukraine and syria than CNN et al and the general public [why did the U.S. go silent on syria?], like insiders in the mossadegh affair, those stories, the real source of the dynamics, are generally not accepted by the press until decades later, after the media has conditioned popular opinion and allowed government to exploit it, ... based on analysis of the reduced-yang-reality coming from the usual 'West' - 'Other' role-play, embellished with flag-waving and noble words and all that.

you may be thinking that i am debating ‘political content issues’ here, but i am not. my point is not the political content of any of this, it is about the reduction of yin/yang reality to yang pseudo-reality. it is about 'the architecture of western thought'.

forensic science can come in with DNA evidence and prove that the irishman, who watched helplessly as two of his children died of starvation, killed the policeman in the heat of the violent famine protest. this ‘who does what to whom?’ analysis is superficial and does NOT reach down to the physical reality of our experience [recall that Mach noted that in founding science, we limited observations to 'vision' and 'touch' which set us up for inquiry into 'what local closed form objects do'. a lightning bolt looks and feels like a 'local object', ... but lightning builds from friction and then zaps [like the angry irishman?]. that is, it is a relational dynamic stirred up in the relational flow that we RE-present as a 'thing' that 'does stuff'.

“Our judgement has us conclude that every change must have an author”;–but this conclusion is already mythology: it separates that which effects from the effecting. If I say “lightning flashes,” I have posited the flash once as an activity and a second time as a subject, and thus added to the event a being that is not one with the event but is rather fixed, “is” and does not “become.”–To regard an event as an “effecting,” and this as being, that is the double error, or interpretation, of which we are guilty.” – Nietzsche

the ‘irish man’ is labelled a ‘killer’ and the ‘reality’ that is ‘making news’ [‘protestor kills policeman’] is the local cause-effect reality. this is NOT ‘reality’, this is the yang manifesting of a deeper yin/yang reality. to reconstruct what went on as if it were a local cause-effect transaction, we set up a blank Euclidian space for a background and then stage a role-play between the policeman as a defender of the peace and the protestor as a disturber of the peace, and in the play-staging, the policeman is characterized as a courageous idealist state-lover who is willing to give up his life to do his duty to God and the Queen, and the protestor is characterized as rabble who has never amounted to anything in his life and wants to blame his own inability to feed his family on someone else. of course, the London bankers and the British secretary of the treasury are not seen as being relevant in this ‘reconstruction'; i.e. they are not 'on trial'.

their non-appearance is because in the REAL PHYSICAL relational space we live in, even though relational influence is in precedence over ‘what things do’, relational influence is ‘non-local’, ‘non-visible’ and ‘non-material’ [as in the relational dynamics of 'fields']; i.e. the real physical dynamics are 'relations-first, things-dependent on relations'.

it is our noun-and-verb European/Scientific language-and-grammar that RE-casts the yin/yang dynamics of relational space as ‘yang’ dynamics that feature ‘independent things-in-themselves’ that notionally operate in an absolute space and absolute time container-reference-frame seen as ‘operating theatre’.

flow-based languages capture the deeper relational source of dynamics; .e.g. the flow-language phrase ‘the terrain is slumping’ captures the real physical reality that when a rock falls, the hilltop is left with a hole in it and the valley accrues a mound in it; i.e. the real physical dynamic is relational-spatial transformation [yin/yang] as in crest-and-trough wave dynamics, but a noun-and-verb European/Scientific language-and-grammar reduces this real physical dynamic, ... of relational transformation, ... to notional one-sided yang terms of; ‘a rock is falling’, effectively ‘blanking out’ the real physical [yin/yang] dynamic [the continually transforming relational spatial plenum].

you may insist that 'the rock is falling' is 'reality' and that the proof is that if you don't move out of the way, the rock will crush you, ... but as the systems sciences would say, ... that merely says that the falling rock is a 'system' that is included within a relational suprasystem and that you are using 'analytical inquiry' without 'grounding analytical inquiry in synthetical inquiry'. that is, we need to know what function the system is serving within the relational suprasystem. and as it turns out, the slumping of the terrain is served by the falling rock. the slumping of the terrain [the relational dynamic] is in a natural precedence over the 'what things do' dynamic [the falling rock]. likewise, the flow of the atmosphere [the relational dynamic] is in a natural precedence over the 'what hurricanes do' dynamic. as modern physics says, the world dynamic is yin/yang, 'relations-first, things-dependent-on-relations'. 'the slumping of terrain first, the falling of rock dependent on the slumping of terrain'.

that’s why i am suggesting that we may be like two ships passing in the night; i.e. you appear to be on the plane of politics [i am not 'binning you' just guessing your current primary focus] and you are reading my comments as if i were also on the plane of politics, but my comments orient to philosophical investigation into ‘what is real’ and ‘what is not real’, and how Western society ‘reduces reality’ from ‘yin/yang’ to ‘yang’.

what putin says and what obama says is coming from ‘role play’, just as what churchill and eisenhauer were saying in 1953 was coming from 'role play' [we little people can't be trusted to know what is 'really going on'], but like two big guys in a bar brawl, what putin and obama say and do are relevant regardless of their bullshit role-plays because the wreckage and injuries wrought by them that impact us all are relevant.

my interest is in getting rid of this 'forked tongue' role play system, ... which proceeds directly from all the pretending we have to do after we institutionalize the reducing of yin/yang dynamics to one-sided yang dynamics and present this reduced yang reality as the 'official reality' of Western colonizer society as built into the foundations of government (sovereigntism), commerce (corporatism) and justice (moral-judgement based institutionalized vengeance).

Thanx for responding,emile-
I will not be dealing here with your overall perspective
regarding the flow of forces, the full plenum correlates of modern cosmology -I agree with you and have learned much from you.
I do not believe in dialectical materialism and its struggle of
binary oppositions. this is just a distorted mirror- image of the fictions of authoritarian alternatives
that compete with each other as if one was good and other bad. They are both yang systems and nothing to do
with yin dynamics. they both congeal into oppressive systems with humanity caught in the middle with no
practical choice for you and I or anyone. Both" Sides" are a fiction. each of their Ideas and Program are
fictional power-cells ,ideologies, and hierarchies. Capitalism vs.Socialism. Labor value vs. fixed capital.
White vs.color, Male vs. Female, worker vs. capitalist and categories within. on and on . Total BS. Total fictions.
No, Power Structures will /have to produce its opposite so that it can justify itself and its power over all.
Sooo lets back "THE Ukraine" over "Russia(or vice versa ) Or The Authoritarian Venezuela vs
what ? a right wing inspired "uprising.' There are others that will fight these Political battles. yes, Cannon Fodder for Idealized and False Fictions. Zapatistas,on the other hand, drop out of this binary nightmare. NO SYNTHESIS. Just different and not power-
structure based. Same with Seattle ,occupy.
Immanent fullness of difference. I will not let Leviathan describe me, define me. This isn't Politics.
this the coming upsurging of undefined REAL people putting an end to the power structure. It has to be utopian, difficult
to comprehend, "impossible " . we will know it when we see it: with characteristics of mutual, respectful , non-ideological,
affirmation, loving of each other's welfare, and in consort with respect to nature. just like the early days of
occupy , all over the world.Heidegger's concept of Care(sorge) sums it up for me: Respect, wonder, and concern of humans as part of nature.
no, I am not the politician you think I am. Of course I am in favor of amelioration of misery,e.g.squatting, cooperatives ,
bookfairs, farmers markets. temporary autonomous zones.etc. these are good IN themselves and as mini demo projects from we can move beyond . Also festivals, and dealing with(If possible)friends, family and extended family relationships; good training for the real world, as
in vivo examples of the principles of Care. to get a taste so to speak. but what we need also are ruptures. then a reconstitution of communities of Care. Notice: I don't care to talk about those binary fictions here. I unfortunately know a lot about politics.
But I know a lot about art, literature, poetry, certain sciences, but that is not what this site is about.
This site is for philosophical and social studies material to share concepts that can also lead to practical
activities to proceed forward to a nature based praxis of liberation and reconciliation . your emphasis on restorative justice is key to the process I am talking about.A materialist based ethics which stresses reconciliation as part of the understanding of shared responsibility for our practical behavior.
Now, as Sartre's waiter, Ill try my best to share my ideas but unlike the waiter, I am not invested that you and others actually "buy in' to them.i want information too. I personally must tell you I have learned much here and I feel I am a better and more
fulfilled person for it. I love the many sophisticated and informative articles here and the commentary . I have brought many ideas here to
several discussion groups in my area and have been warmly received . I am Grateful. And content here and with its posters.
I can deal with give and take. I don't worry about an inappropriate comment of illogical or emotional outbursts. in my
personal life i say stupid things or express emotions not conducive to calm discussion. but i let it go myself and those
who do the same on this site. This site does not have to live up to my? your ?or their? standards. I am content.. I hope you are to.

your comment 'streamed for me',... i just resonated in it as it came in. any intellectual comment on my part would spoil the palate. resonating is learning.

hope to engage again.

Thanx, resonance.my best regards.
azano

Don't you think you should tell Azano that, just like Pinocchio, you're not a real little boy, but a run-amok AI unit? If not now, then when?

so you mean that when emile is bullshitting, his rants get longer like Pinocchio's nose? My mind -- kablooey!

Emile whips out boring long nose!

Everything I need to know in life I learned from the Mandelbrot set.

Radical Community is the Other whom i find attractive and redoubles my affirmation for life. Can we not dance before going to our covert activity? Meet you at the anarchist bookfair.

Hear that. This article walks in to my dingy little basement respite from sports bars and dance clubs and screams YOU ALL SUCK TOO. Probably true! But since, mortgage/marriage/kids/materialism bores me to tears, I might as well spend some spare time as an iconoclast until I'm too old to do much of anything except angry ranting on the internet.

I shudder at terms like 'Radical Community'! Creating strata, 'us and them' binaries, projected into gender specific identities,,,no, 'radical' is having a presumption of intelligence, it has no value ultimately in any anarchist community, it is an ephemeral pomposity! Rather the Commonity over the commodity, switch over 'n' and 'd' in your identity and all will be resolved. Maybe I should take it easy on the peyote soap my indigenous friend fed me this afternoonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

>I shudder
>I

fuck off with your binaries retard

^ableist^

so what? Even if that is what the speaker meant, what of it? I suppose we should dull our thinking, become halfwits in solidarity? it might be difficult to keep up though! The only use of disability theory is how to get off work. There is something wrong with being stupid, this should be obvious. wait for it....

Radical space here is defined as the privileged white middle class. But what about radical communities where participants don't use western language? Is it the point to erase the idea of radical separate places by inserting these dynamics into everyday life? Food and Bike Coops? Refer to detournement.

In return for dissing the radical community, you're banned from entering the Long Haul - hence, no workshop on your topic!

All you need is love. Just don't look for it here, where the only available line of goods is "Ego."
