New York: Attack on Marathon Bank in Solidarity with Comrades in Greece

Wed, 01/16/2013 - 16:21 -- Anonymous (not verified)

We claim responsibility for last night's attack on a Brooklyn branch of Marathon Bank. Through this action, we send a message of revolutionary solidarity to the 166 comrades who have been either arrested or detained over the past two weeks in Athens.

Marathon Bank - a subsidiary of the larger Piraeus Bank Group - was selected as a target, with the understanding that in the final analysis, each and every vestige of Greek capital must be deemed complicit in the creeping white terror that has continuously been enacted by the repressive apparatus of the Greek state.

Last night's attack seeks to demonstrate the demand that solidarity overcome the arbitrary (yet nonetheless repressive) borders imposed by the rulers of this world. For this reason, we also dedicate this action to Kerry Cunneen and use this opportunity to send revolutionary greetings to this comrade in struggle against the modern-day inquisition taking place here in the United States.

Solidarity is our weapon,
it knows no limits or boundaries,
War against the war of the State!

What attack on Marathon Bank? I didn't hear about anything on the news? What? Did it get fire bombed? WTF happened? O_O

On the way home from the bar a drunk anarchist urinated on the bank door while two others laughed. One then wrote this article on a smartphone while the others ordered the pizza slices.

I don't know where you are from, but do you think a bank being smashed or whatever would make the news in New York? It's not some podunk town where broken windows are sensationalized. New York don't give a shit. Also, I don't know what happened in the attack, I'm just guessing anarchy = broken windows or atms.

Their total profits were 20.5 million in 2010. Meanwhile, the average person in Greece was-and still is-deep in debt... To banks... Parasitic bankers?

Yeah, its the bankers, not capitalism that's the problem.

This is really awesome. I am so glad to see an action come out of NYC. Love to the comrades there!

True but also in your excitement next time don't forget to tell us what you are actually claiming. "The attack" is too generic. Did you break the windows? Pain slogans? Burn something? Punch walls?

When you make comments like this, you make everyone reading it sink deeper and deeper into the narcissistic slouching depressive passive nihilism that is America. Nothing is possible, nothing is serious, everything is a joke, even if you have no reason to believe that this is the case. Simply stating "Nothing happened. It's a joke article" makes an otherwise baseless claim seem to hold water and makes others think the same thing, quite possibly invalidating the efforts and risks made by comrades attempting to break the cycle of narcissistic slouching depressive passive nihilism that often takes hold of the movement just as easily as it takes hold of the rest of the nation.

Everything can be "faked" and any pictures (if there were any) could be Photoshopped or outdated or taken out of context. So no, you never really really know if something happened unless it was really serious like an arson covered by the media. Obviously this is not what took place or there would have been some media coverage but keep in mind that in many other countries arsons and even murders face media blackouts that same way that spraypaint and broken windows do here. So how do you know that something really happened in spite of all this? Because you know it in your heart and you believe the words of comrades over the words of police and journalists and narcissistic citizens.

With all the actions where there are comments questioning whether they happened, maybe it is time comrades start bringing along video cameras. But realize that the only reason such a decision should be made to increase the risk of an action would be to hopefully spread the effect of the action further and inspire people more, not to prove that it happened.

Here's a thought ... if splashy symbolic shit is your chosen method ... do it in such a way where no-one will dispute that it actually happened. (You might have to graduate from paint-bombs and banner drops, kids)
