Responsibility Claim for the Arson Attacks on Local Political Organizations - Athens

Fri, 01/11/2013 - 11:46 -- Anonymous (not verified)

From Act for Freedom

The three-party government of memorandums decided to strike one of the more militant parts of society, that of self-organized spaces, in an attempt of intensifying the oppression and promoting social fascism. Either with the ridiculous pretext of a “centre of illegality” in order to evict Villa Amalias squat, or with the pathetic claim that ASOEE (economic university of athens) functions as a warehouse for illegal trading, in order to raid the anarchist ‘steki’ of the university and steal the machines of the self-organized radio station 98fm, the truth cannot be hidden… Self-organized anti-hierarchical structures are the answer to the new junta they want to impose.

For 23 years Villa Amalias consists a self-organized open social space with anti-merchandise characteristics, sheltering concerts, theatrical palys, projections and events. Besides the house squat, it gave space to a self-organized printers, a stained glass lab, an open café and library. Villa Amalias was and continues to be, a strong antifascist bound, especially in the area of Agios Pandeleimonas, against the plans of the neonazis of the Golden dawn, and the capitalists.

As a token of solidarity, on January 6 2013 and at 03.30am, we torched 3 offices of local organizations of the coalition government. Specifically, an office of PASOK in Vironas, and two offices of ND in Ilioupoli.

You will not take Villa Amalias even in your dreams. The struggle continues.

For anarchy and communism.

P.S. A big ‘bravo’ to the people there at GADA (athens police headquarters) for the cinematic blockbuster the offered to the audience. You clowns… next time in 3D.

Jesus think for a second. Portland is the place where the most tires get slashed by anarchists which is like the American version of burning things you fucking dumbass. So yeah Athens is for Europe what Portland is for us. That's why so many anarchists flock to Portland, too.

Submitted by No. (not verified) on

No offense, but Portland is nowhere near having a Greece-level anarchist movement. It would be nice if it did, or if anywhere in the US did, but as of now... We have a long way to go.

PS - Notice the Greek anarchists who carried out this action targeted blatantly political targets and wrote an eloquently-worded communique to justify their action? Worlds apart from slashing some random person's car tire and providing a half-hearted justification related to "yuppies".

You don't get it and you clearly don't live in portland and your jealous.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I don't live in Portland and have no desire to do so. I have been to Greece multiple times. Stayed in Exarchia, visited a lot of the squats you read about on this site, been to big Greek protests.

And... There's literally no comparison. I don't say that with a mocking tone - or to be discouraging - I say it as a simple matter of fact. I realize that there are a lot of snarky comments on this website, but mine was not intended to be one. Bottom line, if you want Portland's anarchist movement (does it really have one of significance?) to rival that of Exarchia's, you've got years if not decades of movement-building ahead of you. And I wish you luck (not sarcastic, actually).

Oooh congratulations super cool riot tourist. "I've been to Exarchia" Get any cool souveneirs? No one cares.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Thank you for such a sincere reply, and for completely ignoring every point I made. Very useful conversation.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

You got trolled by a sarcastic post mocking Portland into boasting about how you've been to real big greek protests.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I see. On this website, it's sometimes difficult for me to distinguish the sincere stupid comments from the trolling stupid comments.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

and your impressing no one by hyping the "awesomeness" of Portland, which there really is nothing special about. So you call them a riot tourist, and I'll call you a scenester,

"I have been to Greece multiple times. Stayed in Exarchia, visited a lot of the squats you read about on this site, been to big Greek protests."

Douchechills.

"Douchechills."

Catch your glimpse in the mirror?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

I caught a glimpse of you posing for a picture with a real life Greek riot dog.

...Which is something you'll only ever experience from the glare of a 32" Toshiba monitor, by the sounds of it.

Maybe your parents could spot my airfare too? Or I could become a college student and get some federal aid money to go recuperate the Greek struggle and enjoy the weather?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Or you could get a job and buy a plane ticket for yourself (one can easily do an N America-Greece round trip for 2-3K), which is what I did, and will continue to do. Adulthood has its perks, you should try it some time.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

"you could get a job"

Oh yeah? It's that easy? What's your secret? wait wait, don't tell me....

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Where in the United States do you live that finding a job is that difficult?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

No, answer the question. Where in the United States do you live that finding a job is about as likely as finding a leprechaun's pot of gold? You're speaking as if to even consider finding employment so that you can save up for airfare is a totally foreign concept, unable to be even considered. Yet that's precisely how most people finance their trips overseas, among most other things. Am I missing something?

Submitted by missing something? (not verified) on

A brain.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

If you can't think your way into even an entry level retail/service job, I don't think you're allowed to question the intelligence of others. Throwing stones, glass houses, etc, ya know?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

This "ANARCHIST" thinks unemployed people are just lazy and stupid, and that if most people who wanted to take a EUROPEAN VACATION like he/she did could save up 2-3k by working service jobs (so plentiful these days) and go hang out in Greece if they wanted to. They want to know what part of America I live in that I can't just "get a job" and take a vacation. I live in the part of America where poor people struggle under austerity and soaring unemployment meanwhile juggle multiple undroppable responsibilities to family and so on, you subculturally radical privileged fuck. So send me a postcard on your next vacation, maybe with some resume tips or whatever. How embarrassing that yours is the kind of analysis that gets to meet our Greek comrades.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Still no answer to my question. The unemployment rate in the US is only 7.8%, which - while higher than historical norms - is still decent. Of course, if we factor in underemployment (ie people who work part-time but don't get as many hours as they need), the number's notably higher. The US BLS purposefully omits those people to present a rosier picture than actually exists.

For comparison, Greece and Spain both have an unemployment rate above 25% right now, with youth unemployment in both countries even higher than that. Now THAT is a full-blown depression. But America? Certainly there's been a lot of belt-tightening and a lot of folks out of work, but nothing Earth-shattering if 92.2% of workers are still employed. Which begs the question: if 92.2% of your fellow workers are doing it, why can't you? What makes you so special? I'm legitimately curious, since you scoffed at my suggestion that you pay for a trip to Greece by working, like everybody else does (I know 4 anarchists from NA who've been to Greece, all of whom did it that way). It was as if to even suggest that you should work was ludicrous, if not downright offensive. My first guess was that maybe you live in a geographic area that's inordinately depressed in economic terms, thus my query as to where you live. In that case, perhaps you could move somewhere more promising. There are obviously other issues to consider (disability? extraneous circumstances?) that I am not comfortable inquiring about for privacy issues. Whichever it may be, if you actually want to go to Greece, working and saving up to do so is probably the most pragmatic path to take.

2-3K is a shitload of disposable income for a lot of people nowadays.

Hell im a sexworker even I don't have anything in my savings account (ive got like $100 in my checking). Thank god im not a single parent & that I share all my living expenses w/ my partner...

Submitted by no (not verified) on

No. Not at all. Portland enjoys a very high standard of living and is extremely white. Greek is in southern europe....need i say more? There is a fucking show about how white and yuppie portland is. fuck you.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Portland is also the place where the most anarchists get arrested, raided, and imprisoned. North Korea is like the Portland of Asia. So yeah North Korea is to Asia what Portland is for us.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

First of all, Seattle kicks Portland's ass in the anarchy department. Second of all, I wouldn't say that either are at a high point right now.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

That's not what the boxing match indicated. Nice outfits, BTW.

(JK - love and solidarity)

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Seattle has a subculture based in nepotism and fronting. No where in the US do we have our shit together, but Seattle ain't got nothing to flaunt.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

In contrast to many places, I think the publications that have come from Seattle have been relatively honest about what it is actually like there. There are exceptions, and unfortunately they is a lot of boastful talk, like in most anarchist circles. I also think ignoring situations like May Day 2012 in Seattle to say there is "nothing to flaunt" there is another kind of exaggeration/"fronting."

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

May Day was great, but that was bigger than Seattle (A)s. When someone brings up Seattle anarchy I mostly think of boring nihilist nonsense.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

May day was great but what about the old A-News?? Bring it back!

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Then you really have no idea. The anarchist space in Seattle is huge compared to almost any other American city and self-proclaimed nihilists occupy a very small part of it. May Day was indeed "bigger than Seattle (A)s" but only happened because of the strength of the anarchist space and the work anarchists from Seattle put in. I live in Seattle and I seriously can't even think of one recent example of "boring nihilist nonsense." I do think there exists fronting and it's a shame and it's harmful, but it seems like your criticism is really petty and ill-informed.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

...versus Portland, where the local anarchist cafe's windows are broken more frequently than bank or cop shop windows. I live in Portland and it sucks here, especially since the beginning of the summer.

if I were on the old @news I would of made an account in order to up vote this comment!!! but the captcha is pretty cool I can do it even when shitfaced which is the only way to troll on this site

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Nah the new catchpa requires javascript blockers to be turned off to work, unlike the old ones.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

Javascript blockers turned off means "bad" and "unsafe".

Kudos, Worker, for sacrifying security in favor of eye-candy for small school children. That just resumes the esteem you have for Anarchistnews visitors.

Some ISPs load 3ed party Java of their own, such as the infamous "1.2.3.4" image compression site. Anyone not running NoScript who is on an ISP that uses this or any other site to compress data risks having every image sent to their computer logged by that site as to source and destination if they enable Javascript on ANY site that has images!

Ghostery doesn't seem to detect this third party site but I've got it marked unsafe in NoScript, so it never loads on my machines. Anyone not familiar with blocking third party Javascript, and anyone on an unfamiliar page must block ALL Javascript to be safe.

With 1.2.3.4 blocked, the original image is sent and the third party site is not used. You get better image quality and one less potential third party tracker at the expense of more bandwidth.
