Santiago, Chile: Never Surrender Support for Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners
From our part of the world, we wanted to respond to the call for international solidarity with anarchist prisoners facing long sentences, and support Marie Mason and Eric McDavid, American comrades imprisoned since 2008 and 2006 respectively.
Marie is imprisoned for two fires set in 1999 and 2000, after her ex-husband, Frank Ambrose, betrayed her to the state. Eric, without carrying out an action, was convicted for criminal conspiracy due to the work of an infiltrator who compiled evidence against him. Both Marie and Eric refused to cooperate with the police and turn over their comrades, causing the State to sentence each to more than 20 years in prison.
But, why June 11? It began as an international day of solidarity with anarchist Jeff “Free”Luers, imprisoned starting in 2004 (translator’s note – actually 2000), with a sentence of more than 22 years in prison. After years of struggle, and together with his legal team, he won a reduction of his sentence and was freed in 2009. But in the intervening years, the FBI began an effort to devastate the communities of radical and anarchist environmentalists, leading to the accusations against Eric McDavid and Marie Mason.
Along this trajectory, we continue agitating on this day, so that we remember the importance of actively demonstrating our solidarity, since it helps raise the spirits of those comrades isolated by the State and helps them win their return to the struggle in the streets.
All around the world there are imprisoned comrades, meaning that those of us outside must support and act in solidarity with them everywhere. It is for this reason that the Biblioteca Sante Geronimo Caserio and the Biblioteca La Hiedra have decided to carry out an anti-prison action as a humble gesture of solidarity with all of these companions, imprisoned for their willingness to confront domination:
Marie Mason, Eric McDavid, José Miguel Sánchez, Alberto Olivares Fuenzalida, Justin Solondz, Marco Camenisch, Freddy Fuentevilla, Juan Aliste, Marcelo Villarroel, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Ted Kaczinsky and Gabriel Pombo da Silva, to name only a few.
Neither short nor long-sentences – We do not want any kind of judgement or sentence! We want to finish with every prison!
