Rebellion is Contagious — The Uprising in France

Monday, Nov. 7th, 2005—For eleven nights in a row, beginning on October 27th, Paris has burned in a rebellion of the poor against the police and the rich. It started in the Clichy-sous-Bois neighborhood after two young men of African backgrounds fled from the police and were electrocuted to death after climbing into a power substation.

<table><tr><td>On the morning of Saturday, October 29, the armed, racist, anti-immigrant vigilantes of the Minuteman Project held a rally on the steps of the state capitol in Sacramento. They were there to cap off their month-long failure of a patrol along the border and to gather signatures for the California Border Police initiative. The initiative would create 2,000-3,000 paid positions for Minutemen in kop's clothing to harass immigrant workers statewide.<br><br>

Riot police fired tear gas at rebellious students in front of the Quebec National Assembly (provincial legislature) yesterday. Some among a demonstration of 300 people demanding free education waved anarchist black flags and threw paint-bombs and rocks at police. Police made no arrests.
