The fairies will never be electric

Sabotage of an electrical station, “the fairies will never be electric”

Don’t forget to turn off the light on your way out

The modern world has held us hostage non stop, ever since childhood, venting the merits of security and making us forget the copious dose of servitude we must accept in return for progress through a series of increasingly poorly kept promises.

Case Revisited - Kaczynski's Lingering Influence in 2021

Kelley and I discuss the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, and his life. We discuss how his anti-technology beliefs and extreme outlook resonate with events and radical, anti-government movements in this current day and age. And finally we explore what lessons can be learned by looking at this case in hindsight.

TOTW: Solarpunk Anarchism

What can you burn that is somehow related to this topic?

Topic of the Week: The sun still rises and with it a new conversation is shared over the wires. Over the years, here at Anarchist News we have posted topics discussing various tendencies within the anarchist space and this week we are talking about a rather new set of ideas on the block (but also old) related to solarpunk anarchy.

Greening Anarchism

pupperz = anti-civ zoomies camp

From Cindy Milstein WordPress by Cindy Milstein

My dear friend and mensch #MurrayBookchin would turn over in his grave if he heard me say this, but between, in particular, this summer’s capitalist-fueled fires, floods, droughts, heat waves, tornadoes, and other “new normal” extreme and deadly weather catastrophes, and today’s “late to the end-of-the-world party” UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, we need a renewed #GreenAnarchism.

A Conversation with John Zerzan

A Conversation with John Zerzan on Direct Action, School Shootings, Authenticity, Veganism & More

I reached out to Zerzan by email with 4 long questions to help prepare for a different conversation with an anti-industrialist, plus the suggestion that I could post our Q&A text interview around a few places to help clarify his political theory and promote my critique of primitivism. But he offered to voice chat instead, which was a pleasant surprise.

So I'll post the video and transcribe our conversation here. I edited the text slightly for clarity’s sake, just to remove filler words and put anything I forgot to say in, but I ran the updated version past Zerzan and he’s happy his answers still suit the questions asked.

The Tamarix Project on Immediatism podcast

These two magical green anarchist pieces offer us ways to relate to our animated environment as powerful equals. In Tending the Body of the Goddess, we see that being stuck in grief for Nature can prevent us being a true partner to her. Freedom from grief allows us to flourish along with Nature. The second piece models a style of interaction with the undesirable thoughts that crowd our minds, whether nightmares or just civilization's intrusions; by calling the Night Mare to us, holding her, working with her, and then freeing her, we can become free of our nightmares. Both pieces are beautifully written and quite moving. Immediatism has received strong positive feedback on these. Check out The Tamarix Project, Backwoods Journal at LittleBlackCart.com, or Oak Journal for more like them.

The Art of Not Being Governed, on Immediatism podcast

An anarchist history of upland Southeast Asia, by James C. Scott. The compelling story of disparate Asian peoples residing in Zomia -- a mountainous region the size of Europe that consists of portions of seven countries -- who until recently have stemmed the vast tide of state-making to live at arm's length from any organized state society. Burn the Bread Book: Industrial Communism Will Not Liberate You

from ziq_essays

For years I've watched a man drive his pick-up truck into the forest around me and cut down all the trees that aren't legally protected. So, every tree that isn't a pine or an oak. The moment a carob or olive or hawthorn or mastic or strawberry tree grows big enough to burn, he cuts it down and drags it away for firewood. He even fells trees I planted, while smiling and waving at me like he’s doing me a favor. I glare at him silently but don’t say a word, knowing he has the full power of the state behind him. He uses the wood to fuel his traditional bakery which has several large outdoor ovens. The much-loved industrial product he produces is bread; a product that has rapidly replaced all the native food-bearing plants of the area as they’ve been cut down to make room for wheat fields.

Corrosive Consciousness on Immediatism Podcast

Enjoy the full text of Bellamy Fitzpatrick's book, Corrosive Consciousness, from Enemy Combatant Publications, now in podcast format. Primarily a critique of the more prominent voices and ideas in anarcho-primitivism, Bellamy's book also provides a model by which we can examine our own ideas and those of others. Bellamy's unique take on egoism and invitation to be cynical in our anarchism are welcome additions to the genre. Each thirty minute episode begins with a five minute intro to support your listening experience. Corrosive Consciousness is available from LittleBlackCart.com.

Arson in the French National Forestry Office

Aubenas, France – Incendiary attack on the Office National des Forêts [National Forestry Office] in Aubenas in the Ardèche, in the night of 5 to 6 October

I have learned that I don’t just love forests for their wealth of life, death and what’s in between, for what they are, that my repulsion for their fate isn’t just empathy but that my own possibilities are also restricted, controlled, rigged, destroyed. Then I remembered the acts of sabotage against the destruction of forests. Machinery vandalized, sawmills burned down, humans attacked. I remembered that I could act and not just go deaf and blind to protect myself. So I took part in an incendiary attack on the National Forestry Office, in Aubenas, in the night between 5th and 6th October.

Water, freedom & anarchic mythologies

I want my anarchy to be like the Hamper of Gwyddno Garanhir and the Horn of Bran Galed. The hamper multiplied a hundredfold whatever food was placed inside it while the Horn is said to have possessed the magical property of ensuring that "whatever drink might be wished for was found in it".
