One Month Until June 11th!

We’re one month away from this year’s June 11th International Day of Solidarity with Marius Mason and all long-term anarchist prisoners!

The essence of the day is that many seemingly separate events and actions can resonate within a wider network of efforts in solidarity with our imprisoned fighters. In this way, we make real the proposal of a multiform anarchist solidarity – one in which banner drops and bake sales, spray paint and sending letters, demonstrations and destruction can, together, show the diversity and power of anarchist solidarity. Every year, we are amazed at what people do. From big cities to small towns to lone individuals, anarchists put their hearts, minds, and hands to work, showing that anyone, no matter their circumstances, has something meaningful to contribute to freeing our imprisoned comrades.

January Political Prisoner Birthday Cake
Hello Friends and Comrades,

  1. Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for January.(11"x17" PDF, 5MB) Also available in color here, and as a PNG here (imgur link). Print it out and plaster your community, both in commemoration of these freedom fighters and to advertise locally for a political prisoner letter writing night. Get together with some friends in your town to send birthday cards to these fighters in our struggle. It’s an easy way to help remind them that they aren’t forgotten. If you make one, remember—don’t use anything like white-out, stickers, tape or glitter on it. We also recommend that you put a return name and address and their name and prisoner number on the card, lest the authorities “lose” the envelope and forget where it is going. If you would like to add a birthday or sign up for our poster mailing list (not a listserv, one email per month), or if you would like to contribute in another way to increasing the profile of US political prisoners, email us at ppbirthday@riseup.net.

Greetings to all the good folks who are coming together on this day to fight together against an important Environmental Justice issue. It inspires me to see that friends in the environmental movement and friends in the prison abolition movement are seeing some essential common ground, to join forces and visions in their work.

Marius Mason Transferred to the SHU! Please Write Him a Letter!

From Support Marius Mason:

On June 16th, we received notification from Marius that he has been transferred to the SHU—or Special Housing Unit, also known as solitary confinement—for, we believe, 30 days as a result of an alleged violation of prison disciplinary rules. We still do not know the basis of these allegations, but we believe they involve a violation of his right to counsel. At this point, Marius does not have all of his property in the SHU, and his normal phone privileges and all e-mail privileges have been suspended. Marius’s lawyer, Moira Meltzer-Cohen, has not yet received the incident report, but based on what she has has heard from prison officials, she believes the disciplinary action to be unjust.

Marius is currently in good spirits, but solitary confinement is a terrible and dispiriting form of punishment. Marius can still send and receive letters, so please show your support and solidarity by dropping him a line!

This year, Bloomington held a week of activities leading up to June 11th:

June 2: A benefit raised $350 for Eric King, an anarchist held captive in Kansas awaiting trial for an alleged incendiary attack on a Congressman’s office.

June 6: An assembly was held to discuss prison projects and recent struggles of revolutionary prisoners and prison rebels.

June 8: A card and letter writing night for anarchist prisoners was held. A few letters were written and cards were signed for 20 anarchist prisoners in the United States.

June 9: The Pages to Prisoners Project held a 12-hour ‘packathon’ event where people responded to prisoners’ letters and put together packages of books.

Solidarity and greetings to you all! Thank you for coming together to celebrate our respected comrade’s regained freedom, as well as the many transitions that have taken place this past year. First and foremost, I’d like to wish both Eric and Jenny every possible happiness, and to express how grateful I am to their dedicated and capable legal team. This kind of victory should be savored and taken to heart as a lesson in solidarity and perseverance.
