We need a plethora of tactics

diversity of tactics

From Freedom News UK

Considering “metacrisis” and the ever greater need to re-embrace Bookchin’s social ecology.

‘Metacrisis’ is my chosen umbrella term for the escalation of multiple global crises of climate, ecology, and political economy, which have reached such a point now that all radical organising is a form of crisis response. And I know for folk on the sacrificial frontlines of capitalism, the terms ‘radical organising’ and ‘crisis response’ belie that they have to fight just to survive.

We Carry Them With Us

We Carry Them With Us

From Surviving Leviathan with Peter Gelderloos by Peter Gelderloos

some memories for March the 2nd

I sat down to prepare the talk I have to give this afternoon about a friend who died in the struggle. But my mind is flighty, my breath shallow, shadows of sadness and anxiety, so first I’m writing to you.

Geopolitics for 2024

From Surviving Leviathan with Peter Gelderloos

I’m in bed today, chemosick, too foggy to work on my book, and too achy to take a hike on this beautiful sunny day after Imbolc [okay, after editing it’s half a week later]. But maybe I can put together a newsletter, a more composed contemplation of the topic I took up in the tongue-in-cheek “The Year Ahead in 2024”

The Year Ahead in 2024

From Surviving Leviathan with Peter Gelderloos

Hey everyone,

The second round of chemo has knocked me on my ass but, writing from bed, I wanted to get out a little newsletter.

This is a partially facetious, partially serious forecast for the next 15 years, or more specifically, an adjustment to what we might expect out of the next 15 years, as seen from this current bend in the road at the very beginning of 2024.

Heating Up

he's heating up... he's on fire! enfuego! - NBA JAM

From It's Going Down

This summer brought yet another record heat wave, as climate change fueled disasters hit countries around the world, leaving human communities devastated by flooding, wildfires, and storms. While this “new normal” has brought climate change to the forefront of popular consciousness, we’ve also seen the far-Right spinning new conspiracies and the neoliberal center pushing the same tired consumerist lifestyle changes as false solutions.

“Crisis of their Own Legitimacy”

From It's Going Down

Original title: “Crisis of their Own Legitimacy”: Peter Gelderloos and Tom Nomad on the Recent Trump Indictment

The following interview with Tom Nomad and Peter Gelderloos offers up an anarchist analysis of the ongoing political fallout of Trump’s recent indictment and its impact on both the political landscape and the upcoming 2024 election cycle.

Socialism: Let’s Not Resuscitate the Worst Mistake of the 20th Century

From Surviving Leviathan with Peter Gelderloos

In the mid-19th century, socialism and communism were largely synonymous, and as often as not they referred to the dream of a future without all the institutions at the service of bankers, landlords, and factory owners; a future without the State.

The Impossible Community: Realizing Communitarian Anarchism
JOHN P. CLARK

As Long As There Are Bars

From Surviving Leviathan with Peter Gelderloos

One of the weird things about prison was how normal it felt. I was already an anarchist at that point, so I knew that none of us were free, but in prison I learned this was not an abstract technicality. It is absolutely horrible to be deprived of your loved ones and deprived of the open sky, the earth, the water. But beneath these things, all of them solvable by an eager prison reformer through better visits or gardening programs, at a fundamental level, prison did not feel qualitatively different from school or the psych ward at the hospital.

An Institution, A Person, A Spirit

This article has nothing to do with Christmas.

From Surviving Leviathan with Peter Gelderloos

I realize how most of the people who have dedicated their lives to the building of an anarchist movement have disappointed me, some gravely, while the people who have brought an anarchist praxis to some aspect of real life and survival have inspired me the most. In the worst moments, they’ve even kept me alive.

A long time ago in a revolution far, far away

From Surviving Leviathan with Peter Gelderloos

Revolutionary Organizing, Lumpen, and Anarchy in Andor

What are the politics of Andor? It would be obtuse to expect any representation to be meaningful in a society in which action is constantly divorced from belief. Nonetheless, we can engage in cultural criticism to take a look at what kind of fantasies the culture industry feels a need to contemplate and domesticate.
