It’s that time of the year again, when many in society are making new plans and resolutions for the coming year. While the anarchist may oft shun such silliness from society, some areas behind these ideas demand a closer examination. This TOTW is about anarchists relation to physical and mental health.
Summary: Donald Trump and those who follow him have shown certain specific traits of a fascist movement. Does that make Trump or the Trumpets into fascists? What is fascism? How is it counterposed to bourgeois democracy? Is there likely to be a fascist movement in the U.S.A.? How do we fight fascism?
Over the years this site has garnered a lot of criticism around the bad opinions of its users. As a platform for anarchist discussion this comes as no surprise. Of course it is disconcerting that some users confuse the opinions of anons with the opinions of the site but that is part of the price of hosting those opinions. During different moments, and with varying consistency, we have attempted to address this conundrum. On the one side the anon is the creator of almost all of the interesting content that has ever run through the comment section.
The notion that we are living in a Consumer Society has been a fundamental piece of post-1950s social theory. This has been the case for anarchists and other anti-authoritarians/anti-capitalists; but it has also been the case for neo-Conservatives and other right-wingers who blame the Consumer Society for cultural decadence, moral relativism, etc.
From Little Black Cart
Spring is looking great at the Little Black Cart with a lot of exciting activity around this quarter's titles. Five new titles! We are about to head out for our
casual LBC tour. We have a new PDF catalog available. We are looking for an Intern for this summer. We still welcome new Accomplices!
New York City, Fox News
This summer a brand new reality TV will make its cable debut. It's called “Anarchy in the city” and is the true story of eight anarchists, picked to live in a punk house, avoiding work together and having their lives taped, to find out what happens when people stop having masters... and start getting real. The real world.
From BASTARD Conference
We are running a little late but, as you can probably imagine, finding a place to hold an anarchist theory conference isn't as easy as it used to be. In our case it is as much about aging as it is about the horrorshow of land pricing but either way we now have a venue. The Omni Commons will be hosting the 2016 Berkeley Anarchist Students of Theory, And Research, & Development conference.
