A Pathless Journey

trees

From Eco-Revolt

Introduction

I am writing this following an invitation to write something on “punk” spirituality and theology. While I would never call myself a practitioner of “punk spirituality” or a “punk theologian”, I have been engaged in activities that I would describe as anti-authoritarian and DIY mysticism and meditation, which has something of a “punk” quality to it – ontological anarchy being my usual category of choice for a great deal of this.

Pleroma reading group announcement

From Pleroma

Pleroma is announcing a relatively informal reading group discussing literature of interest to anarchists and occultists alike.

Currently (as of 26 September 2022), we are reading Thunder – Perfect Mind, a relatively short text found among the Nag Hammadi scriptures in 1945.

Anyone interested in this project should join the Pleroma Discord server!

Suggestions for new texts to be read are greatly appreciated.

Anarchist Online Study Group, on Immediatism Podcast

Immediatism's favorite online anarchist study group is taking a three-week deep dive into spirituality and religion in the anarchist sphere. (See each week's reading list and links to pdf's at https://chi.st/study-group/.) To support participants and newcomers with the reading, Immediatism has available two of the texts for Thursday 1/13 and is in the process of putting out the 10 episodes of the lengthier text for 1/20 and 1/27/22. The Shamanic Trace is PLW's large scale theory of religion -- its roots and its relationship with the state.

If Lyobov's Notes Made It Back to Terra: Ursula K. LeGuin vs. Hollywood

Peter Gelderloos

In 2009, James Cameron made a remake of Dances With Wolves set on the fictitious planet of Pandora and replacing the Lakota with an alien species called the Na'vi. It ended up being far more successful than Edward Zwick's 2003 Dances With Wolves remake starring Tom Cruise, and even more than the Kevin Costner original.

Curiously, all the major elements of this remake that were different from the first Dances With Wolves were lifted from an Ursula K. LeGuin novel, The Word for World is Forest.
