Anarchy Bang: Introducing Episode 48 – Conflict

From Anarchy Bang

This is the end. Not the end of talking, of course, but the end of this particular project of trying to talk at and with people. Especially about anarchism. Especially with phones. But mostly the project exceeded the format and the audience and excitement build as much as we could have reasonable expected given how niche our project was. This was particularly funny when we got callers who had no idea what anarchism is.

Anarchy Bang: Episode 47 - Family, Holidays and was it ok to enjoy Thursday's meal?

From Anarchy Bang

Is it our responsibility to be(come) new people, without families, as we create and unleash anarchy upon the world? This episode is about family, holidays, and our role in both.

Holidays in general are most interesting as a) Times of disconnection between expectation (warm homes, comforting families, supportive and/or steady friends, etc) and reality (frequently no or toxic family and/or friends, no money, no time off, etc). and b) Coming together with the people who we do want to share things with, in spite of the cultural expectations rather than because of them (Jews going to Chinese restaurants on Christmas, to name a non anarchist example).

Anarchy Bang: Introducing Episode 46 – OK Boomer

From Anarchy Bang

Aging. In the nineties it seemed the average age of the anarchist horde was in the late teens/early twenties. By the WTO (happy anniversary) it was more like college aged or mid twenties. Today the bell curve is flattening out and an average seems well into the thirties. I remember a friend opined that as the economy stopped absorbing people the age range of an anarchist would continue to rise. Whether it is politics, the economy, or a change in counter-cultural norms the anarchist is aging. What does this mean? Does it mean that generation gaps are occurring in the anarchist space? Does it mean we have more money and conservatives in our midst? Are we experiencing the same OK Boomer moment the rest of the culture is? This is the second of the last four episodes of this show and we hope you can join us in conversation!

Anarchy Bang: Introducing Episode 43 – Anarchist Music

From Anarchy Bang

It used to be that the anarchist space was also a cultural space. Music was a big part of that space and mostly is no longer. Why is that? Or if not then why is the space that is about music seems to not exactly be about other aspects of the anarchist space. This week let's talk about anarchist music and about music that appeals to anarchists. Did anarchist music end at Tub Thumping? Or should we take heed at anarchist music lists like this one? https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6ddept8PXHsXGmtPgNCZU0

Introducing Episode 42 – Anarchism and the Occult

From Anarchy Bang

This week we are going to discuss the relationship between Anarchism and the Occult. What is the Occult? Especially in the context of anarchism. We’ll discuss the recent book on anarchism and the occult. If things go well we’ll discuss spiritual practice prior to the Enlightenment and what will happen when the center no longer holds and we live beyond measure. Hopefully this week there will be special guests and it’ll be the spookiest episode yet!

Anarchy Bang - Introducing Episode 40 – Democracy

This episode is going to be a bit meta. Anarchists have been critiquing the hell out of Democracy for about a decade, following in the footsteps of the best of the anti-state communist world. Peak critique was Crimethinc’s 10 part series on Democracy, The Party’s Over, which we'll refer to a lot for this weeks discussion. Despite being boring, it speaks around some interesting points. It’s all about police, presidents, and majorities whereas I hope this episode will be more about high-minded principles, concepts, and orders of operations. Do we still think in 20th century abstractions or has the internet, postmodernism, and social (media) reality make those discussions seem a little quaint? All this and more on Sunday at noon PST

Anarchy Bang: Episode Thirteen - Structure and topics

From Anarchy Bang

This week we are going to discuss structure in conversations, presentations, and in how anarchists present information. This week's discussion is inspired by Waldemar and their comment on Episode 12. Have our discussions up till now been too abstract and removed from daily life? Do conversations benefit or suffer for structure? If our goal is to grow the conversation how have we done so far? What could we do to improve?
