For Peter Watkins (1935-2025)

From Autonomies

Peter Watkins’ recent death (30/10/2025) was the occasion to recall how much his films conveyed a radical sense of history, and in their very “artificiality”, a portrait of anarchic creativity. Our debt to Watkins is considerable and we remember him here – as we have done in the past – with an essay by the historian David Armitage and a selection of his films and interviews.

On silencing voices from Eastern Europe at anarchist events in EU

From Anarchist Black Cross Belarus

Over the past few years, quite a few organizations and groups have appeared in the anarchist milieu that actively exclude activists from Solidarity Collectives, ABC-Belarus, and a number of other anarchist and anti-authoritarian organizations from public events, blocking their participation and writing various kinds of “statements” condemning their work in support of Ukrainian resistance to the Russian invasion. The basis for such behavior is often the distorted positions of activists from Eastern Europe on the war. Anarchists are accused of becoming militarists, supporting the war, and not being critical enough of the Ukrainian state.

An Anarchist's Guide to Frankenstein

From The Transmetropolitan Review

Mary Shelley wasn’t just an anarchist, she was the daughter of anarchists, which was more difficult than it sounds, especially for Mary. Her parents, Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin, were widely despised by mainstream British society for their anarchist beliefs, and their daughter Mary Shelley inherited this social animosity.

Arson of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food in Athens, Greece

From Abolition Media

About the arson of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food

EU agricultural subsidies as a tool of capitalist restructuring.
Like every ministry, the Ministry of Rural Development is a mechanism of class domination. Class domination for Greek capitalism in the sector of primary production practically means:
-Privatization of the largest and most fertile part of the agricultural land – and securing through it enormous profits – by a tiny minority of modern landowners closely linked to domestic and international agribusiness monopolies. It is indicative that today 90% of all agricultural land belongs to just 15% of wealthy rich large farmers.

Northern California: Foothill Radical Zinefair, Nov. 8

From Foothill Radical Zinefair (instagram)

We’re now just a few days until the zinefair! We’d like to remind everyone that while we’ve got a few ideas for discussions, please feel free to come and start your own, or lead your own workshop, or give your own impromptu skill share. We’ve scheduled a few things, but we won’t be sad if, as a collective, we decide to do something else. We want to create a space where there isn’t a divide between the givers and takers, teachers and students, zine makers and zine readers.

warmachine in wisconsin catches fire

on the night of nov 2 the mcnally industries building in grantsburg wi was targeted by anarchists. mcnally mills a lot of shit for department of defense contracts and enables the usa war machine and etc. etc. we hate them. this depressing building scarcely had any windows. the few it did have were tiny but we were able to make our way inside. the inside was likewise depressing. we broke lots of stuff and left a few firebombs with timers made from old coffee makers. the building did look furnished with fire suppressant systems so we dont know how much damage was achieved.

Shifu: Can We Consider the Views of China’s Famous Anarchist ‘True’ Anarchy?

From Rethinking the World in East Asia 1850s-1990s

Born to an upper-class family as Liu Shaobin, Shifu (1884-1915) lived through the collapse of the Qing dynasty and converted to anarchism while studying in Japan. Known for his commitment to living anarchist principles, Shifu’s purist example and devotion to promoting the common good through his educational reforms influenced subsequent generations of Chinese anarchists, attracting others to the anarchist movement which reached its peak in the early 1920s. While Shifu’s early career mirrors other anarchists of the time in his support of assassination and revolution-driven violence, some argue that, because his later efforts depart somewhat and are marked by a renunciation of violence, he fell away from anarchy.

An Anarchist’s Conviction Offers a Grim Foreshadowing of Trump’s War on the ‘Left’

From Wired by Ali Winston

As the Trump administration ramps up its targeting of left-leaning people and groups, the prosecution and harsh sentencing of Casey Goonan may provide a glimpse of things to come.

Dupuy, Rolf (1946-2025)

From Libcom by Nick Heath

A short account of the life of Rolf Dupuy, one of the founders of the French ORA and an important historian of anarchism. I was shocked to hear news of the death of Rolf Dupuy two days after his death. Rolf was one of the founders of the French ORA, and later animator of the Dictionnaire International des Militants Anarchistes, a huge online resource in the French language, on biographies of libertarian militants around the world. I had first met his acquaintance whilst attending congresses of the ORA in the 1970s. I communicated with him on and off, offering biographies, corrections, and additions over the last decade or so, and he solicited my own biography from me, which duly appeared online in 2010. As well as the Dictionnaire, he also was behind another online endeavour, Dictionnaire des guérilleros et résistants antifranquistes (Dictionary of Anti-Francoist guerillas and resisters), which he jointly initiated with Antonio Tellez Sola.
