Modern-day anarchism isn’t what it used to be

from The Globe and Mail by Robert Hough.

One thing I’ve found about being a novelist is that the profession, while gluing you to a chair for the majority of your life, can also, on occasion, place you in unusual situations. Case in point: In September I published a novel which dramatizes anarchist Emma Goldman’s plot to assassinate the Gilded Age industrialist Henry C. Frick... As such, I recently found myself with a table at an event called the Hamilton Anarchist Bookfair, which is held every September at the Workers Arts and Heritage Centre.

Seattle Anarchist Bookfair brings zines, books, and a politic of bravery to Seattle Center

From The Daily

For the past month or so, black-and-white printer paper posters, wheatpasted to telephone poles around the U-District and beyond, have advertised the annual Seattle Anarchist Bookfair. Packed with attendees and the passion of self-publishing, the event brought together over 40 tablers, with zines, books, stickers, bookmarks, t-shirts, and posters, often for free or priced by suggested donation.

Anarchist Roots vs Authoritarian Reality of Maoism

From Rethinking the World in East Asia 1850s-1990s

Of all the ideological contradictions within Maoism, none is more profoundly ironic than its relationship with Anarchism. The core conflict between the two can be defined as a centralised vanguardism vs decentralised spontaneity. But the true irony lies not just in their methodological divergence, but in the complete reversal of Mao’s own stance. A central paradox is revealed, as Mao’s quest to destroy one form of authority became a reproduction of the very power it sought to overthrow.

North Macedonia: Manifesto of the Anarchist Collective Smokva

From Athens Indymedia

The Anarchist Collective Smokva (lit. "Fig") is a group of people who gathered with a strong will for a space that's social, political, and friendly, as well as a more humane model of living. Driven by the desire for mutual aid, horizontal friendship, and direct action, we have gathered, not to represent, but to act; not to talk in someone else's name, but to talk together; not to imitate what exists, but to experiment and create possibilities.

Spanish Civil War – Social War

From Social Ecology and Communalism Workshop

Let’s say, for convenience’s sake, that it was a little over thirty years ago. Let’s say I was in my twenties and was just coming out of my shell, very late in life. That is, from a long adolescence and a modest family background where both cultural and political deserts reigned. Let’s say, finally, that there was this fundamental encounter with a couple of friends that made me veer off course and glimpse the shores of the continent of Anarchy—and its eldest daughter: the Spanish Revolution.

When there is no interest in dialogue – ABC-Belarus again excluded from Berlin bookfair

A year and a half ago, we published a bigger text titled “When ideology stands in the way of solidarity” about how certain anarchist groups in various Western European countries manipulate facts to exclude Eastern European anarchists from discussions about the war in Ukraine.

Solidarity with the Archipelago of Fire!

On October 17, 2025, anarchist groups such as the CATL and Cruz Negra, along with Radio Zapote and others, gathered near the Indonesian embassy
in a wealthy Mexico City neighborhood to proclaim solidarity for anarchists persecuted and imprisoned by the state. Surrounded by police filming and intimidating us, we shared food with the community while we disseminated information about the crackdown against anarchist activists
in Indonesia.

Anarchist News Interview

Uncivilized Podcast Interviews ANews

I can't help but open with our usual: hello, everyone, this is Artxmis with the uncivilized podcast. For those that do not know, the uncivilized project has come to an indefinite hiatus and has been taken offline. The original hiatus began out of a lack of interest on behalf of the creators. The taking down of the podcast happened because some members of the group behind the project feel intimidated by the trump's administration's growing venom towards anarchists and other "unamerican" elements. Before these decisions were made, I reached out to thecollective, an anonymous coalition that helps manage and moderate the site, and we were able to do an asynchronous interview. What you will read is the text version of that interview. Much love & many thanks to members of thecollective who participated and were very patient for this to come together.

Denmark: Sabotage of three machines against the Novo Nordisk Motorvej

From de.indymedia.org

A month ago the machines started attacking the forests. The biggest machine was attacked and eventually died after being stuffed with concrete and drowned with bleach. It stood still for 2 weeks under a ring of old oaks, blocking a road and preventing those trees from being cut. A smaller machine cutting down the smaller trees was also visited. Its air filters were removed and its exhaust was filled with concrete.

White lotus, red turbans, black flags: revolutionary buddhist heretics

from No Selves, No Masters

Hello, my patient readers. Believe it or not, the work continues behind the scenes. Among other things, I have been interested in revisiting the pre-modern historical roots of Buddhist Anarchism. This is because I have clarified my historiographical methods. Instead of searching for analogues of Anarchism in the distant past long before it was developed I will look for its ancestors. This helps us avoid anachronism and the pitfalls of projecting modern ideologies onto the people of the past.

Demanding nothing less than everything – In memory of Kyriakos Xymitiris

From Act for Freedom Now! - Berlin, Germany

October 31 marks one year since the day in 2024 when our friend and comrade Kyriakos Xymitiris lost his life in the afternoon in an apartment on Arkadias Street, Athens. He died as an anarchist revolutionary, who chose armed struggle, when a bomb in his hands exploded.

Marius Mason Update

From Anarchist Agency by Panagioti Tsolkas, art by Marius Mason

This update on political prisoner Marius Mason is published by Agency in collaboration with Fifth Estate Magazine.

Earlier this year, Marius Mason — an anarchist, environmental and animal rights activist, vegan, artist, and trans advocate — was denied his scheduled gender affirming surgery by the Trump administration and transferred to a women’s prison. The Republican candidate’s campaign spent $27 million on ads condemning gender affirming care for prisoners and the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) quickly remanded those detained back to prisons corresponding to the gender they were assigned at birth.
