As students prepare to return to an increasingly dystopian learning environment, it’s a good time to revisit our assumptions about education itself. What is the purpose of our educational institutions? How deeply do the premises of those institutions shape the ways that we approach learning, even in our “free time”? How else might we go about developing and exploring our capacities?

On July 15th 2021, people took to the streets in the Iranian province of Khouzestan to protest against the lack of water due to government mismanagement. Since then, despite the Iranian state’s brutal repression, the uprising has spread all over the country.

This was a collaboration with The Federation of Anarchism Era & Antimidia.

Susa Valley: former customs squatted in Claviere, statement against all borders

Today 31 july 2021, we have occupied Claviere’s ex customs, the Dagona Occupata. The building place that represented both border’s control and repression, and free circulation of products and tourists, now becomes a self-organized refuge, a space for political organization and direct solidarity, free and open to everyone.

Following recent protest action at Maghaberry Prison, the family of John Paul Wootton are now calling upon the current Director General of the Northern Ireland Prison Service, Ronnie Armour, to intervene to help end the ongoing acts of discrimination against their son, brother, uncle and miscarriage of justice victim, John Paul Wootton.

On behalf of John Paul, the family have launched a letter and email campaign which directly highlights the issues behind the ongoing acts of discrimination he faces on a daily basis, while being held within Maghaberry.

A Letter from the Editor

Considering I’m a writer, I always seem to have an astounding lack of ability to come up with what to say in response to amazing events happening to or around me. What I can say is that when I was given the idea for an anarchist poetry magazine in early 2021 (which of course soon expanded into the idea for an anarchist poetry, short fiction, and visual art magazine), I had no idea that just a few months later I would be putting together 25 incredible literary and artistic works into an issue to be released at the start of August that same year.

Here are five episodes of articles from Fifth Estate, by listener request. Immediatism intends to feature still-relevant articles from back-issues of both AJODA and Fifth Estate as regular programming from now on, right along with the books from Little Black Cart and other publishers/distros, and -- of course!-- listener requests.

Long ago when Anews and related projects were in their infancy the topic of Banning was explored to discuss and develop ideas for physical spaces and to also consider how anarchists might employ these ideas to the online space as well. All these years later many anarchists are still grappling with the idea of banning so it seemed a good time to recompose and revisit the original topic...

The Antiuniversity is an ongoing programme of self-organised radical learning and mutual education events. It is a collaborative experiment to challenge academic and class hierarchy – in, outside and against existing institutional structures. Anyone can organise an Antiuni event in any format, anywhere! For 2021, we are joining forces with the Anarchist Bookfair in London to bring together a week-long Antiuniversity Festival from the 4th to the 10th of September and the Anarchist Bookfair in London on the 11th and 12th of September.
