TOTW: Determinism

Robert Sapolsky’s 2023 Detemined: A Science of Life Without Free Will is a recent major influence on me. Sapolsky, a neuroscientist, argues free will either does not exist or at best, exists at a lower rate than we like to believe. Sapolsky’s previous book, Behave states, “And [human behavior] is indeed a mess, a subject involving brain chemistry, hormones, sensory cues, prenatal environment, early experience, genes, both biological and cultural evolution, and ecological pressures, among other things.”

Is the labor movement a socialist/anarchist movement?

From Organise! Magazine by Zaher Baher

Authoritarian socialists, communists, and even some anarchists believe that the labor movement and the socialist/anarchist movement are the same and share identical goals. In this article, I want to show that there is a difference between these movements and to explain how this misunderstanding arises. This does not mean that the working class which drives the country’s economy should be overlooked. On the contrary, we can say that a socialist or anarchist revolution cannot take place without the participation of the working class and the vital role it plays.

A wall of electronic eyes replacing human feeling

From Freedom News UK by Rob Ray

We’re caught in a lose-lose situation in the modern media world: refusal lessens our reach, engaging sets us up as targets

A couple of friends of mine, hailing from an end of the anarchist scene where skipping and shoplifting are more common, were telling me about their experiences from this venerable part of the rebel lifestyle recently.

Beneath the Prairie, the Concrete

What follows is a report on the organizing context in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in light of the political repression surrounding, but not exclusive to, the Prairieland Defendants. This comes after we were asked to present on anti-ICE organizng in Chicago and DFW by comrades in the Zizania feminist squat in Athens. At the bottom we offer the best ways to provide solidarity to Prairieland Defendants, but you can find the most up-to-date support website via prairielanddefendants.com. We also highly encourage you to share the zine version of this report available here in both US letter and A4 sizes.

Competence Didn't Stop Us, So Why Would Incompetence?

Word on the street is that the FBI is gathering info on mutual aid groups and individuals that just don’t support that thin-skinned orange manbaby currently occupying that poorly designed white building in the fascist capital of the world.

Anti-war resistance in Russia and anarchists

From avtonom

Thousands of Russians have been fighting against the invasion to Ukraine. During first month of protests against the war, 15 000 people were detained. Small street actions are still sporadically taking place, although they are heavily persecuted. More than 300 people have been imprisoned for anti-war activities, including six anarchists and antifascists. What are the current anti-war initiatives in Russia to follow? How to support Russian anti-war movement, which is operating in more and more repressive circumstances? Why Russian anti-war movement has this far failed to change the course of war? Who are the current anarchist and anti-fascists prisoners in Russia, and how to support them?
