On August 26, 2026, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, through OFAC - the bureau that manages and enforces economic and financial sanctions -, sanctioned Autistici/Inventati (A/I), an Italian collective that since 2001 has provided digital infrastructure to movements and activists: email, hosting, mailing lists, chat, videoconferencing, streaming, and services related to privacy and anonymity. Washington designated it as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT), claiming that it provided financial, material or technological support to terrorism and to organizations already under sanctions. A/I rejects the accusations and maintains that its work consists of providing tools for digital self-defense and infrastructure for the freedom of communication.

Our comrades on the ground report that legal aid institutions—including LBH and YLBHI—have been reluctant to actively represent detainees arrested in protests labeled as “anarchist,” unless they are already viral or well-known activists.

OK. A tool for whom though?

AI wasn't invented when capitalism went hunting for a “neutral” technology to misuse for evil. Capital develops and deploys destructive technologies according to capital's own needs: extraction, commodification, surveillance, control, and making everyone more economically useful and subservient to the ruling class.

Since the far-right Abelardo de la Espriella government took control of the Colombian state, his situation — which was already very bad — has gotten even worse. The Colombian state is restricting food supplies, inflicting severe hunger and thirst in an attempt to undermine the health of Johann and others imprisoned across the country after fighting for dignity and freedom.
