TOTW: Anarchist "Practicalism"

Following up on last week's TOTW, I wanted to discuss the relationship between language, anarchism, and the limitations of practicality.  In a recent Food Not Bombs meeting when someone said our work was revolutionary, I countered what seemed self-evident to me, "Well, feeding poor folks isn't really revolutionary." I didn't mean we ought not to do it, but the other person seemed to believe so, "So, you think we shouldn't be doing it?" For my view on FnB, the work isn't revolutionary, but is still good. This is especially true when the work is focused less on the "mutual" and more on the "aid" (a larger conversation that can't take place here), mirroring more charity work than the radical reciprocal style proposed by FnB-ists.

From Fox News

'Don't feel bad. I thought it was a fair about cookbooks,' GOP state representative quipped

Art and anarchy in troubled times

From Eurozine by Maria Sorensen

In resisting authoritarianism, contemporary artists may risk more than severe backlashes – their lives may also end up on the line: in Ukraine, the anarchist transforms into a soldier; in Belarus, they are imprisoned. And when the Russian state is your homeland, avoiding conscription and attention becomes a mark of resistance.

Realism in Revolt

From New Politics by Daphne Lawless

I follow William Gillis—veteran anarchist activist and writer, and trained physicist—on Bluesky, because he’s funny and because he makes me think. If you share his burning hatred for fascism, a sneering (remember that word) contempt for establishment liberalism, and deep disgust for Stalinists, “tankies” and other authoritarian Leftists, I’d recommend it. It also helps if you like Star Wars and Star Trek.

Abolition Media Announcement About the End of the Project

The Autistici/Inventati project indefinitely suspended their operations after the US regime's ominous threats and repression. Since this project hosted Abolition Media, this means our project has effectively ended by default.

The Left that's Left

From Surviving Leviathan by Peter Gelderloos

What is the Left likely to do in the immediate future, and what is its relationship to the unfolding catastrophe that is most visible in the economic crisis, the ecological crisis, increasing repression, the criminalization of trans and latina people, and ongoing wars and genocides around the world? My goal is to answer those questions with a useful, accurate critique of the Left.

The Woman by Lucia Mancini

From The Transmetropolitan Review

Lucia Mancini was likely born in or around Potenza, Italy in 1884. She immigrated to the US with her brother Eustacchio in 1900, eventually settling in Lynn, Massachusetts where she began to read and support the Cronaca Sovversiva anarchist newspaper in 1905.

Lotta #2

From Anonymous

The previous issue was very well received. Thanks to the collaboration of groups from different parts of the world, the magazine was published not only in English but also in Czech, Hungarian, Italian, French and Spanish. Another result of this great interest is that the second issue of the Lotta newsletter has more pages and therefore contains more information.

Mexico: 3rd Interntnl Gathering of Anarchist & Anti-Authoritarian Practices vs Fascism, 12/18-20

From Athens Indymedia

With the intention of continuing to open spaces of tension, the International Gathering of Anarchist and Anti-Authoritarian Practices returns to the border territory occupied by the Mexican state, this time in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, from December 18 to 20, 2026. Due to the rise of the far right and the electoral trap that fascism has set across Abya Yala, its now urgent to create gathering spaces where the anarchist movement, its collectives and individuals, as well as like-minded antiauthoritarian collectives and organizations, can share strategies and tactics so that we are prepared to continue the struggle against fascism in our regions.
