On Tuesday night survey stakes were pulled up at a proposed townhouse development off N. Williams Ave in North Portland. This is an small act of solidarity with the uprising in Baltimore carried out in an effort to highlight the relationship between gentrification and the perpetuation of white supremacy, police repression, and displacement. The dispossessed of Baltimore are not alone in their desire to strike out against a society that is intolerable.
With schools closed in Baltimore on Tuesday, as a result of yesterday's riots, worker-owned Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse has stepped in to help. “We’re opening the space up as a safe place for students, and giving them a free lunch,” said book buyer Cullen Nawalkowsky. She added that she regards the city’s decision to close schools as “ill-advised” since, in part, many impoverished kids rely on free school lunches.
Early in the morning on April 28th flames engulfed a truck in a construction site across the street from the King County Juvenile Detention Center on 12th Ave. The constuction site is a new development being built by Spectrum Development Solutions, who are responsible for gentrifying 12th avenue and are involved in building the new youth jail. The trucks tire's were slashed, it's fuel lines were cut and then it was completely destroyed by fire. ;)
We wrecked the locks and windows of two empty OCF Realty properties near 20th and Reed in South Philadelphia. We did this because we are tired of living in a system that constructs houses for the rich, while poor and working class people get nothing but more police, more jails, more budget-cuts, more misery. Following the lead of the rebels of Ferguson and Baltimore, this is our small way of fighting back: causing economic damage to the property and capital of the rich. These tactics are not only possible, they are practical.
On 16 April 2015 a dynamic protest with an anarchist bloc took place, despite the provocations of the greek riot police operating under the left government of SYRIZA, in solidarity to the residents of Chalkidiki in northern Greece fighting against the destruction of their homes, the environment and the pollution of drinking water n their area due to gold mining operations.
May Day, or International Workers' Day, is an annual holiday which occurs on the first of May. Born out of fight for the eight-hour working day in Chicago and the state-sanctioned murder of the Haymarket Martyrs (History of May Day) May Day is celebrated today as a time for all members of the working class to stand united and show the bosses, landlords, and all of the ruling class that we are still not afraid.
On April 7, 2015 following a protest of 1.500 – 2.000 anarchists in the center of Athens, riots erupted in Exarchia to bring attention to a mass hunger strike of olitical prisoners taking place in Greece since March 2, 2015. At the moment (April 10) 8 anarchists still continue the hunger strike, some of them for the 40th day.
The political prisoners demand from the so-called left government of SYRIZA the
RESPECT to the strike defenders at UQAM and their allies. It was a full-day battle today (April 8), from early morning till late night. I only observed first-hand the crescendo tonite, after the intervention of what was clearly over 100+ riot police, backed up by bike cops, at the Da Sève Building occupation. The resilience of UQAM resisters is inspiring.
