Invitation to the NYC Anarchist BookFair 2017
The 11th Annual New York City Anarchist Book Fair will the place on Sat., May 13, at the Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan.
The book fair is committed to providing space for the anarchist community to gather, reflect, and build tools to move forward in the making of a really free world. This year, with the additional challenges posed by the far-right occupation of government and the direct threats it poses to immigrants and non-white groups, it's critical that we use the opportunity the book fair provides to further our oppositional ideas and actions. The book fair has always had the strong participation of immigrant anarchists from all over the world; now more than ever, we need to come together to support these groups and help give them a voice.
Every year, some 2,000 people visit the NYC Anarchist Book Fair and participate in its workshops, panels, skillshares, and other activities. This is a unique opportunity to further the work of our community.
It's in this spirit that we reach out to you now. The open call for proposals for workshops, panels, skillshares is now on our website; we would like to invite you to use it to send your ideas and initiatives for the bookfair collective to consider. You are also invited to attend our organizing meetings (the next will take place on Mon., March 6 at Judson). We would also like to invite you to join in organizing the arts, music, and film festivals that always accompany the book fair and to collaborate with us in logistical activities that include coordinating volunteers, running the kitchen, and childcare on the day of the book fair.
The NYC Anarchist Book Fair is part of the fabric of the anarchist community, in NYC and everywhere, and at this critical time, we hope every committed person can participate. We envision an anarchist community in which we collaborate and support each other based on our fundamental principles, whatever our disagreements. In the repressive, reactionary time we find ourselves in today, we know that autonomy, solidarity, and our dedication to resistance can only make us stronger.
We hope to collaborate with you, now and on May 13.
