Anyone know what this is? Is the library trying to tell the authoritative story of Anarchism, starting with ''Classical'' (''From Proudhon to eve of World War 2'', apparently) all the way up to the present day?
uhmmmm, i believe it's called "Categorizing Important Or Well Known Texts From The Early Anarchist Movements That, Whether You Like It Or Not, Have Characterized The Modern Movements That Call Themselves 'Anarchist.'" though, i am striked by the exclusion of people like Benjamin Tucker, who lived roughly at the same time as most of the people listed there, and the inclusion of Stirner who didn't even call himself an anarchist (not implying he should be excluded, of course).
I think the person that posted this ANews thread perhaps also posted the anonymous forum thread on SHH! THIS IS A LIBRARY! here:

Not to make you jump the ANews ship, but I've responded over there and will continue the conversation on the library forums.
as it stands, the anarchist library is telling the same old story that anarchism started with some french guy and ended when germany invaded poland
I wouldn't discount french anarchism in some reactionary way; the French anarchists ( and France is arguably where anarchism as an identifiable anti-political orientation began) took anarchy is very interesting directions.. Check out the LBC title "Disruptive Elements" for proof...
i've read it. great book. one of the best anthologies of A writing ever compiled.
don't expect to see it on one of the anarchist library's lists though...
TAL (like any other library) already makes choices defining how people understand the shape & history of anarchist ideas via its choices to include or exclude certain texts. those choices have already been controversial enough to produce a split years ago:

this also implicitly answers the commenter wondering about "the", since that network was built specifically to challenge TAL's presumed authority

plus of course there are countless offline libraries etc.
