First of all, I of all people do not make the "free from warfare" claim. In fact, the years since Jan 20, 2017 (actually Nov 8, 2016) have to me been three years of war in which I was almost killed twice. If you have to fight, it pays to also know how to negotiate, and to recognize the value of getting into a position from which you can negotiate from a position of strength.

If you are an anarchist you probably agree (whether you use these terms or not) that every person alive is a separate sovereign state and all organizations take the role of international alliances. In this scenario, "statecraft" is everyone's business. When war is everyone's business, diplomacy ought to also be everyone's business, as the greatest victory is to win without having to fight.

OK, let's use a personal example of one person (myself) acting as a unit of sovereignty: that grand jury in 2018. By refusing to submit to the subpeona, I was in effect exercising sovereign immunity, knowing full well what normally happens when an enemy's ultimatum is rejected. By burning the grand jury subpeona in front of the courthouse, I front-loaded the fight with a reminder that this was for all the marbles. With literal fire in my hands, I warned that there would be absolutely no cooperation-put up or shut up. At this point I was speaking from a position of power, and the other side quit immediately, knowing no grand jury resistor ever stands alone. That is how statecraft works at the micro level.

If the Kurdish people decide that keeping Turkey's terrorists off their land is more important than keeping yesterday's terrorists contained, they absolutely have the right and the power to make that decision. If the SDF respond to Turkish invasion by dumping their ISIS sewage in Trump's lap, that applies the one real pressure point they have against Trump. While Trump probably thinks a few more terror attacks from ISIS inside the US would be good for his career, I strongly suspect most "Representatives" and Senators think otherwise regardless of party. They in turn can block Trump's greenlight, thus keeping yesterday's terrorists under Kurdish guard and tomorrow's terrrorists behind Turkey's borders. This is how statecraft works at the macro level.

As it is on the street, so it is in the embassy.
