Anarchist Defendants in Network Case on Hunger Strike in Russia

From AMW English

The anarchist defendants in the Network case, Arman Sagynbaev, Dmitry Pchelintsev and Maxim Ivankin announced the beginning of a hunger strike.

At the trial, Arman Sagynbaev testified about the torture that the anarchists arrested in the Network case have faced.

“We were tortured, all our testimonies were false and were given not just because of threats and pressure, but because you feel as though skin is being removed from you alive… Yes, I was tortured with electric shock on November 5, 2017. I described the subject - it was a box of rectangular shape, brown, on which there were two regulators: voltage and current. They tied the wires to my big toes,” Sagynbaev said in court. Following him, the defendants Dmitry Pchelintsev and Maxim Ivankin announced a hunger strike.

Background on Network Case

In October 2017, Russian Special Services (FSB) fabricated a large-scale criminal case against anarchists and anti-fascists, whom they declared members of the terrorist organisation called The Network. Russian authorities allege that the accused planned and prepared terrorist acts to be conducted during the coming presidential elections in March 2018 and the World Cup over Summer the same year.

In Penza, Yegor Zorin, Ilya Shakursky, Vasily Kuksov, Dmitry Pchelintsev, Arman Sagynbaev and Andrei Chernov were detained. In St. Petersburg, the cops arrested Victor Filinkov and Igor Shishkin. The relatives of the arestees reported that their loved ones were tortured in order to extract confessions from them. All detainees in this case are in a difficult situation, under the threat of repetition of tortures, and very much need support and solidarity.
