Based only on my reading of her bio and autobiography, I wouldn't say "she fled in horror" from the early Soviet Union. But maybe she did (to take up a position of political opposition which was quite unpopular on the Left).

Sure I have done many stupid things. Most of what I have learned has been from making mistakes, more than I like to admit. And I have done a few things, personal and political, of which I am ashamed and disgusted. I don't think that is because I am a "hopeless dreamer." At least I do not think that the "beautiful dream" of human liberation is hopeless, although it may be improbable, if we are to make predictions. I think my problem is that I am a fallible, neurotic, human, formed by this society.
