because the state doesn't get your information through what is conventionally known as hacking. If the state seizes your smartphone or computer, then they will get your information. Me and my friends use signal not because of the encryption, but the ability to use wifi gives us a work around our low-quality cell service. If the state took my cell phone, they wouldn't need to decrypt anything, they'd just have to be able to use my phone as i do.

To point out an internet security cliche, the biggest threat to your security is you. In other words, if you are in fact a terrorist, or the state would want to lock you in jail for any reason, then it's a lot more important to think about who you report your deeds and mischief too.

Of course, the NSA could hypothetically hack any individuals computer, but first they have to choose one, and this is a daunting task. The oldest and most reliable hacking technique is social engineering, and that is what the state uses on us every single day.
