Anarchy Radio 07-05-2022

Who's posting JZ this week?! It wasn't me, I swear!!! This post is not on-brand!!!

From https://johnzerzan.net/radio/

Mass shootings, of course. Independence Day or "Hostage Nation"? Unarmed Wayland Parker shot 60+ times in Akron. Some shoot back. iPhone is 15 years old: "almost impossible to conceive what a world without smartphones would look like." More extreme, erratic weather. "Not post traumatic stress disorder. It's ongoing stress disorder." As society can no longer hide its ugly, empty, oppressive features as anarchist energy seems to be emerging. CHAGS preview.

I, for one, still don't care to see anarchy radio posts. No need to have these make a comeback here.

It's good to see that the Anews Collective has matured enough to admit they were wrong and resume posting announcements about John and his great show. John is a great gift to the anarchist milieu. Anarchy Radio fuck yeah!

lol, are you slow to catch on? ever notice how not every single episode of every other podcast is posted?

Great episode. Thanks, John!

Maybe an Anarchy Radio + Anews Podcast crossover?

Who wrote the blurb? It's Jayland Walker not wayland parker, omg

ramble is right! this old man continues his self-referential spiral into irrelevance every time he opens his mouth. his one-trick pony show has been exactly the same for the past 25 years, only the statistics change. what a waste of intellect and talent. he's the Jordan Peterson of anarchists.

No. John is an innovator and consistently intelligent anarchist voice from within an otherwise crumbling milieu. It’s no fault of John’s that his correct contributions to anti-civ anarchist thought and scholarship are falling on ears deafened by cynics of surrender and short attention span technophiles.

John probably should walk away from the milieu entirely and watch it destroy itself but he’s a good and decent person that is trying to help. What have you done?

that's an interesting take! i'd say zerzan is a perfect example of the crumbling milieu exactly because he DID "walk away" and focus on marginal media projects ... furthermore, afaik, the milieu is almost entirely comprised of marginal, stagnant anarchist media projects?

like ... that's why it's "crumbling"? ... in the same way that you go to a street demo and there's more camera people than actual participants in the demo. because the spectacle has long since devoured all of us, digested, pooped out and fertilized more spectacle.

the all singing, all dancing crap of the selfie! in this case, crotchety old man broadcasts his morning coffee ritual, fretting about the state of the world from the arm chair.

"because he DID "walk away" and focus on marginal media projects"

Is this what writing actual fucking books, essays, giving talks, and doing a weekly radio show are to you?

Don't think the Fight Club reference is lost on me but the joke is that not any one of the Space Monkeys actually read the texts that influenced their batshit leader's philosophy. They just obeyed a charismatic personality. Because men.

People should actually read John's BOOKS before making such strong opinions about them known on the interwebs.

"Spectacle devouring us"

Yes.

"Is this what writing actual fucking books, essays, giving talks, and doing a weekly radio show are to you?"

yes. unequivocally, yes. the importance of media projects is ... self evidently overvalued.

know why i think that? review previous topic of "the crumbling milieu".
think maybe it needs more media projects? not me.

i mean, whatever. if that's your thing, fill your boots.
i don't much care what other anarchists choose to believe is effective.

What is your proposed alternative, lumpy? What effective anarchy do your comrades fill their boots with?

efficacy isn't something anarchists these days seem to be preoccupied with where i'm from...

anyway, i never seem to make this point without that exact response, so may I ask if you personally spend a lot of energy creating anarchist media? i'm certainly not trying to stand in your way, if so. just a remark, not prescriptive, etc.

oh and if your answer is yes, do you think that question is ... neutral?

Jordan Peterson? Low blow. Not comparable. I think I’ve enjoyed JZ’s appearances in other youtubers’ channels and show who have interviewed him and debated with him. He’s much more fired up and energetic then, you can see his passion in that format. The comfy format of his radio show is much more laid back, it’s like if you recorded your grandpa reading his newspaper while he had his breakfast on a Saturday. It could use some shaking up or change of pace, but what’s the need? He’s settled-in and set in his ways, not trying to people-please or entertain.

or educate, or provoke, or expand, or innovate... he begs for people to call him but only the ones who have nothing to say that is half-way challenging, much less critical.

why should anyone want to listen to a repetitive grandfather talk about liberal shit week after week, especially in the name of anarchy?

His failure for primitivism was he never tried having a working model like an island or community living without modern industrial/agricultural/medical which he could advertise as a working model. I mean a SIGNIFICANT model, with maybe 5000 participants, because this is at least more than the petty 30 peron hippy colony examples which don't hold up because of the hippy habit of introducing excessive romanticist paraphernalia, their sentiments, and Western cooking appliances!
With the data he could have instigated a type of TAZ /Primitivist Occupation based Return to Earth type popular movement but alas, he descended into demogogory!
FAIL!!

You’ve clearly never read Zerzan if you think these are the central areas of his scholarship. Grow the fuck up. There’s wood to be chopped somewhere.

Heh, take it easy on the kid, he's got enough worries about his OWN survival, unless you meant that he's chopping his OWN wood for the coming winter, brilliant metaphor for the future of civilization, in fact, you are prophetic. Can you imagine yourself gorging on cold lentil burgers in a fireless cave during a blizzard?

Agriculture and controlled fire? Fuck that civ shit, noob. We have canine teeth for ripping and tearing.

And a stone cold heart,
Tearing at the feelings of,
Meak Neanderthals!

Neanderthals go brrr
Chop wood and make pikes
For your heads!

that's not a haiku, which is three stanzas of 5-7-5 syllables. you've written a three-line doggerel, that's all. poet harder.

fuck your racist appropriative colonialism

Fuck moralist spooks,
Never a truer word said,
Stuff Stirner would say!

Nice tu queue/appeal to hypocrisy. FAIL! You do know it's practically impossible to colonize/take over an island without the state reacting, right? That island has potential resources the state rather have control over and has geopolitical interests for the state. Where the heck is he supposed to get 5,000 anarchist primitivists to successfully colonize an island and create a model out of? What are you, like 12? What you wrote sounds similar to colonialism. Okay. Since he didn't start a popular movement and colonize an island then he is a demagogue? Wat? Popular movements don't start because of some guy with data. It's simply not how reality functions. It takes a lot of people, with or without this data, to "instigate" this popular movement. It's deeply ironic you mention romanticism. It's very delish.

I'll start at the end and work backwards, yes delish, cos Romanticism at least acknowledged an aesthetic first person perspective on life forms.
Terms like "colonialism" are obsolete within the present corporate globalist paradigm and if any idea worth its salt cannot immediately attract 5,000 volunteers prepared to die for its realization isn't worth following anyway.
The legality of occupying any of the 1.3 million islands on this planet is not prohibited.

"...isn't worth following anyway..."

that pretty much sums up your perspective, eh? follower till the death.

"follower till the death." You've taken this out of context because the deaths I describe are from diseases, traumatic injuries, and malnutrition from not accepting Western medicine, not from a desire to be a religious martyr.

"with maybe 5000 participants, because this is at least more than the petty 30 peron hippy colony examples which don't hold up because of the hippy habit of introducing excessive romanticist paraphernalia"

Well jsyk, there's an island in the middle of the Indian ocean that's been completely autonomous since there were humana there, and over time they had a population ranging from 30 to about a 100. They are no hippies afaik, but are primmies with a tradition of shooting arrows at onlookers coming too close.

Some Euro tourist idiots also got killed for going on a douche hiking trip on the island not long ago... So yeah this stuff is feasible.

The Whiteway Colony in England was also a very hippie-like autonomous community that lasted for roughly the whole 20th century. There's a text about it on the T@L.

John's radio show is mostly harmless re-readings of NYT & various other articles from the week. Fine.

My issue with the rest of JZ's oeuvre is that he has a hard-on for anthropologists, he uses quotes from sources that bolster his argument but that are out of context and often mean (in their original context) something different than his point and, for someone touting 'primitivism' he still sounds like a western educated man with all his deep assumptions unchecked.
Like in his opinion piece (posted on anews last week) he points to Robin Kimmerer as saying words to the effect of 'we must go back' but if one listens to the actual interview, she says no such thing. She says we must start from where we are and start listening to the elders of the world ie trees etc.

He would rather listen to anthropologists than indigenous people and that is a big red flag.

John's so anti-entrepreneurial instead of being anti-authoritarian, comes from being influenced by Jainist religious principles, but I digress, yes, no 1st person imagination, so common amongst academics. Why didn't the dolt just run an archery club so budding primmies at least had a chance of eating if they went the whole wild connect to ancestors thing!?

I hope John's scratchy throat and cough is better. This was a great episode.

His mom gave him a herbal throat elixir* when he got home from the academy.

*A European feudal peasant concoction made from mint and sage, NOT a post-modern cocaine derived Primitivist numbing agent!!

I see JZ is still a great uniter for the trolletariat on this site!

But what is Thecollective is trolling YOU, like in Soviet Anarchia!?
