Individualist anarchism in the 21st century: is called, the United States of 'Murika.

"The pretensions of anarchism in its individualist form have always been laughable." (Debord, Society of the Spectacle)

paradoxically so, as an individual, you chose an individual's opinion, to criticise another individual..., some contradictions are laughable indeed

p.s. unless debord is some kind of god in your universe, in which case we are all doomed...

So said a notoriously narcissistic egoist, huh! Radleftists are so high on their horses with the condescending toward individualists it feels like they're really just actually hating on any potential competitors of themselves.

What is so different between an individualist and collectivist: the former cares more about developing their personal strengths and autonomy than using weak-minded others as their personal crutches.

check this shit out tho, get ready to have your miiinnnd blooowwwn maaan

collectives are made up of individuals and how they relate to each other could easily be oriented around developing their personal strengths, so as to make the collective mightier than any individual maaan, almost like society maaan but like... better?

or probably worse but MAYBE ... better? but probably worse. idk i've been hurt a lot of times, ok?!

Signed, the mighty individualists Ayn Rand and Charles Koch.

You obviously didn't read from Rand and Koch wasn't even an author, you Leftard. You might as well equate the development of individual strenght & autonomy to Ragnar Redbeard while you're at it... why just stopping at Rand?

Can't believe how much of a pain in the ass it's become to find a download link for the actual audio file of a podcast. Those hosted on libsyn are an exception.

Then get a wifi-only tablet or emulate an Android OS in your laptop?

I get too many anarchist celebs these days are sloppy at using tech alternatives to Big Tech. There's Radio4All but it looks like they didn't update their website's interface since 2001, lol.

These proposed solutions further demonstrate "how much of a pain in the ass it's become to find a download link for the actual audio file of a podcast"

  • Try yt-dlp.
  • Learn to use your browser's inspector. The audio files are all available.
  • Refuse to consume so-called anarchist content if they host it on corporate infrastructure and/or require compromising your privacy. And tell the so-called anarchists that use corporate infrastructure for their content to find anarchist alternatives.

Also, fuck Spotify and anyone who uses it willingly. Everyone knows how Spotify treats musicians.
Fuck ! Spotify! Fuck ! Spotify!

The best they'll answer with at (3) is "we'll look into it, thanks!".

I mean how can "anarchists" don't know there"s an internet outside of Fedbook and that podcasting wasn't invented by Spotify?

I agree with Sophie on many aspects including how anarchiam is a rather ordinary way to relate to others. Problem with thr ordinary, tho, is how it lies next door to conformity, normativity, and all the dumb, self-defeating options these two provide.

So anarchism has also gotta be about an inquiry... that seeks ALTERNATIVE paths to the false solutions offered by the society of control.

The alternative somehow got thrown under the bus with the social media era.

My point sails over the one on the top of your head.

What you are about is a more feeble version of the prevailing way of seeing things in mainstream capitalist America. It is not any kind of rebellion against anything.

Case closed.

anon (not verified) Mon, 09/16/2024 - 21:06

In reply to by anon (not verified)

Yes, individualist anarchism was invented by Randian American capitalism. Case closed.

Got somepin against that? Then get yer comment removed! I am right coz the goalposts are in my favor. CASE CLOSED!

EmmaAintDead Mon, 09/16/2024 - 16:33

It's a bit difficult to take this extraordinarily dry and distant academic discussion seriously when it's taking more time to advertise itself as a capitalist endeavor (Spotify! Patreon! Kofi! Twitter!) than trying to communicate to the audience what the show is about.

Two intellectuals sniffing each other's asses. Not a single audio engineer or producer to be found. Best of luck, I suppose. Listening to interviews like this make me infinitely more grateful for the anews podcast.

"I am truly free only when all human beings around me, men and women, are equally free. The freedom of the other, far from being a limit or the negation of my freedom, is, on the contrary, its necessary condition and its confirmation. Only the freedom of others makes me truly free, such that the more numerous the free men around me, and the more extensive and broader their freedom, the greater and more profound my freedom will become. On the contrary, it is the slavery of men that puts a barrier to my freedom...."
--Mikhail Bakunin

Yea, well borders and nations are also way oppressive barriers to freedom. Like, say, when Ukrainians want to avoid getting drafted or migrants try to go through the country then into Fortress Europe by Poland...

But looking outside the UkWaynian sphere, around here the Winter is also quite a huge, non man-made hindrance to my freedom too. It's true that you gotta work for a living... which doesn't have to mean wage slavery, but also chopping wood and getting the food and water to.survive, and the nastier aspect of getting into good relations with neighbors. Freedom is a construct, built by the Will to Power.

Bakunin, the co-founder of revolutionary anarchism, expressed nationalist-racist views of Germans in general, which at times led to anti-Semitic statements. This was especially during his pre-anarchist, pan-Slavic, period. But these statements broke out from time to time, even in his later anarchist period--particularly when arguing against Marx and other German (and Jewish) social democrats. After his death, when World War I broke out, a few influential anarchists, including Kropotkin, supported the imperialist Allies, partly out of similar irrational hatred of Germans.

There is no excuse for this. It is a blot on his memory and is in gross contradiction to his internationalist, humanist, and libertarian teachings. This does not mean, as the writer implies, that all the rest of his work should be rejected. Bakunin made great contributions to the struggle for freedom, which should be remembered even as his failing should be condemned.

For example, his advocacy of national self-determination for oppressed peoples. He distinguished between the states (which he opposed) and the peoples' "homelands" (which he defended). “I feel, frankly and always, the patriot of all the oppressed homelands.”

Wayne Price (not verified) Mon, 09/30/2024 - 17:22

In reply to by anon (not verified)

No, anarchism is irredeemably libertarian, committed to radical, participatory, democracy (that is, collective self-management), free association, decentralization, pluralism, federalism, individual initiative, and social experimentation.

Bakunin had elitist and authoritarian elements in his thinking, which decreased during his development into anarchist-socialism. But he made important contributions which live on long after his flaws have been overcome.
