I'm thinking about starting a podcast on aging well as an anarchist—how we navigate the second half of life outside of capitalist, statist, and patriarchal frameworks. Some of the questions I’d love to explore include: How do we build intergenerational relationships that aren’t just about passing down wisdom but mutual exchange? What does it mean to age without the safety nets of state or corporate systems while resisting capitalist elder exploitation? How do we cultivate autonomy and dignity while dealing with health and mobility challenges? What does an anarchic approach to death, dying, and grief look like? And—perhaps most importantly—how do we make sure our later years are still wild, creative, and full of play? Right now, I’m considering calling it Untamed Elders or Untamed Auntie—which do you prefer? Still Wild? Or do you have other ideas? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the concept!

I've set it up with the name Anomalous Auntie. Very interested in suggestions for readings/topics.

Great idea. Even though I don't listen to podcasts, since I'm not a booj white, I'm looking forward to this one.

Fuck yeah, fellow anarchOld!

Just wanted to add the link in case anyone else came here from the mention on the Anews podcast looking for the new project. https://anomalousauntie.space/

Perhaps this is outside of the scope of what you aim to do with the project but hearing some of the topics you hope to cover: death, grief, health, autonomy, mobility etc. Along with the topic of cross-generational dialogue, at least what I find interesting is the cross section of all these topics. That while most people may experience some of these topics "with age" and view them as concerns of "the old", a lot of these topics can be/are things that "the youth" also deal with. Whether that be mobility issues also faced by younger disabled people, or dealing with the death of peers in younger communities. Depending on how much you want the focus to be on this idea of "intergenerational relationships" focusing on this overlap, but also where the experiences of these things may differ, I think would be an interesting avenue to explore.

Can you point me to what is pedo in the poster or their site? Haven't seen anything supporting that accusation thus far.

They are a known Anews pedophile pest and ex-NAMBLA supporter that likes to try slip it into the anarchist conversation (and children, apparently). Most of their shit has been deleted from this site because it always devolves into gotchas and entrapment.

Is your reading comprehension that bad or are you just caping as per usual? I am reading this from within a supermax on a cellular phone I smuggled in my rectum and even I understand they are not talking about Cory. Also "evidence" is cop shit and this is not a trial. We are anarchists and we have memories. Use the search function or any search engine if you're that interested or stfu yourself, brow.

9:02, it's cute that you think that wild accusations are so clear when two people have been mentioned and NO EVIDENCE, much less proof, has been given.

everyone lives inside your head, or is supposed to, i guess?

According to this shit troll, you can slander and bullshit others as much as your ressentiment allows, and let's not provide evidence for the claims as this would mean be being a cop.

...as if cops totally aren't engaged in slandering and bullshitting on a regular basis. Which is the funniest part of that batshit narrative.

Agreed, Stinky. Insightful! I settled on using the phrase "second half" of life hoping even that would be relatable, as we are all living the second half of our experiences thus far. What you said is exactly what I hope for.

I see, Stinky. I used elders in this original post while working out the concept. I regret that in fact because exploring my motivation to do the podcast I quickly realized...what you said. On another note, thriving and hope you are as well. This podcast is queued for shortly....

As someone who is well past the middle of my life, I have a comment.

You make too sharp a disjunction between living like an anarchist, "to age without the safety nets of state or corporate systems," and using those "safety nets" (Social Security, union-won workplace pensions, Medicare, etc.). Young or old we must live as freely as we can while adjusting to the overwhelming reality of the existing society. The question is always how we adjust and how we live as freely (as anarchistically) as we can.

And yes, I prefer "elder" to "senior" (but not "elderly"!).

hi comrades
here's an old dutch punk's penny's worth. I would love to listen to your podcast or contribute even, if we can talk about how to organise a self-sufficient community outside of the state? if we want to turn this tide, I think that should be our first priority before our economies completely break down. I am early 50s, I have a mental health differability, I'm trans and an immigrant in the UK and on the dole. I am looking for ppl to found one. I've read a little about irish history and an anarchist society existed before colonisation, so you guys should be experts. I'm keen to learn more and discuss how this can be achieved. check out more about me at https://gifsartidote.life

This is a good idea. Inter-generatioinal relations are issues in many social movements, not only anarchist. As Dutch comrade's comments evince, there are many perspectives internationally (EU I know a bit) which might be less BS-inflected than in USA. E.g., yay@flautas Madrid are long-time elder activists on the streets rain or shine, veterans of many left formations. As for ENG podcast guests, you might also look to archives like Kate Sharpley, Interference, and Labadie for suggestions of elders who have recently donated their papers to those repositories. Harvest the wisdom; catch 'em while they're still alive! (Sorry your comments veered so decisively off course. Sorry for us all... New zine cawshinythings.com has texts discussing this fractious carping tendency.)

I love these comments and literally popped in to turn off the thread and not disappoint people since I haven't gotten going on this yet, but can't bear to turn the thread off today. If it even can be. Look, I'm starting a second masters degree shortly (applied data analytics), have a multi-procedure surgery in 10 days, work full time, and just keep pushing the timeline for this project. I had solidified the concept and put the site up when I thought I didn't have many years left to live and was really facing my mortality. Now that's off the table in the immediate sense, and I'm back to long term planning my professional development, retirement planning in the basic sense of what am I going to now/shortly to ensure I can put food on my table in my old age. So life is unfolding and the podcast project has taken a back seat for now. I like the conversation. Maybe someone will scoop this idea and get their podcast on these topics going before I get mine in motion. That would be outstanding and I would wish that person well.

The anonymity and open ended nature of them preserves some of the childish excitement that is so lacking in modern day adulthood, at least for those of us who have been pressured into a daunting/grey sense of obligation to others, and for me personally, an extreme fear of other people and the kinds of things they can surprise you with.

Unfortunately, I used to get excited about anti-capitalism, or that maybe one day I would be the terrorist on the news. These fantasies did drive me to read a lot of anarchist content, to really contemplate if or if it wasn't possible to change the world. However, I have genuinely lost most interest in anarchist projects, as the comment section here (and the articles) have taught me that people who call themselves anarchists aren't that different from cops and boot-licking fuckers in suits. They all want to limit and channel your possibilities for fun, and the most effective way anyone can do this is with nagging humiliation and shaming that eats away at you, day after day. Unfortunately, anarchism does seem to be a little bit of a depressing coming-of-age type thing rather than a timeless activity not restricted by borders and laws.

However, I am glad to see you have such a full life, and I do appreciate that spark of enthusiasm in your eye.

"...outside of capitalist, statist, and patriarchal frameworks."

Hmmmmmmm...

So, somehow, unlike 340-million-plus people in this society, you aspire to totally drop-out, and somehow have no engagement with the larger society around you?

This sounds like something that has never escaped its origins in idealist philosophy, is totally self-involved in a very United States kind of way, and is certainly not particularly revolutionary or subversive. Although the declining energies and debilities imposed on us by advancing age might serve as a somewhat understandable excuse.
