“It is a real contradiction to talk of joy seriously.” - Alfredo Bonanno

Topic of the Week – The bloom lives inside the bloom and everything blurs under its effect, lost in the inconsequential wavering of society! This week we’re talking about letting the good times roll, the joie de vivre, jouissance (whatever that means) and how you capture the child-like enchantment of it all and store that gem in your pocket to hang on to when the world is raging outside.

The anarchist vision is the ability to see all, which enchants, but also to understand, which can destroy or at least let one see all the destruction there is. Figuring out how messed up the world is doesn’t bring a smile to the face as anarchists find themselves at odds with everything terrible. Inside and outside of this, where do you find what some might call joy? What is this anarchistic joy? How do you keep the good times rolling, a comprehensive joy, and make time for anarchist practice? Are there historical examples of anarchists and this topic? Who in the anarchist space is addressing this currently? How are they doing it well / poorly?

i was sitting outside, listening and noticing who is hanging out in the little patch of green that is the garden, when a humming bird appeared and started going around the Balm of Gilead eating nectar. i love that i live on a planet with hummingbirds.

I spent some time being really hungry before other folks schooled me on where to look for free food. schemes, food rescue, foraging, preserving food, etc. I find a lot of joy handing the game on to new hungry kids. Teaching cubs the hacks they'll use to survive the lean times gives me a lot of joy.
Discovering little dumpster scores while elbow deep in the waste generated by a donked up society is a good metaphor for the kind of joy I find, and where it's found. I also like jerking off.
