It will be held in Montevideo, from July 13 to 15, 2023. It is organized by GETIG, with the support of the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences (FHCE, of the University of the Republic, Uruguay), and is sponsored by the FHCE Department of American History; the Center for Documentation and Research on the Culture of the Left (CeDInCI), the Center for Historical Studies on Workers and the Left (CEHTI), the collective Historia Obrera, from Argentina and Brazil, the Institute of Anarchist Theory and History (ITHA).

From the Group of Studies on Work, Left and Gender (GETIG) we propose to hold a Meeting in Montevideo of historians and researchers on anarchism in mid-2023. In line with the International Congresses on Anarchism held in Buenos Aires (2016), Montevideo (2019) and Sao Paulo (2022), this meeting seeks to consolidate a field of studies in Uruguay, while enhancing the energies that have been enriching those instances. collective meetings, inviting all those who feel summoned by the objectives of the meeting to participate.
This Meeting will have the following objectives :
– Bring together historians and researchers who open debates in studies on anarchism based on research carried out or in progress, whose products are unpublished.
– Promote the preparation and discussion of various topics in different temporalities, which contain or deepen aspects of method and theoretical issues related to how to study anarchisms.
– Encourage the presentation of unpublished research papers that have cross-border approaches, study interactions, are compared or intersectional (class, gender, ethnicity, generation).
– Organize tables around the influences and exchanges of anarchisms and other experiences, and new forms and social and political practices in various geographies and moments, both past and present.
– Bringing together two worlds, the university world and that of the militancy and social, cultural and political organizations linked to the themes of the Meeting.
Formats : two possible formats for participation are proposed: presentations, which will be integrated into thematic tables, and activities, which will be presented independently. In both cases, when submitting the abstracts, the authors must indicate a title, name/s, and institutional affiliation or the organization to which they belong, if applicable.
presentations: the papers will be presented orally for 20 minutes, within the framework of a thematic table. They must account for the main ideas that guide the research, as well as the questions or working hypotheses. At this stage, the submission of a summary of between 300 and 400 words is requested, indicating the objectives and the methodology used in the investigation.
Activities: the activities include a wide variety of expressions (workshops, debate rounds, tributes to scholars and protagonists, artistic exhibitions, performances, book presentations, round tables, among other possibilities). A summary of between 400 and 1000 words must be submitted detailing the objective or objectives, the participants, the way of working, the space and other elements that are necessary to carry out the activity.
Themes: among the axes suggested to be addressed in the Meeting, the following can be mentioned: anarchism and the labor movement; anarchism, gender studies and feminism; anarchist publications and the printed world; anarchism and artistic expressions (literary, visual, film, physical); generations of anarchists, student movement and counterculture; circulations of ideas, people and publications; anarchism and the left in ideological debates on revolutions and local impacts of international events; anarchist experiences in territories; biographies and individual and collective trajectories; theories and methodologies for the study of anarchisms; physical and digital archives and repositories.
Deadline for submitting abstracts of papers and activities: March 31, 2023 .
