No Killer Tech: Anarchist Attacks on Ghost Robotics

I was excited to do more of these kinds of comics. I realized I rarely do straight up “pro anarchism” comics. But these kinds of actions are happening all over the country all the time and I don’t see them talked about much despite this aspect of struggle being really important to me. That said, it feels hard writing this as a bunch of comrades have been convicted in Texas.

I’ve got a bunch of complicated thoughts/feelings about the Prairieland stuff, how things went down, and how media depicting direction can contribute to getting folks excited-but not properly prepared. In some ways it feels like a good time to reflect on the culture of direction action in this country, especially as we see the state position itself to repress antifascists (really anyone at this point) even further. I think it’s fair to assume that things are going to get harder and more people are going to get captured.

As much as I admire the bravery of people willing to confront this government, not everyone trying to meet the moment will do it well. I’m not trying to backseat-demo these good people, but I’m not sure what kind of sense it makes to bring a long gun to a noise demo. I really want to do some writing about the pros and cons of bringing guns to actions and protests, because not everyone that can shoot can handle an escalated situation. Maybe that all sounds callous? I really do feel bad for them, outside of the snitches. I also don’t think anyone who isn’t outside with them has a right to question the risks they take.

I’m going to keep my eye out for prisoner support for them. If anyone is tapped in with that already, please let me know or drop a link.

There were a few other actions and demos that happened around getting Ghost Robotics out of UPenn, including people running up on the dean’s house. So if you’re curious to get a sense of the larger campaign, there’s a lot more to find out. Apparently Ghost Robotics has to reveal their new address when they turn in their next quarterly report…which is a fact I learned on the internet.
