TOTW: Unknown Anarchisms

Topic of the Week – This week we are peering into the unknown void to reconceptualize the history and theory of anarchism by shedding a light on unknown anarchisms. Unknown anarchisms and anarchists are way-points without a history that can be found on the obfuscated outskirts of time and space that are less traveled and mediated through culture. In many ways unknown anarchisms are the unwritten past of non-Western anarchisms, but also allows space for enigmatic uncharted Western anarchisms.

What unknown anarchisms do you know? Who are these little known anarchists on the outside of history and what intrigues you about them or makes you dislike them? Who is documenting these little known anarchisms and where do we find out more information? How do these unknown anarchisms and anarchists of yore impact today or have relationship to the present?

I'm going to have to think on this a bit and read the linked essay first. But, something in this question makes me sort of irate. I hope that if anyone has encountered such people(s) they don't speak of it here.

nvmd i take myself too seriously sometimes and that essay 0.7 / 10 at best.

at one point - "At the same time it should be remembered that there also developed an extremely contentious North / South split between the more highly developed nations of England and Germany and the less developed semi-peripheral nations of Spain, Italy and others."

then, a few sentences later - "This distorted, decontextualized and ahistoric anarchism with which we have now become familiar was constructed primarily by academics writing within the context of the core countries of the West: England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand."

What he means by "western" varies from geographical location to modes of thought, which of course are different and not entirely overlapping. seems that he means anarchism that came from Russian & Italian etc. anarchists who traveled to Asia, South America etc.

He's conflating the categories! *stomps foot*

Please stop. You tarnish the good name of anarchism with these mindless Topics. These are not anarchisms, they are, possibly, anarchies. FUCK!

The author of the cited text goes by Jaden Adams now: https://thenewcentre.org/people/jaden-adams/

It was also translated into Castilian as: Anarquismos no occidentales. Reflexiones sobre el contexto global

Anyway, I belong firmly to the "stop calling it anarchism if the people doing it don't call it anarchism" camp. You can't appreciate it, learn from it, align with it, and practice it without assimilating it into the Enlightenment Borg.

I will throw out a few "unknown anarchists" out there. These people are all relatively famous people, but are not commonly known as "anarchists" per se, although I would argue that they are:
- Diogenes of Sinope
- John Dillinger
- Wilhelm Reich
- Eugene Gendlin

Except.. none of them were anarchists.

Calling a cabbage a pie, because you really like cabbage and because both go in your tummy, doesn't make actually true.

I'm not that poster, but have you ever read The Mass Psychology of Fascism? Reich was deeply anti-authoritarian and certainly of the revolutionary socialist variety. The only critique of anarchism he had amongst much praise and congruence was "they're not organized enough!" which probably comes from his stint in KPD and the fact that he started distancing himself from political activity after that. It's entirely possible to appreciate his early work as an anti-authoritarian social psychologist without affirming the existence of Bions and Orgone energy, though one cannot deny that modern Tetra-Bric technology is a prime example of the efficacy of the orgone accumulator principle.

My nudist community is an unknown anarchism. The rise in global temperatures has been challenging and makes me question the practice because mosquitos bite my penis A LOT. There must be a better way.

Citizen Sade of the Piques Section was the Divine Marquis of Anarchy.
To this day none can compare to his majestic legacy.
The Surrealists and the Situationaists have got my back on this one, Deleuze can fuck off.
