Samuel Paradiso was brought up in the Fishponds area of east Bristol. His love of his ‘manor’ played a large part in his life, ranging from his legendary ‘border patrols’, checking no one from BS5 had sneaked into BS16, to the local history in his website ‘Boy from Fishponds’. He knew Fishponds inside out and revelled in directing me around using secret short cuts, telling me stories of its hidden heroes and showing me the concealed ‘Lido’ that once had a bar on stilts, or so they say.

We call it “Anarchist Christmas”. It’s not because of all the pageantry, or the stack of presents you leave with, or even the cake.

As the Easton-based social centre reaches its thirtieth birthday, we explore the history of the much-loved volunteer-run community space, which began life as a squat back in the mid-1990s
As the winter of 1995 drew in, a group of Bristol’s anarchist squatters started to talk about where to go next. One comrade heard that a building at 14 Robertson Road, which had previously housed the Bristol One Parent project, had been empty for over six months.

A plot of land is up for grabs at auction next week
A bid to buy Turbo Island has been lodged by a group of self-styled anarchists. A group called Seditionist Distribution has posted that it would make ideal custodians of the land in Stokes Croft and keep it 'just the way it is'.

On a typical bleak winter night on this grey prison island, during a typical poster sticking session, we hung a banner, in the Easton area, as a minimal sign of solidarity with our anarchist nihilist comrade Alfredo Cospito, who is on hunger strike since 20th October & is in conflict with the Italian fascist state after it put him in the torturous isolation prison system of 41 bis.

To the wild celebrations in the public gallery, the presiding judge rejected the application for anarchist comrade Toby Shone’s Serious Crime Prevention Order, declaring there were no grounds for it to be applied under the circumstances. Shouts of ‘Not one step back!’ were responded to with Toby shouting ‘The Revolution is inevitable!’ The result of the court means that comrade Toby will now be released at the latest in August of this year, without the extreme conditions of surveillance and control, that would have led to him not only being cut off from his comrades, but his family, friends and partner.
