Ali Touati (1953 - 2025)

From CIRA of Marseille
February 2026

Ali dropped out of high school after his sophomore year. Close to libertarian ideas, he became involved at a very young age in the anarchist group in Pré-Saint-Gervais, where he met Georges Darbois, May Picqueray, José Morato, and Montsé Turtos. In the mid-1970s, he helped support the bookstore Le Jargon Libre, founded by Helyette Bess and Gilbert Roth on Rue de la Reine-Blanche in the 13th arrondissement. He was also part of the anarchist magazine Commune libre.

Mariano Dolci, the Poet of Puppets and Freedom

From Retroguardia 3.0

Mariano Dolci belongs to the history of unique figures. The multiplicity of artistic fields inhabited by this intellectual made him a multifaceted figure, difficult for those who love to categorize. In reality, his work had a guiding star, to which Dolci devoted his entire life, an intense "poetic" activity fueled by a humanistic vision. Indeed, with "the weapons of poetry," he would soon traverse the history of our country, just as Pasolini himself, using the same tools but often in different ways, continued to undertake until his tragic end.

From Biblioteca Anarchica L'idea

On the morning of September 17, 1983, a firefight occurred in Milan with the occupants of a passenger car. The driver was killed, a companion managed to escape only to be arrested, and a woman managed to lose her trail. Investigators later claimed that the woman was Gabriella and searched everywhere for her to no avail.

Gianpiero Bottinelli (1946-2025)

From Umanità Nova

A few days after his 79th birthday, long-time partner and friend Gianpiero Bottinelli passed away at his home. After completing an apprenticeship as a commercial clerk, in 1970 he moved with his family to Lausanne to obtain a diploma in social work, a profession he would pursue until retirement. In Lausanne, he attended and participated in the activities of the International Centre for Research on Anarchism (CIRA), where he met Marie-Christine Mikhaïlo and Marianne Enckell. In 1972, he was among the organizers of the commemoration of the Anti-Authoritarian International in Saint-Imier.

Farewell, comrade! Frank Fernández

via email

Farewell, comrade!

Last Sunday, January 18, just as the sky was beginning to darken, our beloved comrade Francisco Fernández (1932-2026) passed away. Paco, to his family and close friends. Frank, in the avatars of the struggle of the anarchist camps against authoritarianism, fear, and exile. He died as a result of a pernicious infection that forced him to be rushed to the intensive care unit at a hospital in South Florida. He always maintained that Anarchy was nothing more than the constant struggle for life. Consequently, he remained in that battle until his last breath. At the age of 92, his vital organs ceased to function, which is why he was disconnected from all mechanical support and transferred to «palliative care». Incredibly, with the almost stubborn attitude that characterized him, his tremendous physical strength allowed him to fight death for 72 hours.

Petesy Burns is no more

From The Pensive Quill

For those of us interested in punk rock and its visible manifestations in Belfast, Petesy Burns was the equivalent of a totem pole: someone who represented a rich heritage but could still inspire those who interacted with him. From Good Vibrations through to the Harp Bar, the Manhattan, the Anarchy Centre and through three variations on Giros/Warzone Centre, Petesy helped to create and nurture not just punk rock in Belfast but also an alternative lifestyle and way of thinking during a time of intense conflict and ideological rigidness.

The New Issue of Germinal - Sandro Morena: The Joy of Militancy

From Germinal

There was a moment, during the evening at Carso in Corso in Monfalcone dedicated to Sandro Morena on Friday, November 7th, when I felt like the very walls were shaking. A seismic shock from pure collective vibration: it was Barrio Alto who had just started the right song, the one that makes the skin on your arms stand up and make the glasses crash on the table. A music as rough, mixed, anarchic as certain written walls: world music from the border, from the suburbs, to the struggles, to the toasts and the scars. And above all to the stories of those who never backed down.

In Memory of Peppe Tassone

From Umanità Nova

After a long illness, comrade Peppe Tassone died (November 20, 2025) at the age of 75. At a very young age, he had moved to Paris to avoid military service. There, he had come into contact with Spanish comrades from the exiled CNT and those of the ORA (Organisation Révolutionnaire Anarchiste), at their historic headquarters at 33 rue des Vignoles. With these comrades he had shared the libertarian enthusiasm that followed the 1968 riots.
