Fighting Back Against Displacement In Greece

This week, we spoke with Alex, an anarchist squatter in the Athenian neighborhood of Exarchia. They talk about repression by the New Democracy party, struggles against green washing wind turbines around rural Greece, the fires raging through the country, resistance to rape culture, fighting against the building of a metro station in Exarchia and the privatization of public spaces like Strefi Hill, police presence at Universities, anarcho-tourism and the hunger strike of anarchist prisoner Giannis Michialidas.

From Jacobin by Ian Birchall

French socialist thinker Daniel Guérin lived a life of extraordinary political commitment, from anti-fascist and anti-colonial struggles to his pioneering advocacy of gay liberation. Guérin’s writings and record should be a touchstone for the modern left.

Running Down the Walls 5K

Running Down the Walls 5K

From Anarchist Black Cross Federation

Since 1999, prisoners and supporters throughout North America have participated in the annual event known as Running Down the Walls (RDTW) often running or walking simultaneously in many cities and prisons at once. This is a 5k non-competitive run/jog/walk/roll in order to raise awareness and funds for political prisoners currently held in North American prisons. Over the years, we have raised thousands of dollars and lots of awareness around the struggle to free political prisoners. Many places will be hosting RDTW 2022 on either September 11th or 18th – stay tuned to our blog for more details from all of the locations participating this year!

The Anarchist review – an innocent sense of humour amid political unrest

From The Guardian Jermyn Street theatre, London

The first winner of the Woven Voices prize for migrant playwrights is an open-hearted play that layers a Belarusian woman’s past and present.

Leather jackets and protest banners, bootleg booze and molotov cocktails hang from above. These are the props from Dasha’s teenage years growing up in Belarus, back when she was an anarchist and, amid the fall of the Berlin Wall, change felt possible. Now middle-aged, Dasha has a chance to move to the US but, if she is to get away, she’ll have to help quell the unrest that rumbles around yet another corrupt election. Should she flee and thrive – or stay and fight?

Year After He was Identified by Antifascists, Suspect in the Murder of Portland Anarchist Arrested

Portland police announced on Thursday that they arrested 47-year-old Christopher Knipe on second-degree murder charges, for the 2019 murder of a 23-year old anarchist, Sean “Armenio” Kealiher. Kealiher, a well known anarchist and antifascist in the Portland area, was murdered in a hit and run a few blocks away from Cider Riot, a local brewery known for hosting antifascist events and the center of a violent far-Right attack on May Day of that same year. Kealiher’s murder set off a wave of far-Right harassment against his family, which was documented in the podcast series, Dying for a Fight.

Freedom for Giannis Michailidis – the fight goes on!

MANIFESTATION: Friday 5 August, 6pm, Kottbusser Tor (7pm demonstration)

Greek anarchist Giannis Michailidis has suspended his hunger strike for his release. But he is still not free. While rapists from the celebrity clique receive no punishment, FLINTA* demos against femicides – as recently in front of the Greek parliament – are currently being smashed by the police. The illegal pushbacks of refugees with many deaths at Greece's borders do not stop. And a state of emergency has been declared in Athens until October, because massive protests by the population against gentrification and against the destruction of a park because of the construction of a metro station in the middle of rebellious Exarchia are already expected.

Letter for the International Week of Solidarity w/ Anarchist Prisoners

Write an anarchist prisoner today!

Full title: UK: Letter for the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners August 23rd – 30th by Imprisoned Anarchist Toby Shone, UK

Despite being in prison, news occasionally reaches me of the many repressive operations and terrible circumstances that our comrades are confronting. That’s why I am in agreement with the proposal once again put forward by the Anarchist Black Cross for a week of solidarity at the end of August. This date is chosen to mark the State murder of anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti. We cannot give in to resignation or become complacent in these times. It is more important than ever to explain and make accessible the anarchist analysis and to put it into practice immediately.
