Identity Politics is a Four way Conflict

From Anarchist Writers by Andrew Flood

Discussions about Identity Politics (IdPol) absorbs a huge amount of energy across the political spectrum.  Discussion on the left however is often complicated and made overly hostile because they take place along the single axis of oppression which means proponents of IdPol get lumped in with Hilary Clinton while opponents get lumped in with Donald Trump.  This understandably encourages bad faith discussions that throw a lot of heat and very little light. Here we are going to argue that a much more useful exchange can happen when we instead create a plot where one axis is oppression and the second is exploitation as that puts both Trump & Clinton a good distance away from socialists. Reportback from Yiddish Anarchism conference

01/20/2019

As one of a pair of Philadelphia anarchists who traveled up to this event together last weekend, I admit that I did not know much about Yiddish anarchism as such before registering us both for this academic conference (subtitled "New Scholarship on a Forgotten Tradition"). I'm also not an academic (at least not officially). What I found there- especially as the day went on- didn't seem too very anarchist overall.

Download Episode Three

This week our challenge is to stake our position on Capitalism. Great oppositional system against human self-expression and self-worth or greatest system against? Call in and let us discuss capitalism, it's strength's, which are many, and its weaknesses. What would it take to end the reification of daily life? And to end the alienation that begins at the grocery and ends with an evening of streaming video!

Publication of 'I Want To Kill Cops Until I'm Dead'

Publication of the text 'I Wanna Kill Cops Until I'm Dead' in zine format.

Quotes from the text:

“Destroying police will no just take mass murder, it will take a great undoing, a collaborative revenge aimed at those who have perpetuated the nightmare of police officering. It will mean showing up at the doors of dawdling grandpas with parade uniforms pinned up on their walls and letting off a 9mm in their face.

“Towards the annihilation of police and the destitution of humanity.”

The plain text can be found on the anarchist library, and both English and French versions of the zine are to be downloaded here: https://fckcps.blackblogs.org/

Do Anarchists Vote in State Elections?

It obviously depends on the individual anarchist whether or not they choose to participate in the political process, but I'm writing this piece to point out that the act of voting in state elections stands in direct contradiction with anarchy. If an anarchist chooses to vote, that action has nothing to do with furthering anarchy or anarchist principles. No anarchist worth their salt would pressure other anarchists into voting for their favorite politician.

Between the Sun and the Sea: Icarus at 12th and L

Several blocks before the L & 12th Street intersection, I was already feeling that the march had run its course. At each cross street, we met a line of police, sirens blaring. A few brave souls still managed to fell some final windows on the periphery. Yet while the Bank of America windows had crashed in triumphant cacophony, these windows struck the pavement with an urgency that reflected our increasingly dire situation. We had no destination, no end goal. It felt as though we were running solely to evade police. I knew that it was time to break from the group, yet I still held a kind of separation anxiety.

A YIVO conference finds a new audience for Yiddish anarchism

NEW YORK (JTA) — To the degree that you know anything about Yiddish anarchism, it probably boils down to one name: Emma Goldman. And even then you are probably more familiar with Goldman as an immigrant firebrand and ur-“nasty woman” than for the truly radical content of her political philosophy.

Italian anarchists on the extradition of Cesare Battisti

An amnesty for the years of lead would also entail an admission — that in those years there was a widespread movement aimed at the revolutionary subversion of the dominant power structures. One which the State was so vehemently against in all its components, that it passed emergency legislation affecting the very foundations of Italy’s constitution and so-called legal civilisation.
