Review of Laursen's new book on anarchism and the state

"The operating metaphor: a clickbait title for what passes for theory"

from Anarkismo by Wayne Price

His overriding metaphor of the state is as a master operating system. Whatever its advantages in showing society as dynamic and interacting, it leads to underestimating the internal conflicts within the society, such as between capitalists and the state. Particularly, it leads to downplaying the class conflict within capitalism. The book is also weak in considering what an alternate social system might be like.

Announcing the Counter-Surveillance Resource Center

Announcing the Counter-Surveillance Resource Center, an online hub for building a culture of resistance against surveillance.

Around the world, anarchists and other rebels are subject to surveillance due to our activities. Surveillance can be carried out by state institutions or other actors – for example, private investigators, fascists, mercenaries, and law-abiding citizens. Surveillance can be intended to disrupt our activities, make arrests, secure convictions or worse.

Eric given another 6 month general correspondence restriction

from Support Eric King

Not the post we wanted to be making, but on July 7th after his communication restrictions expired SIS (special investigation services) from FCI Englewood gave him word that they were renewing the expired restrictions. For another 6 months, Eric will be unable to communicate with anyone who is not family. This will bring him to a total of a year and a half being held incommunicado from the public when this restriction ends

Call for International Week of Solidarity w/ Anarchist Prisoners

International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners

from https://solidarity.international/

2021 // 23 – 30 August

This was a tough year and more is to come. In those times we need solidarity more then ever – in daily life, our neighborhoods, our communities. But we should not forget our comrades in prison, who fight for freedom and equality. They experience hard times right now. Because the pandemic isolates people in prison even more. For that, this year we call again for the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners.

Cuba: the end of the "Revolution's" social enchantment

CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG ! ! ! !

via alasbarricadas, English translation by Anarchist News.

by Libertarian Workshop Alfredo López

Those who in the name of a future democracy or of the good functioning of the economy, come to discredit the affinities, the solidarity and the energies that sprung up in the protests, or reduce these events to “simple vandalism by libertines”, speak in name of, and with the language of the decrepit oligarchies that shamelessly raise their voice in our country once again.

Some information on the situation of Boris

Write an anarchist prisoner today!

from Attaque

On April 10, 2020 during the first confinement, fellow anarchist Boris set fire to two cell phone antennas of the four telecom operators in the Jura region, also hosting police and gendarmerie communications. To get his prison number and write to Boris, you can send an email to besakattak [at] riseup [dot] net, while his warrants in jail are still insured by Kaliméro, a solidarity fund for prisoners of the social war.

Summary of the “Chaos Gathering”

"PROKURE THAT ANARCHY LIVES"

via Contra Info

The talks were given with sincerity and trust. Everyone came to participate or to listen without detracting from the nature of the activity. We would like to receive your feedback, criticisms, proposals! We are motivated and continue to think about how to discontinue the logics of inertia; how to spread affinity, chaos and anarchy. Nothing is over, everything continues!

There Are No “Anarchist Systems” without Anarchist Fundamentals

Anarchy is the set of principles that allow you to build justified hierarchies with a hammer. Or do you not know how to use a hammer and stop children from going into traffic?

from Center for a Stateless Society by Alex Aragona

Anarchists and those learning about anarchism should prioritize the bare-bone fundamentals of anarchist thinking, and these tenets should be the starting point. Such fundamentals almost always simply and neatly refer back to how one regards hierarchies and power in general, and which ones (if any) can justify themselves. If they can’t justify their existence, they ought not exist.

TotW: Watching the Drift

Some friends and I were just talking about how in their area, the only people who are doing anything, who have any inspiration or energy, are people who are not anarchists, but are close enough not to be terrible. While these particular friends are on solid ground, the conversation reminded me of previous friends who have drifted away from anarchist activity, thought, and friends, into the morass of communism and marxism. Another friend used to say that a certain kind of anarchist would become a commie when unable to find more anarchist theory to read.
