The Furnace

Wuhan is known colloquially as one of the “four furnaces” (四大火炉) of China for its oppressively hot humid summer, shared with Chongqing, Nanjing and alternately Nanchang or Changsha, all bustling cities with long histories along or near the Yangtze river valley. Of the four, Wuhan, however, is also sprinkled with literal furnaces: the massive urban complex acts as a sort of nucleus for the steel, concrete and other construction-related industries of China, its landscape dotted with the slowly-cooling blast furnaces of the remnant state-owned iron and steel foundries, now plagued by overproduction and forced into a contentious new round of downsizing, privatization and general restructuring—itself resulting in several large strikes and protests in the last five years.

“The rulers on duty are outnumbered everywhere. Today, they can only resort to terrorism, frame-ups and manipulation via their regular channels: their armed forces, their means of (mis)communication, and their political theater…” – Words from the Chilean insurrection

We are a collective of anarchist women in struggle who join the call of the compañeras who are calling for the formation of a black anarchist bloc on March 8th.

FRR Books Podcast: On The Advantage And Disadvantage Of History For Life by Friedrich Nietzsche

What is the point of studying history? The greatest argument I have heard is that if we know history we can change the future. Nietzsche makes this argument, but this ignores the fact that history is often a weight and a burden. Despite what most liberals believe, knowledge is not always 100% positive. Sloterdijk said that "Those who first uttered the phrase that knowledge is power didn't mean only to make that equation, but to also intervene in the game of power." This is the positive of knowing history, power! But, knowledge can also be a burden. Knowledge can function as a chain which limits us. What is heavier than history?

A! for Arson.

Last night. Somewhere on the Prison Island of the United Kingdom. Several cars were burned in memory of Aragorn!. Some were SUV's, others weren't. We did it 1. only for the joy. 2. To send up blooms of smoke as signals to our affinities to a dead figher and elder.
