Given their similar spellings, a young student might be forgiven for confusing the words “anarchism” and “anachronism.” The concepts named by each term, on the other hand, are relatively easy to distinguish. But Unrest—a film based on Russian political philosopher Pyotr Kropotkin’s 1870s travels among the anarchist watchmakers of the Swiss Jura Mountains—mixes together anarchistic opposition to coercive social organization with a refusal of the dictates of time.

Text from anarchists prisoners Pola Roupa and Nikos Maziotis

From Act for Freedom Now!

We are two imprisoned political prisoners, members of the armed anarchist organization Revolutionary Struggle, which operated between 2003 and 2017. During that time, we took responsibility for 18 actions and attacks against various targets related to the political and economic regime, the state, and capital. The Revolutionary Struggle claimed responsibility for bombings and armed attacks targeting the Ministries of Finance and Labour, the Athens Stock Exchange, the Bank of Greece, the International Monetary Fund office, banks, police stations, as well as the suppression of riots and demonstrations by the riot police (MAT).

With deep sorrow, we bid farewell to Yoli

From Federación Anarquista de Rosario
April 4, 2023

It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to our dear compañera Yoli who passed away yesterday. A committed, caring, and combative anarchist militant with whom we were lucky to share years of meetings, events, marches, and other activities. A beautiful voice to sing Hijos del Pueblo and A las Barricadas. A comrade whose daily efforts brought us closer to a new world.

Call for actions in solidarity with G. Michailidis

From Act for Freedom Now!

The anarchist comrade and prisoner of the Greek prisons, Giannis Michailidis, is on a new hunger strike since 12.05.2023. Exactly one year ago, on May 25, 2022, he had announced the start of another hunger strike demanding his release, which after 68 days of hard strike, last July, he decided to end, with his health condition reaching a critical point, awaiting the fulfilment of the commitments of senior judges for meeting his demands.

The Anarchists of Electric Yerevan

The Anarchists of Electric Yerevan

From Organise!, Armenia

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, anarchism once again became a political force in Armenia. As anti-authoritarians stepped out into a new environment of political openness, things once again began to look brighter. This changed in 2008, when the right-wing authoritarian government of Serzh Sargsyan rose to power, crushing any dissent with an iron fist. As social services were cut to pieces and the state made political opposition increasingly unviable, anarchists gradually rebuilt their strength. Before Sargsyan's dictatorship was finally brought down in revolution, the Armenian people were already rising up in protest against him, such as it was when his government made the decision to increase electricity prices to unmanageable levels.

Anarchists at the back of history?

Anarchists at the back of history?

From Pramen

For many years the anarchist movement in Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine has participated in major political events with varying degrees of success. Maidan in Ukraine, protests against slavery and 2020 in Belarus, actions in Russia – wherever the struggle against authoritarianism began, anarchists were at the forefront. The same situation developed when Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Many comrades from various parts of the former Soviet Union took up arms to fight against Putin’s inhumane regime. Today there are more than a hundred anarchists and anti-fascists fighting in Ukraine, scattered across different units and sections of the front. Some have been able to create their own small fighting group of comrades and friends, while others fight on their own in the ranks of the ZSU.

June 11 Statement from Eric King

From Mongoose Distro

Greetings comrades. Let me tell you about this prison, the federal supermax ADX [in Florence, Colorado]. In this joint there are different levels and units with varying levels of physical isolation and communication, but there are things we all experience. Everyone is locked down at least 21 hours a day, at max 24. When you have inside rec you are by yourself in a room without a pull up bar. Outside rec cages are 8 x 10 foot dog kennels surrounded by concrete walls and a chain link roof — a cage within a cage. Unless you are in the pre-release unit (K-A) or long-term elder unit (K-B), you will never be in the same room as another person. And even in those units you only come around your ‘group’ — which is one to four other people — for inside rec. The other 22 ½ hours are in your cell by yourself. I have been in C-unit, the discipline unit and K-A; there is one other person in my group.
