Now Isn't the Time to Shut Up About NATO

Responding to Freedom News

The Russo-Ukrainian War that started in February has now cost as many as 15,000 Russian and Ukrainian lives, if not more, in addition to tens of thousands maimed and millions displaced. As anarchists in Australia, we oppose this imperialistic war just as we oppose all imperialist wars. In the wars of the ruling classes, it is the workers that are thrown into the meat grinder. By the same token we oppose the Russian state just as we oppose all states, which exist only to ensure the reproduction of the capitalist system and the ongoing exploitation of workers across the globe.Opposition to one set of capitalists and imperialist invaders does not mean support for another. Our solidarity is with the Ukrainian and Russian workers being sent to the slaughter, not the states that facilitate that very slaughter.

How Do We Stop Another Religious Discrimination Bill?

from Anarchist Communists Meanjin By John David Card

Anarchist-Communists Meanjin urges readers to consider that permanent solutions will require a radical reapproach to our idea of politics and a departure from the dead-end of electoralism. No matter how galling the political outlook feels right now or after the upcoming election, just remember that the potential for change lies squarely with everyday, working-class people who care about these sorts of issues. In the short term, we can make sure that the Religious Discrimination Bill remains dead and buried by hitting the streets and showing our strength. Public demonstrations are planned against the stalled bill across the country over the next month. In Brisbane, the next rally is scheduled for March 12th, at 1pm, in King George Square. We’ll see you there.

Discussing the Ukraine Conflict

Imperialist tension has continued to rise in Eastern Europe as Russia and NATO appear determined to compete for hegemony in Ukraine. Despite assurances from the Ukrainian government that conflict is unlikely, western media has continuously beat the drums of war in order to ensure their citizens are primed for another proxy war should Russia decide to invade.

J22: International Day of Solidarity with Transgender Prisoners

Write an anarchist prisoner today!

from Anarchist Communists Meanjin by Black Freighter

CW: Article discusses distressing topics.

January 22 marks the seventh International Day of Solidarity with Transgender Prisoners. Initially called by Marius Mason, a transgender anarchist prisoner incarcerated for his environmental direct action with the Earth Liberation Front, J22 encourages us to acknowledge the experiences of trans and other sex and gender-minority prisoners. Against a system committed to erasing the existence of incarcerated trans people, we can voice our solidarity and demonstrate our commitment to the abolition of prisons. Prisons, as Angela Davis notes, “do not disappear problems, they disappear human beings.”

Why Everything Has Gone Wrong with COVID 19

Anarcho-Handwavium: the cure for COVID, capitalism, the state, you name it.

Examining the Role of Capitalism and the State in the Current Crisis

This crisis, and the pandemic overall, was not inevitable or unavoidable. This outcome was entirely and grimly predictable. The COVID 19 crisis is a crisis born of the harmful, destructive and illogical forces of capitalism and the state, and reminds us yet again of the dire pressing need for revolution and anarchist socialism.

Spotters Guide to Anarchism in Australia and Aotearoa

from Anarchist Communists Meanjin

Always opposed to capitalism and the state, anarchist politics have been growing in popularity during a new global progressive wave. However, they still remain the minority within the minority that is the far left. Just what are our black-clad bomb throwers, crusty bin punks and stale old syndicalists up to these days? Well, they’re pretty busy globally. But we’re going to focus on Oceania.

65 Years of Revolution

for an anarchism that calls itself specific, it sounds pretty generic

From the 27th to the 29th of October the Federación Anarquista uruguaya – FAU celebrated its 65th anniversary of its founding. The FAU developed the theory of Especifismo, a strategy for anarchist communist organising that strongly influences Anarchist Communists Meanjin. During its existence it has played a significant role in union organising, international political discourse and resistance to dictatorship. To introduce this organisation, its history and ideas to an Australian audience I have written this article.

Our Position On Elections

While c4ss takes a week off, here's some more basic-ass ancom takes in place of your basic-ass mutualist takes.

from Anarchist Communists Meanjin

Anarchists are often characterized as being opposed to elections or the vote. Yet anyone that has spent any time in an anarchist or anarchist inspired organisation will tell you that voting is our favorite pastime, one which we take almost any opportunity to undertake. Rather than being opposed to elections we would love nothing more than to see them expanded throughout all levels of society. In fact anarchists should be considered as the most strident proponents of elections and the vote.

Solidarity with Køpiplatz! Køpi Bleibt!

Meanjin (Brisbane) Australia: Solidarity with Køpiplatz! Køpi Bleibt!

We in Anarchist-Communists Meanjin voice our solidarity with Køpiplatz. Like Berlin, Meanjin is also subject to soaring rent prices and gentrification. Districts once overflowing with creative energy have given way to canyons of empty streets polluted with American trash food joints and corporate bars. As we have previously noted, “as long as the working class lacks access to and communal control of their own sustainable housing the crisis will remain, sometimes at a low point and at other times surging upwards. As long as a landlord class remains, homelessness will continue, renters will be exploited and housing will remain precarious.
