Philly’s forgotten history as a hub of anarchism with a thriving radical Yiddish press

From The Conversation

On a late summer day in 1906, a small group of newly arrived Jewish immigrants in Philadelphia took a streetcar across town to Fairmount Park. Several miles from the cramped row houses and oppressive sweatshops of the immigrant quarter of South Philly, the neighborhood now known as Queen Village, they enjoyed a sunny picnic.

Operation Scripta Scelera – absolution of the anarchists accused in the trial of Massa

From Dark Nights

Original title: "Italy: Operation Scripta Scelera – absolution of the anarchists accused in the trial of Massa for the publication of ‘Bezmotivny’. An 8 month sentence for offense to the honour or prestige of the president of the republic"

“I'm Doing it for the Sake of Spreading Ideas:” An Interview with Jon Active

From Rupture Press

Editorial Note: Continuing in the trajectory of interviewing legends from last week, we turn to “Jon Active.” Jon started Active Distribution, as discussed below, in the late 1980s and with collaborators continues into the present. Based in the UK, Active Distribution has remained a staple in distributing anarchist zines, pamphlets and books and has done well to make English language material available in Europe.

anarchist publication Rumoer #8 is here

The day you didn’t expect to come no more. A fresh rumoer came out (#8 but actually 10!) of the printer. Critical, cheeky, sweet, punk and a bit literate as well as illiterate, we embrace our little mistakes.

The good news is that we have lots of sabotage and attacks to write about, from the whole wide world but also from nearby. Also, articles on war, militarism, refusing service. Our chemistry teacher would be proud at our texts on deepsea mining and another one on uranium and anti-nuclear struggle.

Reorientation: Some Changes to North Shore Counter-Info

From North Shore Counter-Info

We started North Shore Counter-Info in 2018 with the intention of encouraging written reflection, principled debate and public communication for anarchists across so-called southern ontario. In the context of a growing dependence on corporate social media platforms, we wanted (and still want) to provide an anonymous alternative that prioritizes thoughtful and dangerous contributions over throwaway takes and media jargon.

Abolition Media Response to Kolektiva Censorship

From Abolition Media

As the genocidal campaign against Palestinians continues, so have the outcries from supposed anarchists in the West against any expression of solidarity with the Palestinian Resistance. Recently, a post by the Kolektiva moderation team called anarchists who seek to learn from the Palestinian Resistance “deeply delusional” and “dripping with performative machismo.” While our platform was not directly referenced, the same post linked to an article called “Abolition Media’s Authoritarian Entryism,” a hit piece on our media site. We therefore find it necessary to make our intentions clear and to investigate exactly why a site claiming to be anarchist would slander coverage of the Resistance, even if our accusers are too cowardly to mention us by name.

Italy: Alfredo Cospito and 11 Other Anarchists Acquitted

From Abolition Media
The investigating judge’s decision came in the afternoon.

There is no place to proceed for Alfredo Cospito and 11 other anarchists. This is what the judge of Perugia, Angela Avila, decided today, January 15, in the afternoon, at the end of the discussion during the preliminary hearing. Cospito and Michele Fabiani from Spoleto, together with the other 10, were charged with various charges of apology and incitement to subversion and of some episodes of damage. In November 2021, the Perugia ROS had applied six precautionary measures against as many exponents of the anarchist sector. The charges were related to the publication of a newspaper considered clandestine, Vetriolo.

Going Forward: An Update from the Editors

From It's Going Down

A week ago, It’s Going Down published a statement announcing that we were putting this project on hiatus after ten years. Tired and burned out, we were gambling our absence wouldn’t be missed. In short, the response from readers, friends, and long time collaborators was overwhelming and clear: many feel this project is important and should continue. We appreciate all of the incredibly kind words and those who took the time to reach out to us.
