Welcome to SHH! THIS IS A LIBRARY! forum. This is a place to have engaging conversations about texts on The Anarchist Library.
We’re a small group of librarians from The Anarchist Library project along with other participants who would like to encourage critical thought, reflection, and discussion of anarchist texts and ideas. Our aim is to provide discussion forums for thoughtful discourse of the most beautiful idea.

I’ve been thinking recently about the various themes that I’ve written about since starting this regular column for Freedom in 2016. I try really hard not to repeat myself too much but history has a way of making that pretty tough. These are the themes I think will recur time and again in 2022.

Politics As Religion, Ressentiment and Identitarianism: Finding the Ekumen with Rhyd Wildermuth
Finding The Ekumen gets its name from Ursula K. Le Guin's space utopia, effectively an anarchist version of Star Trek's far more militant United Federation of Planets. So if we are going to have a series of discussions beyond traditional politics, we should begin with a discussion of what politics is, what it isn't and where it might be that you come in. I can think of no one better than Rhyd for that chat, so here it is!
The purpose of this zine is to revisit a particularly influential piece of contemporary anarchist and nihilist writing in Blessed is the Flame by Serafinski, with a heavy focus on history, and apply some of the concepts explored to the uprisings of 2020.

Antipolitics: From New Anarchisms to the Alt-Right
In recent years, I have been disappointed to see many anarchists take a categorically anti-nudity position with respect to a very broad variety of situations and settings. This has often been as an extension of their “sexual politics” – an imperfect term, to be sure, but which I mean the sum of their ideas about sexuality, which are often (not always) received ideas, i.e. dogma or ideology.
Individualists, Iconoclasts, and Nihilists against Fascism Against Black Fascism: Part 1
By Renzo Connors
“And this is where the anarchist reaction diverges from the simple reaction. As anarchist, we take things further. We are radical, rebellious, iconoclastic, nihilistic individuals who’s only goal is the destruction of which destroys us. Capitalism, White Supremacy, Patriarchy, all of these apparatuses of domination that aim to control us, that expect us to submit. They are not met by a simple proclamation of againstness but a swift and decisive action that not only proclaims but shocks those in power. From the simple smashing of windows to the placement of a bomb or the robbing of the bank our actions are heard and felt rather than ignored and treated as everyday life.” - Armeanio Lewis, Why Break Windows

What follows is a series of anti-political arguments against the police, politics y más.
Politics itself is the policing of freedom & unfreedom. Freedom, as we are taught in American schools, is not freedom itself.
It is a doctored variation sold to us. It helps maintain the assumption that the perpetuation of American politics is itself tied to perpetuation of freedom. (“Vote or don’t complain!”)
Nothing could be further from the truth.
