Intro text for “Gender oppression, resistance to patriarchy, and anarcha-queer feminism”

From Balkan Anarchist Bookfair

We find it very important and a positive turn that in the last few BABs the topic of anarcho-queer-feminism is one of the main topics of the festival. This is because we perceive gender, body, sexuality not as one time events and as single, discrete categories discussed in the margins (of events, assemblies), but as processes and fields that permeate and are permeated by the multiple networks of historical, social, linguistic correlations and that construct a certain reality.

Input of Libertatia squat on the topic of squats/social centers at BAB2025

From Balkan Anarchist Bookfair

A few words about Libertatia squat

Libertatia squat, the neoclassical listed building at the junction of Sarandaporou and Stratou streets in Thessaloniki, has been squatted since May 2008. In these 16 years it has been a hospitable place not only for those in need of housing but also for the ongoing struggle against the state, capital, capitalism and fascism.

2025 Balkan Anarchist Bookfair - Thessaloniki, May 15-18

From Balkan Anarchist Bookfair 2025

OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

On the 7th of July 2024, during the general assembly of the participants of the Balkan Anarchist Bookfair in Pristina, there was a proposal that the next BAB take place in Thessaloniki. The collectives and individuals from Thessaloniki who were present asked for ten days to think about it and respond. After a meeting of the Thessaloniki collectives that have worked together within the BAB framework and the Balkan Solidarity network, the answer was yes: The 17th Balkan Anarchist Bookfair will take place in Thessaloniki, from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 May 2025. It was also decided that the organizing assembly would be formed after a call to all collectives of Thessaloniki, but also to collectives from other cities (Athens, Ioannina) that have also worked together within the BAB and the Balkan Solidarity network.

Call for Participation: Balkan Anarchist Bookfair 2024

With great excitement we announce that, for the first time ever, the 16th edition of Balkan Anarchist Bookfair (BAB) will be held in Prishtina, Kosova, from 5th – 7th of July 2024. BAB is not merely a platform to promote books, but also place to exchange information and ideas, create new initiatives, and strengthen organizations. As such, for more than 20 years, it stands as a testament to our collective commitment to solidarity, resistance, and collaboration across the artificial borders of Balkans.

Balkan Anarchist Bookfair, Ljubljana 2023: a review

From EMRAWI

On the weekend from 7th to 9th of July the bookfair took place in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana. In the context of the Balkans, it is inevitable to speak about war and its devastating consequences. It would have been chance to listen to experiences from groups and individuals from this geographical and cultural space, extrapolate an analysis to contemporary events and push an open debate. This chance has been not only missed, but was actively sabotaged by the organising committee.
