The Salish Sea Anarcha Network

From liberté ouvrière

Over the past year there has been something of a revival of anarcho-syndicalist theory and practice in so-called Canada... Closer to home, for me, has been the formation of the Salish Sea Anarcha Network (SSAN), which has brought together syndicalists across unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh (which make up the city of Vancouver); Katzie, Kwantlen and Semiahma (Surrey); and the Kwikwetlem Nations (Coquitlam) — which together make up so-called Metro Vancouver — with connections on Vancouver Island.

This year felt like an immense success to us. In a little under 2 months, many groups and individuals came together with creative discussions, parties, workshops, film screenings, and more. These events were held at the many anarchist spaces around the city, bringing people together and creating the connections that make our movements so vibrant.

Yintah film review

From BC Counter Info

Original title: "Yintah film review: Anarchists in the blind spot, or the necessity to write our own histories"

Yintah is the latest installment of a long tradition of indigenous documentaries speaking truth to power against colonial violence in so-called Canada. The story told is of an anti-pipeline struggle to protect the richness of life that the Wedzin kwa river offers, a decade long fight that involved not only the Wet’suwet’en peoples of northern British-Columbia, but also hundreds of dedicated non-indigenous comrades who fought valiantly alongside them. Except the film chose to cast them aside.

Change the World: Have Fun, be Creative

From Fifth Estate, # 415, Summer 2024
by Norman Nawrocki

Imagine if more people believed in the power and the magic of collective creativity, what a crazy wonderful new anarchist world we could build. Under capitalism, any form of creativity is usually seen as an individual pursuit, the domain of the rich, the elite and artistes. It’s something to be commodified, re-packaged, and sold back to others as pop culture to be consumed.

It is a summer barbecue for anarchists in Toronto, Ontario, and beyond. Everyone is welcome to come together enjoy some free food, read some radical lit and share ideas. Toronto needs a flourishing anarchist scene, and we hope to rekindle the destruction of hierarchy in this city overrun with liberals. Whether you are an anarchist, anarcho-curious, left-leaning, or sympathetic, there is a place for you here.
